The features that matter on a Tachyon server follow the way TachyonsCE stores its universe and exposes its settings.
Universe width, star density, hyperspace time, fire and oxygen balance, ship repair price and dozens more values sit in config.cfg with comments explaining each one. Edit in the file manager and restart.
Ships, NPCs, universe sectors and player records are stored in the DataBase folder. Automatic backups protect it, and a manual copy before a wipe is your ticket back to the old universe.
By default the server saves every 300 seconds and unloads a sector 120 seconds after its last player leaves. Both values can be tuned to fit how your crew plays.
The TachyonsCE server runs on Java and simulates ship systems at 40 ticks per second. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed keeps that loop smooth during crowded firefights.
Every plan includes free DDoS protection and unlimited traffic, so your crew is not knocked offline by attack traffic halfway through a boarding operation.
Java versions, ports or mismatched client and server builds giving you grief? Tickets, Discord, WhatsApp, calls and live chat are answered day and night.
TheCrewHost Tachyon server hosting starts at ₺240.00 per month ($6.00) and runs the standalone Java server from the TachyonsCE project. TachyonsCE is the community edition of Tachyons: Battles Across the Galaxy, where you and your friends crew a spaceship through a randomly generated galaxy fighting pirates and aliens; most players describe it as multiplayer FTL. The server runs in our İstanbul datacenter on a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe storage, giving crews in Türkiye low latency. You can edit every value in config.cfg, from universe size to oxygen drain, and keep the ships and sectors in the DataBase folder safe with automatic backups.
Tachyon on our list is the multiplayer server for TachyonsCE, the community edition of Tachyons: Battles Across the Galaxy. You and your friends crew a single spaceship: one handles weapons, another routes power to shields and engines, someone else fights fires and patches hull breaches. In a randomly generated galaxy you clash with pirates, aliens and other ships, and you can board enemy vessels and take them over. The crew can stay on one ship or split across several and form a fleet.
The game takes the ship management of FTL: Faster Than Light into a multiplayer, persistent universe, which is why the community often calls it multiplayer FTL. The server keeps the universe, sectors, ships and NPCs persistent, so the galaxy picks up where it left off no matter who logs in or out.
One thing worth knowing: according to the TachyonsCE project's own description, the developers have folded most community features into the official game, and the CE build now lags behind the official release. Our server runs the CE build; if you are looking for the official release's server, check with our support team before ordering.
Tachyon is a light Java server, and the 4 GB on our Bronze plan is more than enough for a crew of friends. What drives memory use is how many sectors are loaded at once. The server only keeps sectors with players in them in memory, and unloads an empty sector after LEVEL_TIMEOUT_TIME has passed, saving it first. When the whole crew travels on one ship, one sector is active; when a fleet splits across systems, each one is simulated separately.
On the CPU side, ship systems, fires, oxygen flow and projectiles are calculated at 40 ticks per second. When lots of crew and NPCs gather in one sector, the server sends position updates less often once the crowd passes the OVERCROWDED_LEVEL_SIZE threshold, 30 by default, to keep lag down. That is exactly why single-core speed matters.
If you raise UNIVERSE_WIDTH and UNIVERSE_HEIGHT well beyond the default 100 and build a huge universe, the database and disk usage grow, but even that will not strain the middle plans. Top plans like Emerald and Xtreme are clearly more than this game needs; the extra cores and memory would go unused.
TachyonsCE's greatest strength is that nearly all of the game balance lives in a commented config.cfg file. Each line has a note above it explaining what it does; to change something, stop the server, edit the file and start it again. Leave SERVER_PORT alone, since the panel manages it for you.
The universe itself is defined by UNIVERSE_WIDTH, UNIVERSE_HEIGHT, LEVEL_SIZE and STAR_DENSITY. Travel pace comes from HYPERSPACE_TIME, HYPER_JUMP_PREP_TIME and JUMP_RATIO; lower JUMP_RATIO and ships jump further. Survival difficulty hides in the fire and oxygen values: lines like FIRE_HEALTH, HEAT_TO_START_FIRE and OXYGEN_CONSUMED_BY_BREACH decide how brutal ship emergencies get. RESPAWN_TIME, SHIP_REPAIR_PRICE and DEFAULT_EVENT_LEVEL are easy levers for softening the game for new crews.
hazards.cfg defines dangerous sectors, while npc_races.cfg and player_races.cfg define races. One quirk to note: the line that sets evasion per power point in engines is spelled VEASION_PER_POWER. As the comment in the file admits, it is a typo, but the server only accepts the value spelled that way, so do not correct it.
All of a Tachyon server's persistent data lives in the DataBase folder: the ships, NPCs, Universe and Players subfolders plus the vars.dat file. To restart the universe from scratch, stop the server, take a backup first, then delete those four folders and vars.dat. The cleandb.bat script that ships with the project does exactly that, but it is a Windows script; on your server you do the same by hand in the file manager.
If you run a public server, check the ALLOW_SERVER_RESET line in config.cfg without fail. It defaults to 1, which gives players the option to reset the server from the in-game menu. Among friends that can be handy; on a server strangers join, it means weeks of fleet-building can vanish with one click. Setting it to 0 is the single most important safeguard for a community server.
AUTOSAVE_TIME defaults to 300 seconds, so an unexpected shutdown loses a few minutes of progress at most. You can shorten it, but very frequent saves put needless load on the disk in large universes. Always stop the server from the panel; killing the process outright can lose changes made since the last save.
Players open the TachyonsCE client and connect by entering your server's IP address and the port shown in your panel. The server's default port is 30303, but if yours is different, the panel writes it into config.cfg for you; always give players the port from the panel.
Client and server check each other's version and refuse the connection if they do not match. So players need to download the client for the same TachyonsCE version your server runs, from the project's GitHub releases page. The current CE client comes with a Windows launcher and bundled Java, so players do not have to install Java separately.
Before rounding up the crew, confirm in the console that the server started without errors, then pin the address, port and client version to one Discord message. When a newcomer asks which client to grab, the answer is already there. As the crew grows, buying a second ship and forming a fleet instead of squeezing onto one hull opens up some of Tachyon's best moments.
TachyonsCE is a light Java server. Unless you plan a massive universe or dozens of simultaneous players, a bigger plan will not add anything.
Once payment clears, the TachyonsCE server files are installed automatically. Follow the first universe build from the console at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.
Stop the server and adjust universe size, hyperspace pace, fire and oxygen values to suit your crew. Do not touch SERVER_PORT; the panel manages it.
The default lets players reset the universe from inside the game. Turning it off on a server strangers can join keeps weeks of work from disappearing in one click.
Note which TachyonsCE version your server runs and have players download the same client build from GitHub; mismatched versions are refused.
Pin the panel IP and port in Discord. Players enter the address in the client, join the ship and power up the engines for the first hyperspace jump.
