The tools long-running Soldat community servers rely on to stay busy for years.
The [GAME] section holds respawn times, score limits, friendly fire and bonuses; [NETWORK] holds Port, Max_Players, Game_Password, Admin_Password and Server_Name.
mapslist.txt sets the rotation; in game, /addmap, /delmap and /nextmap edit it on the fly, and /loadlist swaps to a different list file.
Random_Bots settings and /addbot keep an empty server alive, and Difficulty in the [BOTS] section ranges from 300 for clumsy bots to 10 for near-impossible ones.
Log in with /adminlog and your admin password, then use /kick, /ban, /map, /restart and /gamemode; remote.txt keeps the IP list for remote admins.
Soldat's physics runs at 60 ticks per second and the server needs very little. The Ryzen 9 9950X's single-core speed keeps the loop steady even in 32-player chaos.
Competitive clan servers can become targets. Free DDoS protection on every plan filters attack traffic before it reaches the game.
Soldat server hosting at TheCrewHost puts the classic 2D shooter's dedicated server on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in İstanbul from ₺240.00 (about $6.00) per month. Michał Marcinkowski's Soldat went free on Steam in 2020 as an improved 1.7.1, so anyone can join your server at no cost. The server reads soldat.ini for rules and network settings, mapslist.txt for its rotation and weapons.ini for weapon balance. It runs all seven classic modes from Deathmatch to Hold the Flag, fills empty slots with bots, and is so light that our smallest plan comfortably covers a 32-player server.
Soldat is a fast, side-view multiplayer action game inspired by Liero, Worms, Quake and Counter-Strike. Michał 'MM' Marcinkowski built it in the early 2000s, and with ragdoll physics, jet-boot flight and 18 military weapons it quickly grew its own clan culture. In 2020 it arrived on Steam for free as an improved 1.7.1, the same year the 1.8 codebase went open source as opensoldat, and in 2022 stewardship of the game passed to a new team.
For a server owner, that means something simple: you are building a permanent home for a game that costs players nothing and runs on almost any PC. The Steam version offers P2P connections and join codes for local games hosted on a player's own machine, but a CTF server that stays up around the clock, clan matches or an Infiltration night need a dedicated server.
Do not confuse it with Soldat 2. Soldat 2 is a separate, paid, Unity-based sequel with a completely different server and configuration. If your community plays the classic game, this page is the right one; if they play Soldat 2, pick our Soldat 2 product instead.
Soldat ships with seven classic modes, selected by GameStyle in soldat.ini with values from 0 to 6: Deathmatch, Pointmatch, Teammatch, Capture the Flag, Rambomatch, Infiltration and Hold the Flag. In game, /gamemode switches modes with the same numbers. Each mode has its own limit line, such as Deathmatch_Limit, Capture_Limit or Infiltration_Limit, and Time_Limit sets the match length in minutes.
The settings that shape gameplay live in the same file. Respawn_Time is written in ticks, where 60 ticks equal one second, and WaveRespawn_Time controls wave respawns in team modes. Friendly_Fire toggles team damage, Bonus_Frequency sets how often power-ups appear and Max_Grenades caps grenades. Realistic_Mode and Survival_Mode give the game a completely different rhythm, and the Weapon_1 to Weapon_14 lines let you disable individual guns.
Vote_Percent sets the share of players needed to pass a vote, and Balance_Teams enforces even teams. Deeper tuning, such as weapon damage and fire rate, lives in weapons.ini and is reloaded with /loadwep after you edit it.
Very little. Soldat was written for early-2000s hardware, and by today's standards its dedicated server barely uses any resources. The Bronze plan's 4 GB is more than enough even for a server packed with 32 players, the most the game allows.
The server's work runs on a single core: sixty times a second it resolves every soldier's movement, bullets, bouncing grenades and ragdolls. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high single-core speed carries that loop easily, and a bigger plan adds nothing to that speed.
Two things can add load: bots and ScriptCore scripts. Many bots add AI work for each one, and complex scripts run on every event. Even so, they will not strain Bronze on a typical server. Silver only makes sense for a special server running lots of heavy scripts, and Gold and above are completely unnecessary for Soldat, which the plan guide says plainly.
The key to administration is Admin_Password in the [NETWORK] section of soldat.ini; it is case-sensitive and used for both in-game and remote administration. Open the command line in game with the / key and type /adminlog followed by your password to become an admin. From there, /kick and /ban remove players, /banip and /unban work by IP, /tempban issues timed bans, and /map, /nextmap and /restart steer the match flow. /loadcon rereads soldat.ini without shutting the server down.
Files in the server folder are part of the job too: banned.txt holds bans, remote.txt lists IPs granted remote admin access, and gamestat.txt in the logs folder records match statistics. Remote admin tools connect over TCP on the game port using the admin password, and /adm and /admip add people to the remote admin list.
For more, Soldat supports ScriptCore: Pascal scripts go into the server's scripts folder, each in its own subfolder. Custom game rules, stats systems and automated moderation are usually built this way.
Most players find servers in the in-game list. It sorts by player count and then by ping, and it shows a country flag next to each server, so yours in İstanbul appears under the Turkish flag. If you set Game_Password, players enter it when joining, and anyone who prefers to skip the list can connect directly with the IP and port.
Soldat's port layout is a little different from most games, and it helps to know it. Game traffic uses the game port over UDP, remote administration runs over TCP on the same port number, and file transfers use a TCP port 10 above the game port; the defaults are 23073 and 23083. If you run custom maps with Allow_Download on, players fetch missing maps, scenery and textures through that file port, and downloads fail if the second port is not allocated to your server, in which case contact our support team.
Because the game is free, bringing in someone new is easy: they download Soldat on Steam and find your server's name in the list.
Soldat is so light that Bronze is more than enough, even for a full 32-player server with a few bots.
Once payment clears, the Soldat dedicated server installs itself, and the gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net console shows it starting up.
Set Server_Name, Admin_Password, Game_Password and Max_Players, choose the default mode with GameStyle and the match length with Time_Limit.
List your rotation in mapslist.txt, upload custom maps over SFTP and tune Random_Bots for the quiet hours.
Log in with /adminlog in game, test your settings and share the server name, or its IP and port, with your clan.
