Why TheCrewHost for Rising World Java Legacy?

What matters when you keep a finished-for-good Java version running for a community that still loves it.

The legacy branch, preinstalled

This product installs the Java legacy build of the Rising World dedicated server rather than the Unity one, so your players' Java clients match the server.

The JVM on fast cores

The Java server generates terrain chunks and runs its game loop on the JVM. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock keeps chunk generation and busy builds responsive.

Java-era plugins

Plugins written for the Java edition's Plugin API still load on the legacy server. Upload them over SFTP; plugins built for the new Unity API are not a substitute.

RCON remote console

rcon_enabled and rcon_password in server.properties open a remote console, so admins can run the server without being in game.

Room for old megabuilds

Years-old worlds with sprawling cities take space; NVMe storage keeps loading and saving quick as explored chunks pile up.

A protected legacy community

Free DDoS protection covers every plan, so a small, long-running community is not knocked offline by one angry visitor.

Rising World Java Legacy hosting at TheCrewHost runs the original Java edition's dedicated server on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in İstanbul from ₺345.00 (about $8.63) per month. On 31 January 2025, JIW-Games made the Unity rebuild the default Rising World, and the Java edition became an archived legacy version. It is still playable, and its worlds are stored separately from Unity ones, so a legacy server is how established communities keep their towns, castles and Java plugins alive. The server runs as server.jar on a Java runtime, and the Java heap limit is its single most important memory setting.

What is the Rising World Java Legacy version?

Rising World is JIW-Games' voxel-based open-world sandbox, and it was first built in Java on jMonkeyEngine. The Java edition entered alpha in 2014, reached Steam that December and kept receiving new features until 2019. Technical limits led the team to rewrite the game in Unity; that version entered Early Access in December 2020 and, on 31 January 2025, replaced the Java edition as the default Rising World on Steam.

The Java edition was archived rather than removed. On Steam you can launch risingworldx64.exe by hand from the _Java Version subfolder inside the Rising World install directory, or switch to the java - Legacy Version beta branch. The developer notes that the beta branch replaces the new version, and recommends launching the Java edition from the folder if you want to keep both.

The key detail for server owners: Java-edition worlds and blueprints are stored separately and do not affect the new version. A world your community spent years building in Java does not move over to a Unity server on its own. If your players want to keep living in that world, a Java Legacy server is where it belongs.

Java Legacy or Unity: which server should you pick?

Your players' client decides it, because the two versions cannot connect to each other. A Java client will not see a Unity server, and a Unity client will not see a Java one.

Choose Java Legacy if you have a Java-edition world you are not willing to lose, if your community depends on plugins written for the Java edition's Plugin API, or if your players simply prefer the classic version's look and feel. Since the legacy version no longer receives new content, there is also little risk of an update disturbing a setup that works.

Choose the Unity version if you are starting a community from scratch, want active development and new content, or plan to use plugins written for the new Plugin API. The servers differ technically as well. The Java Legacy server runs as server.jar in a Java runtime and uses a consecutive block of game ports starting at 4255, plus 4254 for queries and 4253 for RCON. The Unity server is a native application that needs a single game port and a query port one below it. If you are unsure, tell our support team about your community and we will help you pick.

How much RAM does a Java Legacy server need?

On the Java server, memory is used through the heap limit given to the JVM, and demand grows with the number of world chunks held in memory at once. As players spread to different corners of the map, the chunks around each of them stay loaded, and big cities built over the years carry more data every time they load.

Plans for this product start at Silver. 6 GB suits a medium-sized world explored by a few friends. For 8 to 16 players who roam widely, Gold is more comfortable. Servers with many Java plugins or enormous cities fit Platinum, and a long-running, busy community makes sense on Diamond.

Emerald and Xtreme sit above what a Java Legacy server realistically needs. A single JVM process gains little from extra cores, and an oversized heap can lengthen garbage-collection pauses. Sizing memory to actual demand gives you a server that is both more efficient and more stable, and you can always upgrade if it proves too small.

How do you configure and run the legacy server?

Settings live in server.properties in the server folder, and in the Java edition the keys are lowercase. server_password locks the server behind a password, and the rcon_enabled and rcon_password pair opens the remote console. Edit the file in the panel's file manager or over SFTP, then restart the server to apply changes.

If you are bringing an existing Java world, upload its world folder over SFTP and confirm in the console that the server loads it; if you are unsure where it belongs, our support team will help you place it. Java-era plugins are uploaded over SFTP as well. They were written against the Java edition's Plugin API, so keep them apart from plugins aimed at the new Unity API; the official forum shares the two in separate sections.

Because the legacy version gets no new content, most administration is about preserving what works: regular backups, a manual copy before any plugin change and a sensible player cap. Once the console shows the server has finished starting, players can connect.

How do players connect to a Java Legacy server?

Players first need to run the Java edition; today's default Steam version cannot connect. There are two ways: launch risingworldx64.exe from the _Java Version folder in the Rising World install directory, or switch to the java - Legacy Version beta branch in the game's Steam properties. The second option replaces the new version, so suggest the folder method to friends who also play the Unity edition.

Once the Java client is running, your server appears in the multiplayer server list, and anyone who cannot find it there can connect directly with the IP and port shown in your panel. If you set server_password, players are asked for it when they join.

With the server in İstanbul, players connecting from Türkiye feel less delay while placing blocks and digging. Pinning a short connection guide in your Discord helps enormously, especially for veterans returning to the world after a few years away.

How to Set Up a Rising World Java Legacy Server

  1. 1

    Start with Silver or Gold

Silver suits a medium world shared by a few friends, and Gold fits 8 to 16 players spread across a large map.

  2. 2

    Let the legacy build install

After payment, the Java legacy build of the Rising World dedicated server installs automatically; watch it start in the gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net console.

  3. 3

    Upload your old world

Move the world you built in the Java edition to the server over SFTP; if the placement is unclear, our support team checks it with you.

  4. 4

    Adjust server.properties

Restrict access with server_password, open the remote console with rcon_enabled and rcon_password, then restart the server.

  5. 5

Show players how to launch Java

Players open risingworldx64.exe from the _Java Version folder and pick your server from the list or connect by IP and port.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from communities keeping Rising World's Java edition alive.

How much does Rising World Java Legacy hosting cost?
This product starts at ₺345.00 per month (about $8.63) with the Silver plan and 6 GB of memory, and there are 6 plans in total. We deliberately set the smallest tier at this level because the Java server runs on the JVM. Silver is a good start for a few friends, and Gold for larger groups.
Which plan suits my Java world?
We recommend Silver for a medium-sized world with 2 to 8 players and Gold for 8 to 16 players who roam widely. Plugin-heavy servers with huge cities are comfortable on Platinum or Diamond. Emerald and Xtreme go beyond what a Java Legacy server realistically needs.
What is the difference between Java Legacy and the Unity version?
The Java edition is the original game written on jMonkeyEngine and is now archived; the Unity version has been the default, actively developed Rising World since 31 January 2025. The two cannot connect to each other, their worlds are stored separately and their plugin APIs differ. Pick Legacy for an existing Java world or Java plugins, and Unity for a fresh start.
Can my players join with the current Steam version?
No, they need to run the Java edition first. They can launch risingworldx64.exe from the _Java Version folder inside the Rising World install directory or switch to the java - Legacy Version beta branch. Because the beta branch replaces the new version, suggest the folder method to anyone who plays both.
Can I move my Java world to a Unity server?
Java-edition worlds and blueprints are stored separately and do not affect the new version, so a Java world does not carry over to a Unity server on its own. If you want to keep playing in that world, the Java Legacy server is the right choice. If you later want the new version, start a separate, fresh world with our Unity product.
Do Java-edition plugins work?
Yes. The Java edition had its own Plugin API, and plugins written for it load on the legacy server; you upload them over SFTP. Plugins built for the Unity version's new Plugin API cannot stand in for them. The Rising World forum keeps the two versions' plugins in separate sections, so check which version a download targets.
How soon is the legacy server ready?
When your payment is confirmed, the legacy build installs automatically and is ready shortly after. You can start on a fresh world right away or upload your old one over SFTP. Once server.properties is edited and the server restarted, nothing stands between your players' Java clients and the server.
How do backups protect my old world?
Your server files are backed up automatically, which is the most important safeguard for a Java world with years of work in it. We also suggest downloading the world folder over SFTP before adding a plugin or changing server.properties. Since the legacy version gets no new content, a solid backup is what keeps the world alive for years.
Is a small legacy community protected from DDoS, and can I scale up?
Yes. Even a small veteran community can catch an attack, and free DDoS protection comes standard on every plan without any setup on your side. If returning players or a growing world push memory beyond your plan, you can move to a higher tier whenever you like.
