A Dune 2000 match runs on the players' machines; the server keeps the lobby ready, hands out orders and decides who lands on Arrakis.
Your server runs OpenRA's Dune 2000 mod, d2k as the engine calls it. Players see it listed under the right mod, so it never gets mixed up with Red Alert or Tiberian Dawn lobbies.
Lock the lobby with Server.Password and accept only listed OpenRA profiles with Server.ProfileIDWhitelist. No uninvited guests wander into your scheduled house wars.
Once the Harkonnen Death Hand has had the final word, the server swaps itself for a fresh instance. Nobody needs to host again for the rematch.
The first player in becomes lobby admin; if they leave, control passes to whoever has been connected longest. Have the organizer join first and maps and teams stay in their hands.
With Server.RecordReplays on, every match is saved server-side. Grab the moment a sandworm swallowed a key harvester, or a disputed final, over SFTP later and watch it back.
Lobby not in the list, or one player unable to connect? Our team replies in Turkish 24/7 via ticket, live chat, Discord, WhatsApp or phone.
For $6.00 a month (₺240.00), TheCrewHost's OpenRA Dune 2000 server hosting gets you your own dedicated game server running OpenRA's d2k mod on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in İstanbul. Dune 2000 lobbies are nowhere near as busy as Red Alert's, which is exactly where your own server earns its place: your crew meets in a ready lobby at the time you set on Discord, and the server opens the next lobby by itself after each match. Lock it with a password, admit only the OpenRA profiles you know, and play out the three-house war over spice and sandworms without interruptions.
OpenRA Dune 2000 is the d2k mod, which brings Westwood's Dune 2000 back to life on modern systems and online play. The war is fought on Arrakis over spice, with three playable houses. The Atreides, from the water world of Caladan, rely on ornithopters for air superiority and field the Sonic Tank, Grenadiers and Fremen warriors. The Harkonnen will stop at nothing to seize the spice, with the heavy Devastator, the Sardaukar and the atomic Death Hand missile. The Ordos, from the icy world of Sigma Draconis IV, are known for wealth and treachery and play with the fast Raider trike, the Stealth Raider, the Deviator and the Saboteur.
The map itself is an opponent. Spice fields and spice blooms shape the economy, while sandworms roaming the open sand can swallow unprotected units and harvesters. Building on concrete foundations and buying units from the Starport are part of the mod's own economic rhythm too.
Even the bots that fill empty slots have their own names: Omnius, Vidious and Gladius. In short, this isn't a Red Alert reskin; it's a separate game with its own rules.
An OpenRA Dune 2000 server makes the most sense for groups who love the Dune universe and want the asymmetric war between three houses. The mod's multiplayer player pool is smaller than Red Alert's, the busiest OpenRA mod, so finding a full Dune 2000 lobby in the public list at any hour can be tough. Your own server fixes that: pick an evening on Discord and everyone walks into a ready lobby at the same time.
Having three houses also makes three-way free-for-alls interesting. When an Atreides, a Harkonnen and an Ordos player race for spice on the same map, you get the alliances and betrayals that two-sided mods rarely produce.
If you want the widest pool of opponents, naval battles and the Allies-Soviet balance, a Red Alert server is the better call. If GDI and Nod's clash of stealth and heavy armor is more your style, choose Tiberian Dawn. But if your community gathers around Dune 2000, this server is exactly what you need.
Very few. OpenRA's network model is lockstep: spice harvesting, sandworm movement and every skirmish are computed on each player's computer at once. The server just collects the players' orders, hands them to everyone in the same sequence and manages the lobby. When a match ends, it swaps itself for a new instance.
That makes Bronze 4GB more than enough for Dune 2000; even a full lobby on a large map uses a small share of it. Extra memory or cores won't speed a match up in this game. What shapes the experience is orders reaching every player without delay, which depends on the server being close to your players and on a clean network path.
We don't recommend the higher plans for this mod. Only a community that wants to keep years of match recordings and custom maps on the server might find a use for the extra NVMe space, and even then, periodically downloading and archiving old recordings is the smarter move.
Dune 2000 servers are mostly used for scheduled, private games, so access control matters. Server.Password locks the lobby behind a password. If you turn off Server.AdvertiseOnline, the server never appears in the public list at all, and only crew members who know the IP address and port can join.
For a tighter setup, switch on Server.RequireAuthentication so only players with a linked OpenRA profile can enter. Then add your invitees' profile IDs to Server.ProfileIDWhitelist, and the server accepts nobody else. Server.ProfileIDBlacklist and IP-based Server.Ban keep unwanted players out.
In the lobby, the first player to join becomes admin and decides the map, house assignments, bots and game options. If the admin leaves, control passes to whoever has been on the server longest, which is why it's a good habit for the organizer to join first before a scheduled match. Server.EnableSingleplayer is off by default; switch it on if you want a single player to practice against bots. You can also drop a motd.txt file into OpenRA's support directory to show house rules to everyone entering the lobby.
Each player downloads OpenRA's Dune 2000 mod. On first launch, the mod asks them to install Dune 2000's game content and walks them through the available options; they can't play until that step is done. There's nothing you need to do about this on the server side.
Players can reach the server two ways. If it's listed, they find its name in OpenRA's multiplayer list; for a private server, they type the IP and port from your panel into the direct connect screen. OpenRA's default is TCP 1234; your panel shows the exact port your server received.
A player's OpenRA release must match the server's exactly, or they either can't connect or the match falls out of sync. When a new release comes out, move over together with your crew. Since your slice of Arrakis is hosted in İstanbul, house leaders in Türkiye issue orders with low latency, and rivals from Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus play smoothly too.
A Dune 2000 lobby server barely registers on the smallest plan, full lobbies included. Order it and pay to start the automatic install.
Your server installs automatically once payment is confirmed. The console, file manager, backups and SFTP details live at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.
Set the name with Server.Name and a password with Server.Password. If only your crew should join, turn off Server.AdvertiseOnline or add invitees to ProfileIDWhitelist.
Make sure everyone has installed OpenRA's Dune 2000 mod, finished the content install on first launch and is running the same release as the server.
The first player to join becomes admin, picks the map and assigns houses and bots. Then the rest of the crew joins from the list or by IP:port.
What people ask before setting up an OpenRA Dune 2000 server: price, game content, bots, three-house matches and connecting.
Our İstanbul datacenter runs on Ryzen 9 hardware, delivering low latency to players in Türkiye and good connectivity to Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus.
