Why TheCrewHost for Modiverse?

Hosting that understands Modiverse's UGC-driven map cycle, its sandbox physics and the quirks of an Early Access server.

Mode Rotation with mapCycle

Each mapCycle entry holds a game mode, a map, a list of required assets and a duration in seconds. Build a mixed rotation that moves from Deathrun to TTT in a single file.

Workshop Content Loaded at Start

The server uses its ServerData folder as the user content folder and prepares the content in your rotation at startup. Modes and maps are referenced by numeric Workshop IDs.

MOTD Page and RCON

Use motdURL to show players a web page, motdDelay to set how long it stays up, and rconPassword to set the password for remote administration.

CPU Ready for Physics

Thruster-driven vehicles, wheeled contraptions and builds made of hundreds of props push the CPU hard. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed keeps crowded sandbox scenes smooth.

Debug Output in the Console

Because the game is in Early Access, the server console prints a lot of debug lines. The panel console lets you pick out the errors that matter from that noise.

DDoS-Protected Server

Public TTT and Deathrun servers can be easy targets. Free DDoS protection filters attack traffic and helps rounds keep running without interruption.

Modiverse server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 ($6.00) per month, and the entry plan runs Deep Voodoo Games' Linux dedicated server on 4 GB of DDR5 RAM, Ryzen 9 9950X cores and NVMe SSD. Modiverse is an open multiplayer sandbox where you build worlds with physics-based tools and props and play modes such as TTT, Deathrun, FortWars and RolePlay. Your server stays up 24/7 in İstanbul, and ServerConfiguration.json lets you set the MOTD page, the RCON password and a mapCycle made of modes, maps and round lengths. The game is still in Steam Early Access and its most recent build dates back to April 2021; we explain what that means below.

What is Modiverse, and which modes run on a server?

Modiverse is an open multiplayer sandbox game developed by Deep Voodoo Games. You build complex physics-based worlds from tools and props, wiring up contraptions with lights, thrusters, wheels and more. The real draw, though, is the ready-made game modes built on top of that sandbox: TTT, where players hunt for traitors; Deathrun, a gauntlet of traps; FortWars, where teams build and defend; and RolePlay.

The mod kit that ships with the game lets you create your own tools, props, levels and entirely new game modes, and Steam Workshop is supported. When you run a Modiverse server, you bring that content together in a map rotation and offer it to your community at a single address.

A typical use is an evening of alternating TTT and Deathrun rounds with a group of friends, or testing a mode you made with real players. Because the server stays up 24/7, your group can get together whenever it suits them.

Where does Modiverse stand today?

Modiverse launched in Steam Early Access on February 19, 2021. The last major announcement on Steam is Release 18 from April 2021, which added an open-source RolePlay mode and a new character system, and the public builds of both the game and the Linux dedicated server have not been updated since.

For a server owner, that cuts two ways. On the plus side, you will not run into client and server version mismatches; the build you install keeps working unchanged for a long time. On the other hand, the player community is small, and you should not expect new features or bug fixes.

So a Modiverse server makes the most sense for a friend group that already plays the game, or for creators experimenting with the mod kit. If you are planning a large public community, keep expectations realistic and start on the entry plan; if the game gets updated again and your community grows, you can move up a plan at any time.

How do you set up ServerConfiguration.json and the mapCycle?

A Modiverse server's settings live in ServerConfiguration.json in the KJMod/Binaries/Linux/ServerData folder. The motdURL field sets the address of an HTML page shown to players, motdDelay controls how long it stays on screen, and rconPassword sets the remote administration password. The RCON password in the default file is a well-known sample value, so change it before you open the server.

The mapCycle array does the real work. In each entry, gameMode holds the numeric Workshop ID of the game mode and map the ID of the map; the assets array lists any extra content that combination needs, and duration sets how many seconds that round lasts. The comment field is just a note for you. The default file ships with a single 1800-second Deathrun entry.

Add as many entries as you like for a mixed rotation. Because the file is JSON, one missing comma or bracket will stop the server from starting, so stop the server before editing and watch the console after you save.

Which plan is right for a Modiverse server?

For Modiverse, Bronze 4GB is a good starting point for friend groups and TTT or Deathrun servers of up to 16 players. The server software accepts anywhere from 2 to 128 player slots, but physics in the scene drives resource needs more than the player count does.

In sandbox mode, the thruster vehicles, wheeled contraptions and hundreds of props that players build are all simulated at once. That load depends on single-core speed and climbs quickly on a busy build server. For servers of 16–32 players with free building allowed, Silver 6GB or Gold 8GB leaves more comfortable headroom.

Given the game's small community today, Platinum and above are more than most Modiverse servers need. If you keep lots of Workshop content in a long mapCycle, disk space matters as well; NVMe storage on our plans scales from 50 GB to 200 GB. The sensible approach is to watch CPU and memory in the panel graphs and upgrade only when you need to.

How do players find your Modiverse server?

Players join your Modiverse server from the game's server list once they own the game on Steam. The server appears under the SteamServerName value in its startup parameters, so putting the mode and language in the name, for example Turkish TTT, helps the right players find you.

The server uses one port for game traffic and a separate query port for Steam queries. The defaults are 7777 and 27015, but the ports assigned to your server in the panel are what count. If you do not show up in the list, first confirm in the console that the server has started listening, then check that the query port is set correctly.

The page you show through motdURL is a great place to explain your rules, link your Discord and list the modes in rotation. If you do not have web space to host it, a TheCrewHost web hosting plan does the job. With the server in İstanbul, players from Türkiye get low latency in TTT's fast firefights and Deathrun's traps.

How to Set Up a Modiverse Server

  1. 1

Pick a plan for your group size

Bronze 4GB covers a friend group and TTT or Deathrun for up to 16 players. For crowded servers that allow free building, look at Silver or Gold.

  2. 2

Let the server install, then open the panel

After payment, the Modiverse dedicated server files install automatically. gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net gives you the console and file manager.

  3. 3

    Edit ServerConfiguration.json

In the ServerData folder, change rconPassword first, then set motdURL and motdDelay to point at your own rules page.

  4. 4

    Build your mapCycle

For each round, enter the gameMode and map Workshop IDs, an assets list if needed, and a duration in seconds. Double-check the JSON structure before saving.

  5. 5

Start the server and share its name

Once the console shows the server listening, give players its name. Anyone who owns the game on Steam can find it in the list and join.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before opening a Modiverse server: price, plan size, the mapCycle, the game's status and connecting.

How much does Modiverse server hosting cost?
You can start Modiverse on Bronze 4GB for ₺240.00 ($6.00) a month, with 4 vCores of Ryzen 9 9950X, 4 GB of DDR5 RAM and 50 GB of NVMe SSD. Across 7 plans, memory goes from 4 GB up to 32 GB, although the entry plan is enough for most Modiverse servers.
Is Modiverse still being updated?
Modiverse is in Steam Early Access, and its latest public build is Release 18 from April 2021; neither the game nor the dedicated server has been updated since. The server runs fine and you will not hit version mismatches, but the community is small. A server makes the most sense for groups that already play.
How much RAM should I choose for Modiverse?
Bronze 4GB is enough for servers running a ready-made TTT or Deathrun rotation with up to 16 players. If you allow free building and players make thruster-powered contraptions, Silver 6GB or Gold 8GB is more comfortable. Physics in the scene drives resource use more than player count does.
Can I add my own mode to the map rotation?
Yes. Add a new entry to the mapCycle array in ServerConfiguration.json, put the relevant Workshop IDs in gameMode and map, list any extra content under assets, and set the round length in duration. A mode you built with the mod kit can join the rotation the same way once it is on the Workshop.
How long does setup take?
After your order is confirmed, the dedicated server files are installed automatically and the server appears in the panel. We suggest changing the RCON password and building your mapCycle first; after that, the server is ready for players within minutes of starting it.
Where do players find my Modiverse server?
Players need to own Modiverse on Steam. They find your server in the game's server list under the SteamServerName set in the startup settings and join from there. Adding the mode and language to the name makes it easier to spot; if you are missing, check the console and the query port.
Why does the server console print so many lines?
Because Modiverse is in Early Access, the server produces heavy debug output, which the developers said would be removed for the full release. Those lines are usually harmless. To find real errors, focus on the lines about reading ServerConfiguration.json and loading content after startup.
Are backups and DDoS protection included?
Yes. The panel's automatic backups cover ServerConfiguration.json and the ServerData folder, and we recommend an extra manual backup before big rotation changes. Every plan includes free DDoS protection, which helps shield public TTT servers from attack traffic.
Can I upgrade my plan later?
Yes, you can move to a larger plan at any time, and your config file and ServerData folder stay as they are. Upgrading makes sense when the panel graphs show you nearing CPU or memory limits, especially during free-building rounds.
