Why TheCrewHost for Team Fortress 2 Classic?

Features chosen around Classified's unusual server layout and the needs of its community.

Installed alongside TF2 content

A Classified server reads the current TF2 dedicated server's files through -tf_path, and your plan includes the NVMe space to keep both installs side by side.

CPU for four-team chaos

Maps where four teams fight at once push the single-threaded Source loop hard. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed helps you hold tick through the mayhem.

tf2classified/cfg access

Set your server name, password, rcon options and map rotation in tf2classified/cfg/server.cfg, edited through the file manager or over SFTP.

SourceMod and Metamod installs

Upload the development builds of Metamod:Source and SourceMod that Classified needs, plus community-patched extensions, straight into the addons folder.

Free DDoS protection

With no official servers, community servers are front and center and can draw attacks. DDoS protection is free on every plan.

24/7 support in Turkish

Questions about launch parameters, GSLT or linking the two installs get answered through tickets, Discord, WhatsApp or live chat.

For ₺240.00 a month (about $6.00), you get a Team Fortress 2 Classic server that installs automatically after payment and runs on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage in İstanbul. TF2 Classic launched free on Steam on January 30, 2026 as Team Fortress 2 Classified, adding GRN and YLW teams alongside RED and BLU, a Civilian class escorted in VIP mode and new modes such as Domination. The developers have no plans for official servers like Valve's Casual matchmaking, so the game lives entirely on community servers, and yours becomes part of that network. Note that a Classified server depends on the content of Valve's current TF2 dedicated server.

Why is TF2 Classic now called Team Fortress 2 Classified?

Team Fortress 2 Classic began as a mod built around ideas from Team Fortress 2's design and spent many years running on Source SDK 2013, distributed outside Steam. When Valve released a development kit containing TF2's source code in early 2025, the team moved the game onto that new foundation and prepared it for Steam.

The mod was originally due to enter beta in October 2025. Valve then told the team that a game cannot be both a mod and a demo at the same time, so the launch was delayed and the game was renamed Team Fortress 2 Classified. It released for free on Steam on January 30, 2026, with a native Linux version.

For server owners, that history has a practical consequence. The old, non-Steam TF2 Classic builds are now considered legacy and used a 32-bit setup on Source SDK Base 2013. For players on the Steam Classified client to connect, your server needs to run the current Classified build. After setup, check the console to confirm the server is starting the Classified version, and contact our support team if you see anything unexpected.

What sets Classified apart from Valve's TF2, and which should you choose?

Classified's headline difference is four teams. Variations of modes like Capture the Flag and King of the Hill were redesigned to add GRN and YLW teams next to RED and BLU. In VIP mode, the Civilian class, who carries no ranged weapon, has to be escorted to an objective by bodyguards, while VIP Race is a symmetrical variant where both teams protect their own VIP. Domination and Territorial Domination, which shifts spawn points dynamically, are also Classified's own modes.

On the weapons side, you will find picks inspired by TF2's pre-release era such as the Nail Gun, the Dynamite Pack and the Tranquilizer Gun. Overall, the game trims TF2's less coherent elements in favor of gameplay-focused additions.

The choice is simple. If your players gather in Valve's current TF2 on trade, jump or MvM servers, our Team Fortress 2 page is the right place. If you are building a community around four-team modes, VIP and the Civilian in a tighter TF2 experience, this plan is for you. Because there is no official matchmaking server, every Classified match is played on a community server.

How does a Classified server work, and why does it need the TF2 dedicated server?

A Classified server does not run on its own. The Classified dedicated server package on Steam (app 3557020) needs the content of Valve's current TF2 dedicated server (232250) and points to that install with the -tf_path launch parameter. In practice, two installs sit side by side on your server: TF2's content and Classified's own files.

The current server is 64-bit only and starts with srcds_linux64 on Linux. Your settings live in tf2classified/cfg/server.cfg, with defaults in default.cfg in the same folder. That is where you set the server name, a password with sv_password, the rcon password and your map rotation. The default game port is 27015, but on TheCrewHost the port assigned in the panel is what counts.

To run in Steam Datagram Relay (SDR) mode you need a Game Server Login Token, created on Steam's game server management page and applied with sv_setsteamaccount. When either TF2 or Classified updates, both installs need to be current; if one falls behind, the server may fail to start or players may be unable to connect.

SourceMod, plugins and competitive configs

Classified servers can use Metamod:Source and SourceMod, but there is a key detail: the current build requires the development versions of both tools. Stable releases may not always work with Classified's new 64-bit base. For plugins that rely on TF2-specific functions, the community-patched TF2 Tools extension is distributed through Classified's Discord server.

The competitive scene is organized around the CompTF2C community. It publishes an official server plugin, a config pack and VScript tweaks for some modes, and ready-made configs such as cc_vipr_9v9plus for VIPR matches are loaded with the exec command. Some setups also use the Stripper:Source plugin to adjust map entities.

Because the plugin ecosystem is younger than Valve TF2's, compatibility breaks after updates can happen more often. Back up the addons folder before every Classified update, read the console carefully afterwards, and isolate problems by disabling failing plugins one at a time.

How big a plan does a Classified server really need?

Classified runs on the Source engine's TF2 foundation, so its resource needs resemble TF2's, with two differences. The first is disk: the server holds both the TF2 content and the Classified files, so it takes more space than vanilla TF2. The second is four-team maps: even at the same player count, rounds with four fronts clashing give the server's single-threaded loop more work.

For a community server of up to 24 players, the Bronze plan with 4 GB is a good start. If you are planning 24 to 32 players, a few plugins and a wide map rotation, Silver is more comfortable. For servers keeping competitive configs, SourceTV demos and a custom content archive, Gold adds extra disk and memory headroom.

Plans above that are usually unnecessary for a single Classified server; what drives performance is single-core speed rather than memory, and the Ryzen 9 9950X is identical across every plan. Keep an eye on disk usage in the panel, and upgrade whenever your custom map archive grows.

How to Set Up a Team Fortress 2 Classic Server

  1. 1

Choose a plan for your player count

Start on Bronze for a community server of up to 24 players, Silver for 24 to 32 players with plugins, and Gold for competitive configs and a demo archive.

  2. 2

Verify the Classified build after setup

When the automatic install finishes, check the console at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net to confirm the server runs the Classified build and finds the TF2 content.

  3. 3

    Edit tf2classified/cfg/server.cfg

Set the server name, sv_password, the rcon password and your map rotation; if you want SDR, apply your GSLT with sv_setsteamaccount.

  4. 4

Install Metamod and SourceMod if you need them

Upload the development builds of Metamod:Source and SourceMod with the patched TF2 Tools extension into the addons folder over SFTP, then restart.

  5. 5

    Bring players together in Classified

Players grab Team Fortress 2 Classified free on Steam, then search your server name in the browser or type connect with your IP and port. Pin the address on Discord.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask most before opening a TF2 Classic (Classified) server.

How much does Team Fortress 2 Classic server hosting cost?
Bronze is offered at ₺240.00 per month, roughly $6.00, and includes 4 GB of DDR5 memory. The range spans 7 plans up to 32 GB, but a Classified community server usually sits comfortably between Bronze and Gold. The Ryzen 9 9950X, NVMe storage and free DDoS protection are the same on every plan.
Are TF2 Classic and TF2 Classified the same game?
Yes. Team Fortress 2 Classic took the name Team Fortress 2 Classified when it moved to Steam, releasing for free on January 30, 2026. The old non-Steam TF2 Classic builds are now legacy. For players on Steam to connect, the server must run the current Classified build.
Does the server also need the Team Fortress 2 dedicated server?
Yes. The Classified dedicated server package needs the content of Valve's current TF2 dedicated server and uses that install through the -tf_path parameter. Two installs therefore live on your server, and disk use is higher than vanilla TF2. Both need to stay up to date.
How much RAM do I need and which plan should I buy?
Bronze is enough for a server of up to 24 players. We suggest Silver for 24 to 32 players with a few plugins, and Gold for competitive configs, SourceTV demos and a larger custom content archive. On four-team maps the load falls mainly on one core, so CPU speed matters more than memory.
Do SourceMod plugins work?
They do, but Classified's current build needs the development versions of Metamod:Source and SourceMod. For plugins that use TF2-specific functions, the community-patched TF2 Tools extension is distributed on Classified's Discord server. Backing up the addons folder before every update is a good habit.
How long does setup take?
Your payment confirmation kicks off the install on its own. Because a Classified server also needs TF2's content, there is more to download than for a single light game. When it finishes, the server boots in the panel console and you can move on to your server.cfg settings.
How do players connect to my server?
Players first grab Team Fortress 2 Classified for free on Steam. From there they either search your server name in the game's browser or open the console and enter connect with your panel's IP:port. Anyone on a different Classified version will be refused, so announce updates to your community ahead of time.
How do backups work?
Classified updates tend to shake the young plugin ecosystem, so pair the automatic backups with a manual panel snapshot right before each patch. The folders that matter most are tf2classified/cfg and addons; restoring them brings your configs and plugins back if something breaks after the update.
Is a Classified server protected from DDoS, and can it grow?
Yes. With no official servers, community hosts are the whole scene, and every plan includes free DDoS filtering to keep yours reachable. When the community or map archive grows, upgrade whenever you want; both installs, plugins and settings stay put.
