The Vanilla build is about keeping it simple: what Valve ships is what runs, and you add only what you choose.
The server runs on the official files Valve distributes through SteamCMD. The engine and game DLL stay stock, so matches play by the CS 1.6 rules every player already knows.
Alongside server.cfg, create your own match.cfg or pub.cfg and switch instantly with exec. Freeze time, start money, C4 timer and team balance all sit in one file.
Vanilla does not have to mean no plugins. Load Metamod through liblist.gam and AMX Mod X on top of it for admin menus, map voting and stats plugins.
HLDS runs on one thread and asks the CPU for more frames as sys_ticrate goes up. The Ryzen 9 9950X's clock speed keeps those frames steady even on a 32-player server.
With no extra flood cvars in the stock engine, protection at the network edge matters even more. Free DDoS protection is standard on every plan, so a clan match is not cut short by an attack.
Send changelevel, sv_restart or status from the browser console, edit cfg files in the file manager and upload maps and motd files over SFTP.
Counter-Strike 1.6 Vanilla server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 ($6.00) a month and gives you a server in İstanbul on a Ryzen 9 9950X, installed from the official HLDS and cstrike files Valve distributes through SteamCMD. The engine and game DLL are left alone, so round flow, weapon behavior and physics match stock CS 1.6 exactly. That makes Vanilla the right home for clans, 5v5 mix groups and teams practicing for tournaments, for plugin developers testing against official binaries, and for servers that depend on older plugins. For plugin-heavy public servers, our ReHLDS build is the better fit.
Vanilla is for people who do not want anything except Valve's own files shaping gameplay on their server. The engine (HLDS) and the game library (cs.so inside cstrike) run in their official form, and updates arrive straight from Valve's SteamCMD distribution.
Three groups benefit most. First, clans, 5v5 mix groups and teams practicing for tournaments, who expect the same stock behavior no matter whose server they play on. Second, plugin developers who want to test their .amxx work against the official binaries. Third, servers that depend on older plugins scanning engine machine code, such as Orpheu-based ones, which will most likely fail on ReHLDS.
If you are building a 32-player public, CSDM, jailbreak or zombie server and want modern plugins that need ReAPI, our ReHLDS build is the better choice. The ReAPI module requires the ReHLDS engine, so those plugins will not load on Vanilla.
The golden rule on a match server is to keep public settings and match settings in separate files. server.cfg carries the server's identity: hostname, rcon_password, sv_password, sv_contact and logging. The match rules go into a separate match.cfg you place in the cstrike folder.
A typical match.cfg sets mp_freezetime, mp_roundtime, mp_startmoney 800, mp_c4timer, mp_buytime and mp_friendlyfire 1. To keep team balancing from interfering, set mp_autoteambalance 0 and mp_limitteams 0, and limit what dead players can watch with mp_forcecamera. Before kickoff, send exec match.cfg followed by sv_restart 1 from the console.
When the match is over, exec pub.cfg returns to public rules, mapcycle.txt controls the rotation and motd.txt sets the message players see on joining. Every one of these files can be edited in the panel's file manager, and taking a backup first makes it easy to return to the old setup.
Yes. Vanilla does not have to stay plugin-free; it only means the engine is not replaced. Upload Metamod to cstrike/addons/metamod, then edit the gamedll_linux line in cstrike/liblist.gam so it points at Metamod's library. Once Metamod is running, load AMX Mod X through addons/metamod/plugins.ini.
The admin menu, map voting, anti-flood and stats plugins that ship with AMX Mod X work fine on Vanilla. Add admins with their access letters to addons/amxmodx/configs/users.ini, and control which plugins load in plugins.ini.
The limit is this: plugins built on ReAPI or ReGameDLL cvars do not work on Vanilla, because those belong to the ReHLDS ecosystem. When choosing a plugin, check whether its description lists ReAPI as a requirement. Most of what a classic match server or small public needs does not.
Bronze 4GB is more than enough for a Vanilla CS 1.6 server. HLDS memory use usually stays in the range of a few hundred megabytes and the game tops out at 32 players; a 10-player match server needs even less.
Performance comes from single-core speed and sensible rate settings, not RAM. sv_maxrate and sv_minrate bound each player's bandwidth, while sv_maxupdaterate and sv_minupdaterate bound updates per second; high updaterate values such as 101 are common in the community. sys_ticrate sets how many frames per second the server processes. Raising it increases CPU use, so change it deliberately and measure with status and player feedback.
Every plan from Bronze to Diamond has the same 4 vCores, and HLDS uses a single core. The extra cores on Emerald and Xtreme do nothing for this game. Only move up when a growing map or demo archive needs more disk.
rcon is the classic way to manage a Vanilla server remotely. Put a strong rcon_password in server.cfg; in game, enter the same password in the console with rcon_password and send commands like rcon changelevel de_nuke. The sv_rcon_maxfailures and sv_rcon_banpenalty settings automatically block anyone trying to guess the password.
Permanent bans live in two files. Ban SteamIDs with banid and save them to banned.cfg with writeid; ban IPs with addip and save them to listip.cfg with writeip. With exec banned.cfg and exec listip.cfg in server.cfg, bans survive restarts.
The stock engine has none of ReHLDS's command flood guards. Keep AMX Mod X's anti-flood plugin enabled for chat and command spam, and rely on the free DDoS protection included with every plan for attacks at the network level.
Players open the console and type connect IP:port; the default port is 27015 and your panel shows the exact details. Match servers usually have a password, so players set it first with the password command and then connect.
Anyone who wants to save the server can add IP:port on the Favorites tab of the Find Servers screen. Public servers without a password are listed on the Internet tab, where players can search by server name.
When arranging a clan match, sending the other team the IP, port and password in one message is all it takes. Because the server is in İstanbul, two teams connecting from Türkiye both get low, closely matched latency, which heads off a good share of post-match arguments before they start.
Bronze 4GB covers clan matches, 5v5 mix or a small public server. If you are planning a plugin-heavy public, consider the ReHLDS build instead.
After payment is confirmed, the official HLDS files install automatically and the server appears in your gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net account with the console and file manager ready.
Enter a hostname, a strong rcon_password and optionally sv_password. Add exec banned.cfg and exec listip.cfg so bans persist across restarts.
Write match rules and public rules into separate files. Before a match, send exec match.cfg and then sv_restart 1 to switch modes in seconds.
For an admin menu or map voting, upload the files over SFTP, edit the liblist.gam line and add your own SteamID to users.ini.
Share the connection details from the panel. Players join with the password and connect commands and can favorite the server so the next match starts without delay.
