Why server owners choose the ReHLDS build: a steadier engine, extra game rules and the API modern plugin authors expect.
ReHLDS is a rebuild of HLDS build 6152/6153 produced by reverse engineering. Many bugs that lingered in the official engine were fixed, and an extended API was added for modders.
Turn on team-free FFA with mp_freeforall, respawns with mp_forcerespawn, buying anywhere with mp_buy_anywhere and endless rounds with mp_round_infinite, one cvar line each.
The sv_rehlds_movecmdrate and stringcmdrate settings punish command spammers automatically, and connections from a single IP are capped. It adds a second shield inside the game on top of our free DDoS protection.
Metamod-r is a Metamod build optimized for ReHLDS. The ReAPI module exposes ReHLDS and ReGameDLL hooks to AMXX plugins, and most current jailbreak and zombie plugins require it.
GoldSrc servers run on one thread. The Ryzen 9 9950X's clock speed keeps server FPS steady on a full 32-player public even with dozens of AMXX plugins running every frame.
Run meta list, amxx plugins or game version from the panel console, upload .amxx files over SFTP and roll back to an earlier setup from a backup if an update goes wrong.
Counter-Strike 1.6 ReHLDS server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 ($6.00) per month and runs on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in İstanbul, using the community's reverse-engineered ReHLDS engine instead of Valve's stock HLDS. Paired with ReGameDLL_CS, Metamod-r, AMX Mod X and ReAPI, it gives public, CSDM, jailbreak and zombie servers extra gameplay cvars, command flood protection and a richer plugin API. If you would rather run Valve's untouched engine and game DLL, see our CS 1.6 Vanilla page instead.
ReHLDS is a reverse-engineered, bug-fixed rebuild of Valve's Half-Life Dedicated Server engine. Its authors reconstructed build 6152/6153 from the debug information shipped in the Linux HLDS binaries, fixed a long list of defects along the way and added an extended API for plugins.
In practice ReHLDS replaces the official engine binary (engine_i486.so on Linux) and is compatible with the pre-anniversary HLDS build, the steam_legacy branch in SteamCMD. ReGameDLL_CS does the same job for the game DLL, replacing cs.so inside cstrike.
There is a trade-off. Because ReHLDS and ReGameDLL are compiled with different compilers, they are not binary compatible with Valve's files, and plugins that scan engine machine code, Orpheu being the usual example, will probably not work. If you depend on a plugin like that, or simply want Valve's files exactly as shipped, choose the Vanilla build. If you are building a plugin-heavy community server, ReHLDS is the better fit.
ReGameDLL_CS turns a lot of rules that used to need plugins in classic CS 1.6 into plain cvars. mp_freeforall 1 removes teams for FFA, mp_forcerespawn brings players back after death and mp_respawn_immunitytime adds spawn protection; together they make a lightweight deathmatch server.
mp_buy_anywhere removes buy zone limits, while mp_infinite_ammo and mp_infinite_grenades switch on unlimited ammo. mp_round_infinite selectively disables round-end checks, which is handy for jailbreak, zombie and deathrun modes where a plugin controls the round flow. From the console, endround and swapteams let you finish a round or switch the teams.
CS 1.6 never shipped with official bots, but ReGameDLL adds zBot support: install the bot profile files and put bot_enable 1 in cstrike/game_init.cfg. With bot_quota_mode set to fill, the server tops up empty slots with bots as players drop, which keeps a public server alive during quiet late-night hours.
Bronze 4GB handles even a full 32-player ReHLDS server with ease. GoldSrc servers use very little memory, typically far below 1 GB even with dozens of AMXX plugins, and CS 1.6 caps out at 32 players anyway, so RAM is never the bottleneck.
What matters is single-core CPU speed, since the server runs on one thread. Every plan from Bronze through Diamond comes with the same 4 vCores, and the extra cores on Emerald and Xtreme do nothing for a single HLDS process. Buying a big plan for CS 1.6 is money you do not need to spend.
Only consider Silver 6GB or Gold 8GB for a specific reason: large zombie packs with hundreds of custom models and sounds, a wide map archive, or demos and logs you keep for a long time. The cstrike folder rarely grows past a few gigabytes, so Bronze's 50 GB of NVMe lasts most servers indefinitely.
The plugin chain works like this: the engine loads Metamod-r, Metamod-r loads AMX Mod X, and AMX Mod X loads your .amxx plugins. Metamod modules are listed in addons/metamod/plugins.ini, AMXX plugins in addons/amxmodx/configs/plugins.ini, and compiled .amxx files go into addons/amxmodx/plugins.
ReAPI is a module that exposes ReHLDS and ReGameDLL hooks to AMX Mod X. Put the module file in addons/amxmodx/modules; many current jailbreak, zombie and mod-menu plugins will not load without it. When a plugin refuses to start, the output of amxx modules and amxx plugins in the console is the first thing to check.
Admins go in addons/amxmodx/configs/users.ini with a SteamID, access letters and login flags, and general settings live in amxx.cfg. Use the panel's file manager to see which of these components your server already includes, and upload anything missing over SFTP. Backing up before every big change means a broken plugins.ini is seconds away from being restored.
The most valuable ReHLDS settings are the protection and fix cvars that vanilla HLDS simply does not have. sv_rehlds_movecmdrate_max_avg and max_burst limit movement command spam, the stringcmdrate settings cap text command floods, and the matching punish cvars set the penalty as a ban in minutes, a permanent ban, or a kick when negative.
sv_rehlds_maxclients_from_single_ip limits how many simultaneous connections one IP address can open, with a default of 5. If a group of your players connects from the same internet cafe or household, raise it. The dlfile settings rate-limit file requests and protect the server against download floods.
On 24/7 servers that run the same map for hours, sv_rehlds_local_gametime 1 was added to reduce the lag that builds up over long uptimes. sv_rehlds_force_dlmax forces a client's cl_dlmax value to avoid packet fragmentation. Put these in server.cfg, then watch the server over an evening before tuning further.
For players ReHLDS is invisible; they connect exactly as they always have. Opening the console and typing connect IP:port is quickest, and the default game port is 27015. Adding IP:port on the Favorites tab of the in-game Find Servers screen, or through View > Game Servers in Steam, works as well.
Before joining a passworded server, players enter it with the password command in the console. On zombie and jailbreak servers with custom models, sounds or maps, setting an HTTP download address with sv_downloadurl lets players pull those files far faster.
With the server running in İstanbul, players in Türkiye get low latency, which shows in a reflex-driven game like CS 1.6. Putting the mode and slot count in the hostname (for example JB, ZM or CSDM) makes your server easier to spot in the list.
Bronze 4GB covers public, CSDM, jailbreak or zombie servers up to 32 players. If you want stock Valve files instead, choose the Vanilla build.
Once your payment is confirmed the server installs itself and shows up in gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net. First, use the file manager to see which components come ready in cstrike and addons.
After basics like hostname, rcon_password, sv_password and mp_timelimit, add the mode-specific values such as mp_freeforall, mp_forcerespawn or mp_round_infinite to server.cfg.
Upload any missing components to addons over SFTP, place the ReAPI module in the modules folder, then confirm everything loaded with meta list and amxx modules.
Add your own SteamID with access flags to users.ini, drop .amxx plugins into the plugins folder and list them in plugins.ini. Restart and check the console after each new plugin.
Post the IP and port from the panel in your Discord or forum. Once players add it to their Favorites tab, they can find your server in one click every time.
