Why TheCrewHost for starmade?

A StarMade setup built around block-by-block ships, crowded sectors and universes that live for years.

Every server.cfg Rule

Adjust MAX_CLIENTS, THRUST_SPEED_LIMIT, SECTOR_AUTOSAVE_SEC, ENEMY_SPAWNING and dozens more from the file manager, from death penalties to shop prices and asteroid resource density.

Blueprint Catalog Control

Decide whether players may upload local blueprints, cap catalog slots per player, and auto-kick or ban anyone spawning a blueprint that was modified outside the game.

Physics and Chunk Threads

Big ships stress collision and physics checks; follow the config's own advice and set CHUNK_REQUEST_THREAD_POOL_SIZE_CPU near your vCore count minus one to spread sector generation.

NVMe for server-database

Every sector players visit is written into server-database, and NVMe keeps autosaves and chunk loading quick even after months of exploration and station building.

Whitelist, Admins and Accounts

Use whitelist.txt with USE_WHITELIST, promote staff with /add_admin, and require StarMade accounts so nobody can log in under a faction leader's name.

Turkish Support Around the Clock

When a sector refuses to load or the server stalls on startup, our team reads the logs with you over ticket, Discord, WhatsApp, phone or live chat, at any hour.

A StarMade server at TheCrewHost costs ₺240.00 ($6.00) per month on the entry plan, and every tier from 4 GB to 32 GB runs the Java-based StarMade server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. You get the whole install folder: server.cfg with its long list of universe, physics and blueprint rules, the whitelist and admin files, and the server-database folder that holds your universe. Hosted in İstanbul, the server keeps dogfights and docking maneuvers responsive for pilots in Türkiye and nearby regions, while sector saves and chunk loading lean on fast NVMe drives.

What does a StarMade server host, and which server styles work?

A StarMade server hosts one persistent universe for Schine's voxel space sandbox. Players design ships block by block, build stations, mine planets, found factions and claim territory, and all of it carries on after the server restarts. With ENABLE_SIMULATION on in server.cfg, the server also simulates AI factions in the background, including the trading guild that delivers stock to shops.

That flexibility supports very different server styles. A faction PvP server revolves around territory and fleet clashes; a builder community might turn ENEMY_SPAWNING off and soften death penalties so hours-long ship projects are not interrupted. PROTECT_STARTING_SECTOR shields the spawn sector so new players are not hunted the moment they arrive.

The config even includes a BATTLE_MODE for arena-style events, though the file itself flags it as expert-only. Renting your own server means every one of these decisions is made for your community rather than by whoever happens to be hosting from their PC that night.

How much RAM does a StarMade server need?

StarMade is a Java server, so what really matters is the heap the JVM gets, plus a little memory outside the heap for Java itself. Memory use is driven by how many sectors are loaded at once, the block counts of ships, docked turrets and how many players are spread across different sectors. A crew of five flying small ships in one region is comfortable on 4 GB; once capital ships with millions of blocks appear, the requirement grows quickly.

SECTOR_INACTIVE_TIMEOUT and SECTOR_INACTIVE_CLEANUP_TIMEOUT control how soon empty sectors go inactive and are dropped from memory, and on a busy server they are the settings that relieve memory the most.

Physics is usually what limits the CPU. PHYSICS_SLOWDOWN_THRESHOLD sets how long a collision test may take before the server switches into anti-slowdown mode. The first five tiers share 4 vCores, while Emerald steps up to 6 and Xtreme to 12 for fleet-battle servers. On disk, the server-database folder grows with every sector explored, and reaching tens of gigabytes over months of play is normal.

Which server.cfg settings shape your universe?

server.cfg is StarMade's server settings file, hundreds of lines long, with a short comment on each; stop the server before you edit it. WORLD chooses which universe folder loads, and SECTOR_SIZE sets sector dimensions, though the file warns that shrinking it on an existing universe can cause problems.

THRUST_SPEED_LIMIT has the biggest gameplay impact: it caps ship speed, and values set too high can make objects tunnel through each other in the physics engine. COLLISION_DAMAGE decides whether ramming hurts, PLAYER_DEATH_CREDIT_PUNISHMENT sets the share of credits lost on death, and SHOP_SPAWNING_PROBABILITY sets how often shops appear in asteroid sectors. ASTEROID_SECTOR_REPLENISH_TIME_SEC controls whether mined-out asteroid sectors come back; the default of -1 means never.

To appear in the public server list, turn on ANNOUNCE_SERVER_TO_SERVERLIST and put your server's IP or hostname in HOST_NAME_TO_ANNOUNCE_TO_SERVER_LIST. SERVER_LIST_NAME takes up to 64 characters and SERVER_LIST_DESCRIPTION up to 128, and a tight, specific pitch attracts more players than a crammed one.

How do blueprints and community content work?

In StarMade, ships and stations are saved to the catalog as blueprints, and the server keeps that catalog for the whole universe. With ALLOW_UPLOAD_FROM_LOCAL_BLUEPRINTS on, players can upload designs they built on their own machines. BLUEPRINT_DEFAULT_PRIVATE decides whether new entries start private or public, and CATALOG_SLOTS_PER_PLAYER limits entries per player, with -1 meaning unlimited.

On public servers the real headache is blueprints edited outside the game. AUTO_KICK_MODIFIED_BLUEPRINT_USE, AUTO_BAN_ID_MODIFIED_BLUEPRINT_USE and REMOVE_MODIFIED_BLUEPRINTS let you kick or ban whoever spawns one, or delete the entry outright, while MODIFIED_BLUEPRINT_TOLERANCE allows a 10 percent deviation by default. With DEFAULT_BLUEPRINT_ENEMY_USE on, AI enemies may field designs from the catalog.

StarMade Dock is the community hub for thousands of ships and stations, plus templates, logic circuits, NPC faction packs and mods. Upload what you download through the file manager or SFTP; for mods, follow the author's install notes, check whether players need the same files, and take a backup first.

Admins, saves and how players join

The fastest way to add an admin on a StarMade server is running /add_admin with the player's name in the panel console; admin names are kept in admins.txt in the install folder. With USE_WHITELIST on, only names and IPs in whitelist.txt can join. Turning on both USE_STARMADE_AUTHENTICATION and REQUIRE_STARMADE_AUTHENTICATION forces every player to verify with an official StarMade account, so nobody can borrow a faction leader's name to slip in.

The server autosaves every SECTOR_AUTOSAVE_SEC seconds, 300 by default. Issuing /shutdown with a countdown in seconds gives players time to dock and lets the final save finish cleanly. For backups, the two folders that matter most are server-database, which is the universe itself, and blueprints, which holds saved designs.

Players add your server in StarMade's online play menu using the IP and port from your panel, or search its name if you announce it to the server list. The İstanbul location gives pilots in Türkiye and the surrounding region low latency.

How to Set Up a starmade Server

  1. 1

Choose a plan that matches your ambitions

Bronze 4GB suits a small crew with mid-size ships; if you are planning faction wars and capital ships, look between Gold and Platinum.

  2. 2

Check out and let the install finish

After payment the StarMade server files install automatically; the first boot creates server.cfg and the universe folder, all managed at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.

  3. 3

Stop the server and edit server.cfg

Set basics such as MAX_CLIENTS, THRUST_SPEED_LIMIT, ENEMY_SPAWNING and SERVER_LIST_NAME, and fill in the announce lines if the server will be public.

  4. 4

    Make yourself an admin

With the server running, use /add_admin with your player name in the panel console, and populate whitelist.txt if you are building a closed community.

  5. 5

    Upload ships and blueprints

Add your own designs or StarMade Dock downloads over SFTP, and switch on the modified-blueprint protections if strangers will be playing.

  6. 6

    Invite your pilots

Share the IP and port; players add the server in StarMade's online play menu and spawn into the starting sector.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before opening a StarMade universe: memory, blueprints, admin tools and joining.

How much does StarMade server hosting cost?
StarMade plans start at ₺240.00 per month ($6.00) and come in 7 sizes from 4 GB to 32 GB. Every one runs on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage; the tiers differ in memory, vCores and disk. A small crew can start at the entry plan and move up as the universe grows.
How much RAM does StarMade need?
4 GB is enough for a handful of players flying mid-size ships. Past ten players, with active factions and larger fleets, Gold 8GB is more comfortable. Capital ships with millions of blocks and crowded PvP battles call for Platinum or higher, because memory scales with loaded sectors and ship size.
Can I bring my own ships to the server?
Yes. With ALLOW_UPLOAD_FROM_LOCAL_BLUEPRINTS on, players can upload designs from single-player straight into the server catalog from inside the game. You can also drop blueprint files into the server's blueprints folder over SFTP. On a public server, we recommend enabling the modified-blueprint protections as well.
Can I add mods or StarMade Dock content?
StarMade Dock shares mods, NPC faction packs and configuration files, and you can upload them through the file manager or SFTP. Every mod installs differently, so follow the author's notes and check whether players need it on their side too. Backing up server-database before adding a mod keeps your universe safe.
How do players join my StarMade universe?
Players add a new server in StarMade's online play menu and enter the IP and port shown in your panel. With ANNOUNCE_SERVER_TO_SERVERLIST on, your server also appears in the public list. If the whitelist is enabled, the player's name must be in whitelist.txt.
How long does setup take?
Setup starts automatically as soon as payment is confirmed, so you are not waiting on a technician. The first boot generates server.cfg and the universe folder; after that, adjust your settings, add yourself with /add_admin and share the address.
How is my universe backed up?
Automatic backups copy your server files regularly, and for StarMade the folders that matter most are server-database and blueprints. The game's own autosave interval is set by SECTOR_AUTOSAVE_SEC. Taking a manual backup from the panel before adding a big mod or changing core settings lets you restore the universe quickly if something goes wrong.
What should I do if big ships make the server lag?
Keep THRUST_SPEED_LIMIT reasonable first, since extreme speeds strain physics. Lower SECTOR_INACTIVE_TIMEOUT so empty sectors deactivate sooner, and tune CHUNK_REQUEST_THREAD_POOL_SIZE_CPU to your vCore count. If lag persists during fleet battles, moving to Emerald for its extra vCores makes a real difference.
Can a rival faction knock my StarMade server offline?
Not with a traffic flood. Free DDoS protection comes with every plan and filters attacks at the network level before they reach the server, while StarMade's own NT_SPAM_PROTECT settings throttle floods of login attempts. A rival faction trying to take the server down in the middle of a war will not get far.
What happens to my universe if I upgrade?
Nothing is lost: moving to a higher plan keeps server-database, your blueprints and server.cfg exactly as they are, so the universe reopens where you left it. The need usually appears when players scatter across distant systems and capital ships start multiplying.
