Why TheCrewHost for Clusterio?

Features picked for what a cluster running several Factorio servers at once actually needs.

A Core per Instance

A single Factorio map's simulation leans heavily on one core; once Clusterio splits the factory into instances, each vCore can carry a separate map.

Controller and Web Interface

The controller creates, starts, stops and assigns instances to hosts, and its web interface, on port 8080 by default, lets you watch the whole cluster.

Official Plugin Set

Global Chat, Research Sync, Inventory Sync, Player Auth, Statistics Exporter and Subspace Storage link chat, research, inventories and items across servers.

Cluster-Wide Permissions

Make someone an admin, whitelist them or ban them once on the controller, and the change applies to every instance in the cluster.

Fast Saves and Loads

Each instance keeps its own save files, and Samsung 990 EVO Plus NVMe drives shorten autosaves and startup for large factories.

Clusterio server hosting at TheCrewHost has an entry price of ₺345.00 ($8.63) per month, and all 6 plans, 6 GB to 32 GB, run on Ryzen 9 9950X CPUs with DDR5 memory and NVMe SSDs. Clusterio is not a game: it is an open-source cluster manager for Factorio. A controller starts and stops several Factorio servers, called instances, from a web interface and manages players and plugins in one place. Plugins such as Subspace Storage move items between servers, and research and chat can be kept in sync. Your server is in İstanbul, so engineers in Türkiye connect with low latency. Each instance uses its own memory and core, and you can upgrade whenever the cluster grows.

What is Clusterio, and is it a game?

Clusterio is not a game; it is an open-source clustered server manager built for Factorio. Its purpose is to bring several Factorio servers under one structure and let them interact. Players still need their own copy of Factorio to play.

Clusterio has four core pieces. The controller is the center of the cluster and handles management through its web interface. A host is the machine that actually runs the Factorio servers. An instance is an individual game server, each with its own Factorio map. Ctl is the command-line tool for managing the cluster. A cluster can include any number of hosts on different machines, and each host can run several instances.

Out of the box Clusterio does not change gameplay; its real power comes from plugins. It supports Factorio 1.1 and 2.0 and runs on Node.js. People use it to split a massive factory across several maps, run servers with different rules on a shared player base, or organize community events.

How much RAM and how many cores does a Clusterio cluster need?

Our recommended floor for Clusterio is 6 GB, because the controller runs alongside several Factorio instances at once. Total memory is the sum of what every running instance uses plus the controller and host processes. Fresh maps are light, while a factory that has reached the late game can use several gigabytes on its own.

Cores matter especially with Clusterio. A single Factorio map's simulation depends heavily on one core, which is exactly why clustering exists. Each instance is a separate process, so instances run in parallel on different cores. Silver through Diamond have 4 vCores, Emerald has 6 and Xtreme has 12, so plan how many busy instances you run at the same time around that number.

You can stop idle instances from the web interface to free resources. On disk, each instance keeps its own saves, so the save folders grow with the instance count, and NVMe SSD storage keeps reading and writing those saves quick.

What do the Clusterio plugins do?

Plugins are what separate Clusterio from ordinary multi-server management. Subspace Storage lets you send items into a shared store through special chests and pull them out on another server, so one map can focus on mining while another handles production. Research Sync keeps technology progress in step across every server. Inventory Sync carries a player's inventory between servers.

Global Chat lets players on different instances talk to each other. Player Auth provides authentication across the cluster. Statistics Exporter produces Prometheus-compatible metrics so you can chart the health of the cluster.

Plugins install as npm packages and are then added to the controller; if you run hosts on separate machines, repeat the install on each of them. On the Factorio side, plugins that include a mod component need the clusterio_lib mod. If you get stuck during installation, just message our support team.

How are players, admins and mods managed?

User management in Clusterio happens centrally on the controller and applies to every instance. With ctl commands you can create a user, promote them to admin, add them to the whitelist, or ban them with a reason. Bulk imports are supported for long lists, which is a big help for communities moving over from an existing server.

Mods are organized into mod packs in the web interface. Clusterio has no direct integration with the Factorio mod portal, so you upload the mod files yourself using the panel's file manager or SFTP. Mod settings are handled from the mod pack's configuration screen.

Saves are kept per instance. You can import an existing Factorio save into an instance and bring its player data into the cluster. One important point: some cluster changes are only written to the database on a graceful shutdown, so always stop the controller cleanly instead of killing it. The panel's automatic backups add another layer of safety on top.

How do players connect to Clusterio instances?

To players, every instance is an ordinary Factorio server. They join from Factorio's multiplayer menu using the connect-to-address option with the instance's IP address and port. The Clusterio web interface also offers connection shortcuts for instances.

Ports are the part to plan carefully. Each instance uses its own UDP game port; Factorio's default is 34197, and a second instance on the same machine has to use a different one. The web interface also needs the controller's HTTP port to be reachable. We recommend agreeing on how many instances you plan and the ports they need with our support team before you set things up.

With the server in İstanbul, players in Türkiye connect with low latency, and those joining from Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus generally get a good connection. When a player moves from one instance to another with Inventory Sync enabled, their inventory travels with them.

How to Set Up a Clusterio Server

  1. 1

Choose a plan for the number of instances you need

Silver 6GB is enough to link two small maps; if you will run three or more busy instances at once, look at plans with more vCores.

  2. 2

Complete payment and let setup start automatically

Once payment clears, your server is prepared automatically and you reach files, console and backups through gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.

  3. 3

Agree on ports with our support team

Every instance needs its own UDP port and the web interface uses the controller's HTTP port; tell us how many instances you plan and we will map it out together.

  4. 4

Open the controller web interface and create instances

Create instances in the web interface or with ctl, assign them to a host and give each a save; existing Factorio saves can be imported.

  5. 5

    Install plugins and mod packs

Add plugins such as Subspace Storage and Research Sync to the controller, upload required mods into a mod pack, then restart the instances.

  6. 6

Set admins and whitelist, then invite players

Make yourself and your team admins, fill the whitelist if you need one, and share each instance's IP and port for players to join in Factorio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about building and running a Factorio cluster with Clusterio.

How much does Clusterio hosting cost?
Clusterio plans start at $8.63 (₺345.00) per month, across 6 tiers with memory from 6 GB to 32 GB. Each includes a Ryzen 9 9950X, DDR5, NVMe SSD, free DDoS protection and automatic backups; what sets the tiers apart is memory, vCore count and disk space.
Is Clusterio a game? Do I need Factorio?
Clusterio is not a game but an open-source tool for managing Factorio servers as a cluster. Every instance in the cluster is a Factorio server, and players need their own copy of Factorio to connect. Clusterio supports Factorio 1.1 and 2.0.
Which plan should I pick?
Silver 6GB is enough to try Clusterio and link two small maps. Total memory grows with the sum of running instances, and because a single Factorio map mostly uses one core, your vCore count decides how many busy instances can run at once. For three or more large instances, we recommend Emerald 16GB or Xtreme 32GB.
How long does setup take?
Your server is prepared automatically as soon as payment is confirmed. After that you open the controller's web interface, create your instances, add plugins and upload saves. Our support team walks you through Clusterio-specific steps such as port planning.
How do players connect to the instances?
For players, each instance is a normal Factorio server. They use the connect-to-address option in Factorio's multiplayer menu and enter the instance's IP address and port. Since every instance has its own UDP port, just tell players which map lives on which port.
Can I use plugins and mods?
Yes. Plugins such as Global Chat, Research Sync, Inventory Sync, Player Auth, Statistics Exporter and Subspace Storage install as npm packages and are added to the controller. Factorio mods are managed as mod packs in the web interface; with no mod portal integration, you upload the files via the file manager or SFTP.
Do admin and whitelist settings apply to every server?
Yes, user management in Clusterio is central. When you make a player an admin, whitelist them or ban them on the controller, it applies to every instance in the cluster. Bulk import is also supported for long lists, which saves time for communities moving from another server.
How do backups work?
Each instance keeps its own saves, and the panel takes automatic backups on top of that; you can make manual backups whenever you like and download them over SFTP. Because some cluster changes only reach the database on a clean shutdown, always stop the controller gracefully instead of killing it.
Is the cluster DDoS-protected, and can it grow into a bigger plan?
Yes, every Clusterio plan includes free DDoS protection at the network level with nothing to configure. As you add instances or your factories grow, you can move to a higher plan at any time, and your instances, saves and plugin settings stay where they are.
