The groundwork for running a crowded Space Engineers community with plugins.
Upload plugin archives downloaded from torchapi.com into the Plugins folder with the file manager or SFTP, then restart the server to load them.
Torch's built-in commands let you save with !save, schedule a restart with !restart, list loaded plugins with !plugins and check how long the server has been up with !uptime.
The Concealment plugin dynamically pauses grids far from players. With physics calculated only for grids in active play, crowded worlds win back sim speed.
Set block limits per faction, grid or player with BlockLimiter, and restore grids deleted by mistake or lost to a bug with ALE Grid Backup.
Torch does not remove the official server's physics load; on busy bases, sim speed still depends on per-core speed. The Ryzen 9 9950X is a solid base to carry it.
Torch refusing to start after a game update, clashing plugins or sinking sim speed: write to our team by ticket, Discord, WhatsApp, phone or live chat.
A Space Engineers server with the Torch plugin layer starts at $11.00 (₺440.00) a month at TheCrewHost, and all 5 plans between 8 GB and 32 GB include a Ryzen 9 9950X, DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. Torch is the open-source successor to SE Server Extender, a management layer that wraps the official dedicated server. It runs the same world files and adds a plugin system plus chat commands prefixed with !. With torchapi.com plugins such as Essentials, Concealment, BlockLimiter and ALE Grid Backup, you keep a busy community server in order. Because the server sits in İstanbul, players across Türkiye fly, weld and fight with low latency.
Torch is an open-source layer that wraps the Space Engineers dedicated server, built as the successor to SE Server Extender. It does not change the game itself: Keen's official server still runs underneath, the world files are the same, and players connect with the regular Space Engineers client. What it adds is plugin loading, chat commands and live management of in-game entities.
Who should choose Torch? If you run a public server with more than 10 players, factions or a PvP focus, plugins quickly become essential. Automatically cleaning up abandoned grids, capping blocks per player and freezing distant grids to recover sim speed are simply not possible on vanilla.
The price is maintenance. When Keen ships an update, Torch and the plugins you use also need to be updated for it, and the server may not start in the meantime. If you want a plugin-free server for a handful of friends that boots cleanly after every update, our vanilla Space Engineers page is the better fit.
The plugin repository on torchapi.com has plenty of options, but most community servers start with a few core ones. Essentials is the official plugin that adds a large set of admin tools and chat commands; most admins install it first for cleanup, player and grid management.
Concealment dynamically pauses grids far from players and can be tuned by distance and by whether production blocks are running. It is the most widely used way to recover sim speed on crowded worlds. BlockLimiter lets you set block limits per faction, grid and player, which keeps the giant-ship arms race in check on PvP servers. Quantum Hangar lets players store grids in a server-side hangar and bring them back later, while ALE Grid Backup helps you restore lost grids. SEDiscordBridge links server chat to a Discord channel.
Add plugins one at a time and watch the console after each one. Two plugins doing the same job can conflict, and disabling the most recent addition is the quickest way to find the cause when something breaks.
Our Torch server shares the same hardware baseline as vanilla, with plans starting at Gold 8GB. Torch itself adds little overhead; memory is still consumed mainly by the world, planets, grids and Workshop mods. Most plugins are light, but a long plugin list combined with a big player base is a good reason to leave headroom.
Communities that choose Torch tend to be larger. For faction servers with 10 to 16 players, Emerald 16GB and its 6 vCores are a good balance point. For planetary, heavily modded worlds with more than 20 players, Xtreme 32GB takes memory worries off the table entirely.
To be straight with you: more RAM does not reduce physics load. Much of the Space Engineers simulation depends on per-core speed, and Torch does not change that. Torch's real advantage is that Concealment and cleanup tools let you shrink the load at the source. Manage the load with plugins first, and only then move to a bigger plan.
In a Torch install, the server's configuration lives in the Instance folder, which holds SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg and the world saves. Torch's own settings sit in Torch.cfg, plugin archives go in the Plugins folder, and plugins usually generate their own settings files on first launch. Torch's desktop interface is Windows-only; in the web panel you work through the console, files and chat commands instead.
Torch's built-in commands use the ! prefix in chat. !save saves the world, !restart schedules a restart and !restart cancel calls it off, !stop shuts the server down, !plugins lists loaded plugins, !uptime shows uptime and !ver shows the Torch version. !notify flashes an announcement in the middle of every player's screen, which is perfect for warning people before a restart.
If the server will not start after a Keen update, the cause is usually Torch or a plugin that has not been updated for the new version yet. Back up before updating, check for current plugin versions and, if needed, temporarily pull the problem plugin out of the Plugins folder and start the server without it.
Nothing about Torch has to be installed on the player side. Plugins run on the server side; players connect with the normal Space Engineers client, from the server list on the Join Game screen or through an IP:port added in the Steam server browser. The default game port is UDP 27016, and you share whichever port your panel shows.
Workshop mods behave exactly as on vanilla: the server downloads them and connecting players get them automatically. Plugins are never downloaded to players, so you can add as many server-side features as you like without making anyone's first join longer.
It is good practice to list the plugins you run and the commands players can use in your server description. Since plugins like Essentials can open commands to regular players too, posting your rules and command list in a Discord channel cuts down day-one questions. With SEDiscordBridge installed, in-game chat is mirrored to Discord, so members who are offline can still follow what is happening on the server.
Gold 8GB suits a small plugin server; consider Emerald 16GB for a 10–16 player faction server and Xtreme 32GB for a large public world.
After payment, Torch and the official dedicated server files install automatically; the files are large, so the first boot takes a while.
Stop the server and set the server name, player cap, PCU settings and Administrators list in SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg inside the Instance folder.
Download plugins such as Essentials, Concealment or BlockLimiter from torchapi.com, upload them to Plugins and restart the server.
Edit the plugin settings files created after the first launch, and tune Concealment distances and block limits to your community's play style.
Share the server name or IP:port and pin the rules and command list in Discord; players connect with the regular game client.
