What actually matters when you keep a vanilla SCP:SL server running week after week.
Holding your server_tickrate depends on single-core speed, and Ryzen 9 9950X cores keep the simulation smooth when Surface fills up and the Alpha Warhead countdown starts.
Open the per-port config_gameplay.txt through the file manager or SFTP and set max_players, friendly fire, MTF and Chaos wave limits and intercom behavior exactly how your community likes it.
Define owner, admin and moderator roles in config_remoteadmin.txt with their own badges, colors and kick_power values, then assign staff by SteamID64@steam.
LabAPI has shipped with the dedicated server since version 14.1 and is Northwood's own plugin loader, the natural first step if you want light admin tools without abandoning vanilla gameplay.
Broke a config while tuning waves? Restore it from the automatic backups or a snapshot you took in the panel, and keep your own copy of the config folder over SFTP.
Stuck on a verification request, a port question or a Remote Admin permission? Reach the team through tickets, Discord, WhatsApp, phone or live chat at any hour.
SCP: Secret Laboratory server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 (about $6.00) per month and gives you Northwood's official dedicated server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage, installed automatically as a clean vanilla build. The machine sits in İstanbul, so players in Türkiye and nearby regions get a responsive connection during door fights, elevator escapes and Tesla gate timing. You control round balance through config_gameplay.txt and your staff through config_remoteadmin.txt, and this page walks through Northwood's verification process for the public list. If you plan to run the EXILED plugin framework, our separate SCP:SL - Exiled page covers that setup.
You get the official SCP: Secret Laboratory dedicated server that Northwood Studios distributes through SteamCMD (app 996560), launched and supervised by LocalAdmin, Northwood's console wrapper. This page is about the unmodified, vanilla experience: rounds play out the way Northwood designed them, and Class-D, scientists, facility guards and SCPs all start under the same rules every player already knows.
As the owner, you shape the skeleton of every round. The team_respawn_queue setting decides who spawns in which order, separate values control how often MTF and Chaos Insurgency waves arrive and how large they are, and friendly fire is simply a line in your config. All of it lives in a folder named after the server's port, under SCP Secret Laboratory/config/<port>/.
A vanilla server suits communities that love the game as shipped and want fair rounds with clear rules. If you would rather hand players custom roles, new items or entirely different game modes, the SCP:SL - Exiled plan built around the EXILED framework is the better fit.
Northwood's own technical guide lists 3 GB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 4 GB of storage as the minimum for a plugin-free server capped at 25 players. That makes the 4 GB Bronze plan a comfortable home for a 20 to 25 player vanilla server rather than a tight squeeze.
Three things push memory up: raising max_players, long rounds and LabAPI plugins. Planning to go past 30 slots or to add a handful of plugins? Silver or Gold gives you breathing room. Event servers that regularly pass 40 players are where Platinum starts to make sense.
On the CPU side, core count matters less than per-core speed, because the game loop does its work tick by tick and a crowd on Surface makes each tick heavier. Storage is never the bottleneck here; the server files take up only a few GB. If you outgrow your plan, upgrade from the panel whenever you like and your files stay where they are.
The public SCP:SL server list only shows servers that Northwood has verified. An unverified server works perfectly well, but players have to reach it through Direct Connect by typing the IP and port. No hosting company can grant verification; Northwood's team makes that call.
Before you apply, fill in three fields in config_gameplay.txt: server_name, which is what the list displays; contact_email, a working inbox Northwood can reach; and serverinfo_pastebin_id, the ID of a public, never-expiring Pastebin that holds your server info text. Then send your server name, IP and port to [email protected]. Northwood's checks are known to take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks.
Verified servers must follow the Community Server Guidelines, formerly called the Verified Server Rules. Any change that affects gameplay has to be reported through the modded flag, while tools that leave gameplay alone, such as admin utilities or timed broadcasts, can use the transparently_modded_server flag instead. To hide a test server from the list, type !private in the console, and !public to bring it back.
The whole permission system lives in config_remoteadmin.txt, and players with access open the Remote Admin panel in game with the M key. In the Members section, each line ties one account to one role, for example '- 76561198000000000@steam: owner'. Staff who sign in through Discord can be added with the @discord suffix instead.
Every role carries its own properties. The _badge value is the text shown in game, _color sets the badge color, _cover decides whether it overrides global badges, _hidden hides the badge by default, _kick_power is how much authority the role has, and _required_kick_power is what someone needs to kick that role. Giving moderators a lower kick_power than admins prevents staff from kicking each other in the middle of an argument.
Permissions are then handed out with lines like '- AdminChat: [owner, admin, moderator]'. The file is extremely picky about spacing; a missing space around a dash or bracket can silently disable a whole role. Keep a copy before editing and delete the placeholder IDs that ship in the default file.
The settings that change the feel of a round sit in config_gameplay.txt. friendly_fire and friendly_fire_multiplier handle team damage, maximum_MTF_respawn_amount and maximum_CI_respawn_amount cap wave sizes, intercom_cooldown controls the intercom, and warhead_tminus_start_duration sets the Alpha Warhead countdown. Use afk_time to kick players who stall rounds and player_list_title to brand the player list.
The most common headache is a version mismatch. When Northwood ships an update, the server and every client must run the same game version, so players on a new build cannot join a server that has not updated yet. Watch the patch announcements and restart the server so its files are refreshed.
The second classic problem is config syntax: wrong indentation or a missing space can quietly send a value back to its default. Watch the console after every change and roll back from a backup if something looks off. The default game port is 7777 over UDP; on TheCrewHost, use whatever port the panel shows for your server.
Bronze covers a 20 to 25 player vanilla server; start on Silver or Gold if you expect bigger rounds or want to add LabAPI plugins.
Once payment clears, the server installs itself. Log in to gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net and watch LocalAdmin boot the server and start listening on its port in the console.
Fill in server_name, contact_email, max_players and serverinfo_pastebin_id, set friendly fire and respawn waves to suit your community, then restart the server.
Add yourself as owner and your team with fitting roles in config_remoteadmin.txt using SteamID64@steam, then press M in game to confirm the permissions work.
Send your verification request to Northwood. Until it is approved, players join through Direct Connect with your IP and port, so pin that address in your Discord.
