What you actually need underneath a code-driven GTA V roleplay server.
Upload server-side Node.js packages to packages and your CEF interface and client scripts to client_packages over SFTP. The maps folder is ready for JSON map files too.
Edit maxplayers, name, stream-distance, voice-chat, server-side-weapons-only-mode, csharp and the rest directly. Changes take effect the next time you restart the server from the panel.
Players pull client_packages from the server's HTTP port on first join. NVMe storage and unlimited traffic keep that wait short, even for heavy CEF interfaces.
Server-side JavaScript runs on a single event loop, so one heavy computation stalls every player. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high single-core speed gives that loop room to breathe.
Popular roleplay servers attract attacks from rival communities. Free network-level protection filters malicious traffic, and connection-limit settings in conf.json help from the inside.
packages, client_packages, maps and conf.json are backed up automatically. Take a manual snapshot before shipping a new system so you can roll back straight away if it misbehaves.
RAGE:MP server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at $6.00 per month (₺240.00), with 4 GB to 32 GB of RAM for running a RAGE Multiplayer server for GTA V with your own gamemode. Server-side logic lives in the packages folder, written in Node.js or through the C# bridge, while the interface and client code go in client_packages. You edit conf.json directly through the panel file manager or SFTP. Because every player downloads your client_packages on first join, unlimited traffic genuinely matters here. The server is hosted in İstanbul, giving GTA V roleplay communities in Türkiye, the Middle East and the Caucasus a short route to your world.
RAGE Multiplayer, usually shortened to RAGE:MP, is a multiplayer platform for GTA V best known for code-driven roleplay servers. Players launch their own legitimate copy of GTA V through the RAGE:MP client and connect to your server, where your gamemode controls everything: character creation, jobs, inventory, vehicle ownership, housing and the economy.
The platform does not impose a framework. You can start from open-source sample gamemodes, but most serious roleplay servers write their own code. That makes RAGE:MP a fit for teams that know JavaScript, TypeScript or C#, or work with someone who does. Interfaces are built on CEF, an embedded browser engine, using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, so anyone with web development experience can design a phone, inventory or login screen without learning a new UI toolkit.
The server software is free and needs no separate license key; install the files, edit conf.json and it starts. You can also run freeroam, racing or deathmatch modes, but most of the community is focused on roleplay.
Code on a RAGE:MP server is split across three places, and knowing what runs where is half of debugging. The packages folder is server-side: each subfolder loads as its own package, with index.js as its entry point. This is where you manage players, vehicles, markers and your database connection, and where calls such as mp.events.addCommand register commands.
The client_packages folder runs on each player's PC. Its files are downloaded when a player connects, and it holds CEF interfaces, camera and HUD logic and key listeners. Everything in it is shipped to players, so never put database passwords or secret keys in client_packages.
The maps folder loads JSON map files into the world, and the plugins folder takes additional server plugins. If you want C#, enable the C# bridge with the csharp setting in conf.json. Hybrid projects that write server logic in C# and the client and UI in JavaScript are common. If you rely on npm packages, upload the node_modules folder together with your package, since the server resolves modules the usual Node.js way.
conf.json is the JSON file that controls how your RAGE:MP server behaves, and a few fields deserve attention before the first launch. name is what appears in the server list, and square brackets add a tag such as [Serious Roleplay]. maxplayers sets your slots (default 100), gamemode sets the mode label shown in the browser, and language sets the flag next to your name. Setting announce to true publishes the server to the master list.
stream-distance (default 500) controls how far away entities stream in for players; lowering it in crowded city areas reduces load on both server and clients. voice-chat turns on built-in voice. server-side-weapons-only-mode syncs only weapons given by the server, which defeats simple weapon-spawning cheats.
For quality and abuse control, disallow-multiple-connections-per-ip blocks several connections from one address, while max-ping, min-fps and max-packet-loss set limits for players on poor connections. Be careful with enable-http-security: according to the RAGE:MP wiki, it can cause client packages to download incompletely on first connect in some versions, and the recommendation is to leave it off.
RAGE:MP uses two ports: the main game port (22005 by default, over UDP and TCP) and the port right after it (22006 by default). That second port is an HTTP server that hands client_packages to players. A connecting player first downloads your client packages from it, then enters the game. When players hang on the download screen, the usual cause is that the second port is unreachable, so check with our support team that both ports are open.
Large client packages, meaning high-resolution CEF images, audio files and fonts, stretch out the first join. resources-compression-level compresses the transfer, and fastdl-host lets clients fetch packages from an external URL instead. In practice, optimizing your images usually makes a bigger difference than either setting.
Traffic is unlimited at TheCrewHost, so hundreds of players re-downloading changed packages after an update costs you nothing extra. If you update often, batching changes into fewer releases still saves your players from sitting through repeated downloads.
The RAGE:MP server itself is light; memory is driven by your gamemode and the number of entities it creates. For development and a small freeroam server, 4 GB is enough. A roleplay gamemode that keeps player data in memory and spawns hundreds of vehicles and markers grows quickly with player count, and for a roleplay server around 100 players, Silver or Gold is a more comfortable starting point.
On the CPU side, Node.js server code runs on a single event loop. Synchronous file reads, large loops and heavy JSON work block that loop and freeze every player at once, so writing database access asynchronously and breaking scheduled jobs into chunks is more effective than buying a bigger plan. Projects built on the C# bridge can spread work across multiple cores, which is where the 6 and 12 vCores on the top tiers start to matter.
The database, usually MySQL or MariaDB, normally lives outside the game server, and you can run it on a TheCrewHost VDS. That keeps the game server's memory dedicated to the game itself.
Bronze is fine for development; Silver or Gold suits a live roleplay server. Once payment is confirmed, installation starts automatically and the server appears in your panel.
Open conf.json in the file manager and fill in name, maxplayers, gamemode and language. Set announce to true if you want to appear in the master list.
Put server code in its own folder under packages, and client code plus your CEF interface in client_packages, over SFTP. Include node_modules for any npm dependencies.
If your gamemode uses MySQL, add the connection details to your server-side config. The database can live on a separate machine, such as a TheCrewHost VDS.
Start from the panel and check the console for clean package loading. Any server-side JavaScript error shows up there with its file and line number.
Players enter the IP:port from your panel in the RAGE:MP client's direct connect option, or find your server in the master list when announce is enabled.
