The file access, permission system and hardware you need to run an MTA:SA server under a heavy Lua load.
Edit servername, maxplayers, password, fpslimit, bandwidth_reduction and more from the file manager, and list the resources that start at boot with resource entries in the same file.
Add accounts and resources to the Everyone, Moderator, SuperModerator and Admin groups and toggle rights such as command.kick per group; Admin accounts are also protected by serial authorization.
Roleplay, race, DM, derby or freeroam, every mode is a resource folder with a meta.xml. Upload it as a folder or zip, then bring it live with refresh and start in the console.
Most Lua work on an MTA server runs on the main thread, so the high clock speed of the Ryzen 9 9950X keeps a busy roleplay server smooth even with thousands of objects and vehicles.
Players download client files over the HTTP port, and NVMe storage helps serve large model and texture packs quickly; you can also offload downloads to an external web server with httpdownloadurl.
With ase enabled, your server shows up in the MTA server browser using a UDP port 123 above the game port. Free DDoS protection covers all three ports.
MTA server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 per month (about $6.00), with 4 GB to 32 GB of RAM running Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas on a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe SSD storage in Istanbul. MTA:SA is an open-source multiplayer mod for GTA San Andreas, and every game mode is built from resources written in Lua. You configure the server in mtaserver.conf, manage admin rights in acl.xml and upload roleplay, race, DM or freeroam resources over SFTP. Players in Türkiye connect with low latency thanks to the Istanbul location, and free DDoS protection and automatic backups are included on every plan.
Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas, or MTA:SA, is an open-source mod that turns GTA San Andreas into a multiplayer platform. Players only need their own copy of GTA San Andreas and the free MTA client. On the server side, everything runs as packages called resources, written in Lua.
MTA has had a strong community in Türkiye for many years. The most common server type is roleplay, built around jobs, houses, car dealerships and faction systems. Race servers rotating race and DM maps, derby and hunter arenas, freeroam and stunt servers, gang wars and zombie survival modes are popular too.
The default resource pack that ships with the server gives you a head start: the admin resource for moderation, game modes like race, play and freeroam, and the editor for building maps. You can write your own mode from scratch, use resources shared by the community or combine both. If you install a ready-made roleplay mode, make sure the source is trustworthy; a malicious resource can harm your server by requesting excessive rights in acl.xml.
mtaserver.conf is the main config file in the server's mods/deathmatch folder. servername is the name in the browser, maxplayers the slot count (32 by default) and password the join password. serverport is the UDP port players connect to, 22003 by default, and httpport is the TCP port for client file downloads, 22005 by default. With ase enabled, the server announces itself to the server browser using a UDP port 123 above the game port, which is 22126 by default.
Performance-related settings live here too. fpslimit caps player frame rates (74 by default), bandwidth_reduction chooses between none, medium and maximum, and player_sync_interval sets how often player positions sync. minclientversion lets you lock out old clients, and enablesd turns on special anti-cheat detections.
resource entries define which resources start at boot, with startup and protected attributes. auth_serial_groups protects the Admin group with serial authorization by default. backup_path, backup_interval and backup_copies configure MTA's own backups of some core server files; by default it keeps ten copies taken every three days.
The access control list in acl.xml decides who can do what on an MTA server. It has two building blocks: groups and ACLs. Groups contain objects, accounts as user.name and resources as resource.name, while ACLs switch rights on or off, whether commands like command.kick, functions like function.restartResource or general rights like general.ModifyOtherObjects. Everyone, Moderator, SuperModerator, Admin, Console and RPC groups exist by default.
The quickest way to make yourself admin is to create an account with the addaccount command in the server console and add a user.yourname object to the Admin group in acl.xml. If you edit the file while the server is running, it needs to be reloaded for changes to apply. Once you log in with the login command in game, open the admin resource's panel with the P key.
Resources need rights too. Some resources request special rights through an aclrequest section in meta.xml, and nothing is granted until you approve it with the aclrequest console command. Granting only the rights a resource genuinely needs, rather than blanket admin access, protects your server, especially with roleplay modes from third parties. Thanks to auth_serial_groups, logins to an Admin account from a new device are held until you authorize them.
Each resource is a folder or zip file under mods/deathmatch/resources, and meta.xml is its core. Script entries in meta.xml are marked server, client or shared with the type attribute; file entries declare the models, textures and sounds sent to players, and map entries point to map files. Grouping resources in bracketed folders such as [gamemodes] or [rp] keeps things organized on servers with hundreds of resources.
After uploading a new resource, type refresh in the console so the server picks it up, then start it. restart and stop let you manage resources without restarting the server. If you do not want client scripts cached on players' disks, set the cache attribute to false in meta.xml, and you can compile your Lua files with MTA's official compiler to protect your code.
For data, MTA uses two built-in databases: accounts live in internal.db, and data written with executeSQLQuery goes to registry.db. Busy roleplay servers usually connect to SQLite or MySQL through the dbConnect function. If you plan to use MySQL, you can run the database on a separate VDS or discuss access options with our support team.
The MTA:SA server is lightweight. Memory is driven by the number of running resources, the objects and vehicles on your maps and how much data your scripts keep in memory. Bronze 4GB covers almost every race, DM, derby and freeroam server, plus mid-sized roleplay servers of up to 100 players.
If you are aiming for maps packed with thousands of objects, hundreds of vehicles, a large MySQL-backed roleplay mode and 100 to 200 players, Silver 6GB leaves more comfortable headroom. For servers above 200 players with a heavy script load, Gold 8GB is a safe ceiling. Plans above that are more than MTA needs.
Most MTA performance problems come from scripts that tie up the CPU, not from a lack of RAM. Open the ipb resource in game to see how much CPU time each resource uses; timers firing constantly and events triggered every frame are usually the first suspects. Checking ipb output before upgrading often solves the problem for far less money.
Players can search your server name in the MTA client's server browser, type your IP address and port into Quick Connect, or click a link in the mtasa://IP:22003 format. Sharing that mtasa link on Discord and your website lets new players join in one click. To appear in the browser, ase must be enabled and the UDP port 123 above your game port must be reachable.
On first join, players download the client files of your resources over the HTTP port. Large vehicle models, textures and music files can stretch that download out; shrinking file sizes and, if needed, serving files from an external web server via httpdownloadurl cuts the wait.
If you run a passworded test server, share the password only with your team. Istanbul hosting gives players in Türkiye low latency, which makes collisions and finishing orders on race and DM maps feel fairer.
Bronze 4GB covers race, DM, freeroam and roleplay up to 100 players; look at Silver 6GB for large roleplay modes using thousands of objects and MySQL.
Once payment clears, the MTA:SA server files install automatically with the default resource pack, and your panel shows the console, file manager and SFTP details.
Set servername, maxplayers and password, and check that serverport and httpport match the ports assigned to you in the panel.
Run addaccount in the console, add user.yourname to the Admin group in acl.xml, then log in with login in game and open the admin panel with P.
Upload resource folders to the resources directory over SFTP, run refresh and start in the console, and add permanent ones to mtaserver.conf with startup enabled.
Pin your mtasa://IP:port link in Discord; players join in one click or find you in the server browser.
