Full access to server settings, the package system and client file delivery for the newly revived JC3:MP.
name, description, maxPlayers, password, maxTickRate and logLevel live in config.json next to the Server binary, and the server writes a default file on first launch if none exists.
Each game mode is a folder under packages with package.json and main.js, linked to other packages via jcmp_dependencies, while its client_package folder is sent to players automatically.
The August 2026 1.0.8 update is required on both clients and servers, and 1.0.7 and 1.0.8 cannot connect to each other; our support team can help confirm your server files are current.
restart_package reloads a single package, restart reloads the whole server, and perf or stats prints a tick summary, all typed straight into the panel console.
Players pull client_package files over httpPort; if that port fails to bind, the server still starts but joiners cannot fetch packages. NVMe storage keeps those downloads quick.
Game traffic, Steam queries and package downloads each use their own port, and free DDoS protection filters attack traffic mixed into any of them before it reaches your server.
Just Cause 3 Multiplayer server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 per month (about $6.00), with 4 GB to 32 GB of RAM running the JC3:MP dedicated server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe SSD storage in Istanbul. The mod first shipped in 2017 and went quiet for years, but the 1.0.7 and 1.0.8 updates brought it back into active development in 2026. You configure the server through config.json and add your own game modes as JavaScript packages in the packages folder. A fresh server is playable right away with the bundled chat, freeroam and spawn-menu packages, and free DDoS protection and automatic backups come with every plan.
Just Cause 3 Multiplayer, or JC3:MP, is a free fan-made mod that turns the island of Medici from Just Cause 3 into a multiplayer sandbox. It was developed by nanos GbR, published on Steam together with Square Enix and released on July 20, 2017. The Steam page pitches up to hundreds of players per server, with racing, deathmatch and skydiving alongside game modes the community designs itself.
After the 1.0.5 update in 2017, the mod sat still for years. That changed in 2026. Update 1.0.7 in May got the client running again on Windows 11 and Steam Deck, refreshed the UI and moved to the non-Denuvo build of Just Cause 3. Update 1.0.8 in August brought the server forward too, moved connections to Steam's modern networking system, restored server banners and rewrote most of the sync code.
So JC3:MP is moving again. You can run wingsuit and grapple stunt races, vehicle and aircraft chases, group freeroam chaos, or event nights built entirely around rules you script yourself. News and documentation now live at just-cause.mp.
The JC3:MP server reads config.json from the folder that contains the Server binary, and writes a default file on first launch if it is missing. name sets the title in the server browser, description the text underneath, maxPlayers the connection cap (32 by default) and password the join password; an empty password means a public server.
On the network side, host is the bind address, port carries game traffic (4200 by default), queryPort handles Steam queries (4201) and httpPort serves package downloads to players (4203). steamPort (4202) is written into the default file, but Steam initialization uses port and queryPort. Setting announce to true lists the server through Steam, which requires a reachable public IPv4 address.
maxTickRate caps the server tick rate (60 by default) and logLevel sets log verbosity. minNetworkVersion exists to reject older clients and is best left alone. The requiredDLC array takes Steam AppIDs that players must own, such as 400551 for Sky Fortress or 400490 for Mech Land Assault. If you point logo at a local PNG file, the server uploads it on startup and uses it as your banner in the browser.
Every JC3:MP game mode is a package. The server checks the packages folder first, and if it contains even one subfolder, only that tree is loaded. If packages is empty or missing, the bundled chat, freeroam and spawn-menu packages from data/example-server-packages take over. freeroam provides passive mode, weather, time and groups, and depends on the other two.
The easiest way to start your own mode is to copy those three packages into packages and create a new folder next to them. A server package has a package.json and a main script: name is the package id, main is an optional entry file and jcmp_dependencies lists packages that must load first. The nested client_package folder is the client code players download, and the name in its package.json must match the server package. Interfaces are written in HTML and JavaScript inside the ui folder of client_package and rendered in game through CEF.
The server does not watch files for changes. After updating a package, type restart_package followed by its name in the console; connected players keep their old client files until they reconnect. jcmp.network, introduced with 1.0.8, is the recommended API for events that cross between server, client and UI.
The JC3:MP server renders nothing and is relatively light. Memory depends on player count, the vehicles and objects being synced at once, and what your packages actually do. For a server running the bundled freeroam packages at the standard 32 slots, Bronze 4GB is enough.
If you are writing your own racing, deathmatch or event packages and raising maxPlayers, Silver 6GB gives you more comfortable room. Communities chasing big player counts at mass events, or running heavy packages that store data, have a safe ceiling with Gold 8GB. Plans above that are more than JC3:MP needs, and most of the capacity would go unused.
Because 1.0.8 rewrote much of the sync code, resource use may differ from older builds, so rather than trusting numbers blindly, watch the tick summary with the perf command in the console. Leaving maxTickRate at the default 60 is right for most servers. On the CPU side, the high clock speed of the Ryzen 9 9950X helps keep the tick steady when the server is full.
Players need to own Just Cause 3 on Steam and install the free Just Cause 3: Multiplayer Mod client. Since 1.0.7 the client works with the default Just Cause 3 release branch, so anyone who opted into the lastrelease branch has to switch back. Once the client is running, players find you by name and banner in the server browser.
To appear in the browser, set announce to true in config.json. Players download your packages over httpPort as they join; if that port cannot bind, the server still starts but players cannot fetch packages and the join fails. Anyone missing a DLC listed in requiredDLC cannot enter either, so mention DLC requirements in your server description.
The most common connection problem is a version mismatch: clients on 1.0.8 cannot join 1.0.7 servers, and clients on 1.0.7 cannot join 1.0.8 servers. If players cannot get in, check that both sides are on 1.0.8 first. Players in Türkiye glide across Medici with low latency, since the server runs in Istanbul.
Bronze 4GB covers the bundled freeroam packages at 32 slots; choose Silver 6GB or Gold 8GB if you will write your own packages and host crowded events.
Once payment clears, the JC3:MP dedicated server files install automatically and your panel shows the console, file manager and SFTP details.
Fill in name, description, maxPlayers and password, match the port to the one assigned in the panel, and set announce to true to appear in the browser.
Copy chat, freeroam and spawn-menu from data/example-server-packages into packages, then upload your own package next to them over SFTP.
Point logo at a PNG file to upload your browser banner, and add the matching Steam AppIDs to requiredDLC if your mode uses DLC vehicles or gear.
Make sure the server and your players are on 1.0.8; players open the free JC3:MP client on Steam and find you in the server browser.
