The Apex Legends codebase is large and CPU-hungry, which is why R5Reloaded plans on our side start at 8 GB of memory.
On large maps such as Kings Canyon, World's Edge or Olympus, player movement, hit registration and ring logic all run on the server. The Ryzen 9 9950X handles that load with high clock speed.
Set team structure with max_players, max_teams and max_team_players, control respawns, ammo and shields in the playlist file, and change weapon properties through KVFileOverrides.
Enable encrypted remote admin with rcon_password and a Base64 rcon_key, and restrict RCON access to addresses you trust with sv_rcon_whitelistaddress.
The project exposes the game's scripting language. Upload mod files over SFTP to try new game modes, weapon tuning or custom content packs on your own server.
Public lobbies listed in the server browser can attract attacks. DDoS protection filters that traffic and reduces the risk of everyone dropping in the middle of a match.
Large game files and content paks load quickly from NVMe. Automatic backups plus manual panel backups keep your playlist file and RCON settings safe.
Your own R5Reloaded server starts at $11.00 a month (₺440.00) at TheCrewHost, with 8 GB of DDR5 memory, a Ryzen 9 9950X and NVMe storage in our İstanbul datacenter. R5Reloaded is an unofficial, community-developed modding project for Apex Legends that lets players host custom servers and private matches. On your server you control team structure, player caps and match rules through the playlist file in the platform folder, run custom_tdm or survival-based playlists and administer everything remotely through AES-keyed RCON. Before you start, we recommend reading the project's own rules and risk warnings.
R5Reloaded is an unofficial, community-developed project for Apex Legends that describes itself as a modding SDK. It is not made or endorsed by EA or Respawn Entertainment, and TheCrewHost is not its developer either; we provide the server hosting. The project lets players run custom servers, set up private matches with friends and mod the game, and it runs on PC only.
Players use the R5Reloaded launcher from the project's website, need the EA app running in the background and must have Apex Legends in their library. The project is based on an early-season build of Apex and supports battle royale maps such as versions of Kings Canyon, World's Edge and Olympus, alongside Arenas maps. In-game cosmetics are permanently disabled, and the project's rules explicitly forbid attempts to turn them back on.
The project's own documentation states that using it carries risk and that users proceed at their own risk. Before you open a server, read the project's EULA and current rules, and make sure your players know about them too.
Most of an R5Reloaded server's behavior is defined by the playlist file in the platform folder of the game directory. It is plain text, editable without any coding knowledge, and it has three main sections. The Gamemodes block defines base modes such as survival or custom_tdm. The Playlists block builds custom playlists on top of those modes and lists the maps each one can run on. The KVFileOverrides block lets you change weapon properties.
At the playlist level you can set the maximum number of players, the number of teams and the players per team. Set max_teams and max_players to the same value and max_team_players to 1, for example, and team deathmatch turns into a free-for-all where everyone fights alone. Respawns, ammo, shield health and ring behavior are controlled from the same file.
For deeper changes, the project offers access to the game's scripting language, files that define mod metadata and support for loading custom content paks. Back up from the panel before each edit, so a broken playlist that stops the server from starting is a quick rollback away.
R5Reloaded runs on the Apex Legends codebase, which has Source roots but is very large, so we set 8 GB as the floor for this game and our plans start at Gold 8GB. That tier suits private lobbies for a group of friends, small matches on Arenas maps and TDM sessions of up to about 20 players.
Memory needs grow with map size and player count. Large battle royale maps such as Kings Canyon, World's Edge or Olympus load far more data than compact Arenas maps, and the server tracks many more objects. On the CPU side, the load concentrates in the main loop, which makes the Ryzen 9 9950X's single-core speed the deciding factor.
For mid-sized TDM and deathmatch lobbies we recommend Platinum 10GB, and for busy lobbies on large maps, Diamond 12GB. Big multi-team survival lobbies are where Emerald 16GB earns its place, thanks to its six vCores. Xtreme 32GB is for communities running heavy script and content mods over long events.
R5Reloaded servers are managed remotely through encrypted RCON. Setting rcon_password on the server enables RCON, and the connection is additionally encrypted with rcon_key, a Base64-encoded AES-128 key that can be generated automatically or set by hand. With sv_rcon_whitelistaddress you can allow only one trusted IP address to connect. The related config files live in platform/cfg/tools, and when everything is set up correctly the console prints a message confirming that remote server access has been initialized.
There are two ways to connect: the netcon tool in the project's bin folder, where you enter the IP, port and key, or the game client itself, where you set cl_rcon_address and rcon_key and prefix commands with rcon. Over RCON the status command shows the server state and connected players, while kick and ban remove players who break your rules.
Never share the RCON password or key. Anyone who has both holds the same power over your server that you do, so keep them private and back up before changing them.
Players join with the client installed through the R5Reloaded launcher, not the standard Apex Legends client. Your server can appear in the project's server list, where players pick it and join. Anyone who prefers a direct connection can open the in-game console and type connect followed by the IP and port from your panel.
The project's documentation says servers that accept outside connections need UDP ports in the 37015 to 37020 range open, while RCON runs over TCP on the port the game server uses. The exact ports assigned to your server are listed in the panel.
R5Reloaded is actively developed, and some updates are mandatory to keep playing. When players move to a new version, the server has to be brought to the same version, or connections will fail. Follow update announcements through the project's official channels and take a panel backup before each update to keep your lobby running without interruptions. Hosting in İstanbul keeps latency low for players in Türkiye.
Go through R5Reloaded's EULA and risk warnings. Choose Gold 8GB for small lobbies, or Diamond 12GB or Emerald 16GB for busy matches on large maps.
The server installs automatically once payment is confirmed. Open the playlist file and platform/cfg/tools with an SFTP client or the panel's web file manager.
Choose the mode and maps you want, set max_players, max_teams and max_team_players for your lobby, and adjust respawn and shield rules if needed.
Set a strong rcon_password and rcon_key, limit access to your own IP with sv_rcon_whitelistaddress, then restart the server.
Confirm the server runs the same R5Reloaded version as your players, then join from the server list or with connect in the console and start the first match.
Common questions before hosting R5Reloaded: price, memory, the project's status, player requirements, playlists and RCON.
Our İstanbul datacenter runs on Ryzen 9 hardware, delivering low latency to players in Türkiye and good connectivity to Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus.
