Why TheCrewHost for Post Scriptum?

A 100-player, vehicle-heavy Unreal Engine 4 server needs real CPU and memory, which is why Post Scriptum plans start at 8 GB.

Strong cores for a crowded front

Tanks, artillery, logistics trucks and a hundred players' bullets all land in the same server frame. The Ryzen 9 9950X's single-core performance keeps that frame steady in heavy fighting.

Full ServerConfig access

Edit Server.cfg, MapRotation.cfg, Rcon.cfg, MOTD.cfg and ServerMessages.cfg in the file manager and apply your changes with a restart.

Permission groups in Admins.cfg

Use Group lines to bundle permissions such as changemap, kick, ban, reserve and cameraman, then Admin lines to tie each SteamID to the right group.

Reserved slots and team balance

Hold spots for clan members with NumReservedSlots, and stop lopsided teams with PreventTeamChangeIfUnbalanced and NumPlayersDiffForTeamChanges.

DDoS protection for 50v50

A full milsim server is an attractive target. Free DDoS protection filters attack traffic and lowers the risk of losing a match that has been running for hours.

NVMe storage and backups

Large map files load quickly from NVMe. Automatic backups plus manual panel backups protect your admin list and rotation through every game update.

TheCrewHost's Post Scriptum server hosting begins at $11.00 per month (₺440.00) on Gold 8GB, whose 8 GB of DDR5 memory meets the game's official guidance, backed by a Ryzen 9 9950X and NVMe storage. The game was renamed Squad 44 in December 2023, but the server side still uses the PostScriptum folder and the configuration files veterans already know. Set the player cap and reserved slots in Server.cfg, build your layer rotation in MapRotation.cfg and define permission groups in Admins.cfg. With our datacenter in İstanbul, squads connecting from Türkiye get low latency in the coordinated 50v50 fights this game is built around.

Post Scriptum is now Squad 44: what changed for server owners?

Post Scriptum is a World War II milsim built on Unreal Engine 4, developed by Periscope Games and released in August 2018. In November 2023 it was acquired by Offworld, the studio behind Squad, and on 14 December 2023 it was renamed Squad 44, with development continuing under Offworld and Mercury Arts. Players now find it on Steam as Squad 44.

For server admins, the change is smaller than it sounds. The dedicated server is still listed on Steam as Post Scriptum Dedicated Server, and the configuration files still live in PostScriptum/ServerConfig. The Server.cfg, Admins.cfg and MapRotation.cfg logic from older guides still applies today.

The game is built around 50 vs 50 battles with infantry, armor and logistics roles. Campaigns cover Operation Market Garden, the Battle of France, Overlord, the Bulge, Crete, and the Pacific at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal, with more than 120 usable vehicles and over 150 weapons. On your own server, you decide which of those fronts get played and in what order.

How much RAM does a Post Scriptum server need?

The floor for a Post Scriptum server is 8 GB of RAM, which is why our plans start at Gold 8GB. That tier works for seeding, matches of up to 40 players and small clan events. As player counts rise, and especially on vehicle-heavy maps, memory use and CPU load climb together.

In this game the CPU is usually the real bottleneck. The Unreal Engine 4 server handles most game logic on its main thread, so tank physics, artillery strikes and a hundred players moving around all have to fit inside the same frame. That makes the Ryzen 9 9950X's high single-core speed a genuine advantage.

For regular community matches we recommend Platinum 10GB, and for a busy clan server running 60 to 80 players, Diamond 12GB. If you plan to keep full 50v50 matches running, Emerald 16GB with six vCores and 16 GB is the balanced choice. Xtreme 32GB leaves the most headroom for tournaments and long event sessions.

Configuring Server.cfg, MapRotation.cfg and Rcon.cfg

Core settings live in PostScriptum/ServerConfig/Server.cfg. ServerName sets the name in the browser, MaxPlayers sets the player cap, and NumReservedSlots holds slots back for admins and clan members. ShouldAdvertise controls whether the server appears in the public list. TKAutoKickEnabled removes players who keep shooting their own team, while PreventTeamChangeIfUnbalanced and NumPlayersDiffForTeamChanges stop one side from filling up unevenly.

MapRotation.cfg lists the map and game mode layers the server runs in sequence. Pair modes such as Offensive, Invasion and Skirmish with different maps to build a rotation that fits your community's pace. Starting an empty server on a small Skirmish layer makes it much easier for early arrivals to get a match going.

Rcon.cfg holds remote admin settings; the default RCON port is 21114, and the file also caps how many RCON connections are allowed at once. MOTD.cfg carries the rules shown to joining players, and ServerMessages.cfg holds broadcasts that repeat on a timer. License.cfg stores license details for servers enrolled in the official licensing program.

How do you set up permission groups in Admins.cfg?

Permissions in Post Scriptum rely on two kinds of lines. First, a Group line names a group and lists its permissions separated by commas. Then an Admin line ties a player's SteamID to one of those groups. The default file ships with two groups, Admin and Moderator.

The permission list is granular. changemap switches maps, kick and ban remove players, reserve grants a reserved slot, balance and forceteamchange handle team management, cameraman unlocks the spectator camera and immune protects against kicks. canseeadminchat lets staff read the admin-only chat. With these you can build layers: a clan group that only gets reserved slots, moderators who can change maps, and full admins at the top.

Communities running several servers can use RemoteAdminListHosts.cfg and RemoteBanListHosts.cfg to pull admin and ban lists from a single remote address, so one ban applies on every server at the same moment. Bans.cfg holds bans local to that server.

How do players join, and how do you get the server populated?

Players open Squad 44, find your server name in the in-game browser and join. As long as ShouldAdvertise is on, your server shows up in the public list; if you run a closed clan server you can turn it off and direct members to it yourself. The game, query and RCON ports you need are all shown in the panel.

The hardest moment for any milsim server is getting it out of empty. Players tend to join servers that are already busy, so communities usually start at set times on small layers and build up from a handful of regulars. Using MOTD.cfg and ServerMessages.cfg to publish your rules, Discord invite and event times speeds that process up.

If a player reports stutter, check the server side first. When hitches only show up at peak hours and on vehicle-heavy maps, the server has likely reached the limit of its current plan, and it may be time to move up a tier. Hosting in İstanbul gives squads in Türkiye low latency, and players across Europe and the Middle East a balanced connection.

How to Set Up a Post Scriptum Server

  1. 1

Pick a plan for your target player count

Start with Gold 8GB for up to 40 players, Platinum 10GB for regular community matches, or Emerald 16GB for a server that stays full at 50v50.

  2. 2

    Let automatic setup complete

The server installs itself once payment is confirmed. Reach PostScriptum/ServerConfig through the panel's file manager or over SFTP.

  3. 3

    Fill in Server.cfg

Set ServerName, MaxPlayers and NumReservedSlots, then tune TKAutoKickEnabled and the team balance settings to match your community rules.

  4. 4

    Prepare Admins.cfg and MapRotation.cfg

Define permission groups, assign your staff's SteamIDs, and list the map and mode layers you want in MapRotation.cfg in the order they should run.

  5. 5

Lock down Rcon.cfg and go live

Choose a strong RCON password, write your rules into MOTD.cfg, restart the server and announce the first seeding time on Discord.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions before launching a Post Scriptum or Squad 44 server: price, memory, the rename, permissions and connecting.

How much does Post Scriptum server hosting cost?
Post Scriptum servers start at $11.00 per month (₺440.00) on Gold 8GB, the smallest plan that meets the game's official memory requirement. Among the 5 plans you will also find Emerald 16GB and Xtreme 32GB for full 50v50 servers. DDoS protection, automatic backups and SFTP access come with every plan.
Why is there no plan under 8 GB for Post Scriptum?
Post Scriptum is a heavy Unreal Engine 4 server that carries up to a hundred players on large, vehicle-filled maps, and following official guidance we set its floor at 8 GB of memory. A smaller plan would leave the server unstable, so we do not offer anything below 8 GB for this game.
Are Post Scriptum and Squad 44 the same game?
Yes. After Offworld acquired it, Post Scriptum was renamed Squad 44 on 14 December 2023. Players see it on Steam as Squad 44, but the dedicated server is still listed under the Post Scriptum name and its configuration files remain in the PostScriptum/ServerConfig folder.
How many players can my server hold?
The official format is 50 vs 50, so 100 players, and you set the cap with MaxPlayers in Server.cfg. For a full 100-player server we recommend Emerald 16GB. Gold 8GB covers matches of up to 40 players, and Diamond 12GB handles 60 to 80.
How do I add admins and permissions?
In Admins.cfg, first define a group and its permissions (changemap, kick, ban, reserve and so on) with a Group line, then link each player's SteamID to that group with an Admin line. If you run several servers, RemoteAdminListHosts.cfg lets them share one admin list from a single address.
When is the server ready to use?
Your Post Scriptum server starts installing automatically the moment payment is confirmed. When it finishes, you can edit the files in PostScriptum/ServerConfig from the panel and start the server. There is no manual approval or extra ticket to wait on.
How do players connect to my server?
Players open Squad 44 and search the in-game server browser for your server name. With ShouldAdvertise enabled in Server.cfg, your server appears in the public list. All connection-related port details are shown in your panel.
How do backups work?
Your server is backed up automatically, and you can make a manual backup from the panel at any time. Taking one before a game update, covering Admins.cfg, MapRotation.cfg and Server.cfg, lets you restore your whole configuration fast if the update causes trouble.
Is my server protected from DDoS attacks?
Yes, free DDoS protection is part of every plan, and attack traffic aimed at your server's IP is filtered. On a milsim server where a hundred players spend hours in the same match, a single outage is costly, and the protection helps reduce that risk.
Can I move to a higher plan later?
Yes, you can upgrade whenever you like. With Post Scriptum the need usually shows up once your server regularly climbs past 60 players. A manual backup from the panel before switching is all it takes to keep your configuration safe.
