Which OpenRCT2 Plan Is Right for You?

Compare recommended use, plan hardware and monthly prices.

PlanRecommended forHardwareMonthly price
Bronze 4GBAny OpenRCT2 park, 2–16 playersThe server runs in a few hundred MB; this plan is more than enough for almost every park.4 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 4 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 50 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺240.00/mo
Silver 6GBNo noticeable gain over BronzeExtra memory does not speed OpenRCT2 up; you only gain disk for more saves and backups.4 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 6 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 60 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺345.00/mo
Gold 8GBLarger than OpenRCT2 needsMost of the 8 GB sits idle in this game; keeping the savings on Bronze makes more sense.4 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 8 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 70 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺440.00/mo
Platinum 10GBNot recommended; far above needThe simulation runs on one core, so additional RAM never shows up as park performance.4 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 10 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 100 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺530.00/mo
Diamond 12GBPointless for OpenRCT2Same 4 vCores as Bronze; expect no measurable gain on an OpenRCT2 server.4 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 12 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 110 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺617.50/mo
Emerald 16GBOnly if you have other reasonsSix vCores cannot speed up a single-threaded park simulation; the benefit here is minimal.6 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 16 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 120 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺840.00/mo
Xtreme 32GBWe do not recommend it here32 GB and 12 vCores go unused by OpenRCT2; it is wasted capacity for a park server.12 vCore Ryzen 9950X · 32 GB DDR5 6000MHz · 200 GB NVMe SSD Samsung 990 PRO₺1520.00/mo

Why TheCrewHost for OpenRCT2?

What it takes to keep a shared theme park running smoothly for weeks.

Headless Park Server

The OpenRCT2 server runs without a graphical interface, loads the .park file you choose and listens on TCP port 11753 by default; the park stays up even with nobody connected.

Key-Based Permissions

Each player is recognized by a hash of their own key. Assign people to groups in users.json and decide in groups.json which group may terraform, remove rides or enable cheats.

Server-Side Plugins

Add chat commands, timed announcements or admin helpers through OpenRCT2's JavaScript plugin system; remote plugins are sent from the server to every player who joins.

Autosaves Plus Panel Backups

The game writes autosaves at the interval you set, and panel backups separately protect your park files, config.ini and permission files.

Fast Cores for Crowded Parks

Pathfinding for thousands of guests runs on a single core. Per-core speed on the Ryzen 9 9950X helps even sprawling parks keep ticking along smoothly for everyone.

24/7 Support

Desync errors, a player who cannot connect or a park file that will not load: reach our team by ticket, Discord, WhatsApp, phone or live chat.

For $6.00 (₺240.00) a month you get an always-on OpenRCT2 park server at TheCrewHost, and every one of our 7 plans, from 4 GB to 32 GB, uses a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. OpenRCT2 is the open-source re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, and its multiplayer lets everyone build the same park together in real time. Your server runs headless, keeps the park open while you are offline and writes its own autosaves. config.ini sets the server name, player cap and greeting, while users.json and groups.json decide who may demolish a coaster. Hosting in İstanbul means co-builders in Türkiye see each other's changes with very little delay.

What does an OpenRCT2 server do for a group?

An OpenRCT2 server keeps one theme park open as a shared session that several players can edit at the same time. One person lays track for a new coaster while another reroutes the paths and a third handles ticket prices and staff; the park's cash and guests belong to everyone.

Hosting from your own PC has an obvious catch: when you quit, the park closes. On a rented server OpenRCT2 runs headless, loads the park file and keeps it alive as players come and go. Turn on pause_server_if_no_clients in config.ini and time freezes while the server is empty; leave it off and the park keeps running with its guests, so the bank balance may look very different when you come back.

The headless server does not need the original RCT2 files uploaded. Every player, however, needs RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 or RCT Classic installed locally, because OpenRCT2 reads its graphics and sounds from those files. Your own saves and .park files downloaded from the community can all be hosted, and older .sv6 saves load too.

How much RAM does an OpenRCT2 server need?

Very little, honestly. An OpenRCT2 server typically runs in a few hundred megabytes, so even our entry Bronze 4GB plan is far beyond what it uses. Moving up a tier will not make the park faster, which is why we suggest Bronze even for a busy group.

What actually matters is per-core CPU speed. The game simulation runs on one core, and the heaviest job is pathfinding for guests and staff. A massive park with thousands of guests and tangled path networks benefits directly from a high-clocked core like the Ryzen 9 9950X, while the extra vCores on bigger plans do nothing for that single thread.

There is one more detail worth knowing: in OpenRCT2 multiplayer, every player's computer runs the same simulation as the server. No matter how strong the server hardware is, a player on a weak PC can still stutter in a gigantic park. Keeping guest counts and path networks reasonable is the most effective way to protect everyone's experience.

Who can do what? users.json and groups.json explained

OpenRCT2 identifies players by a hash of the key pair created the first time they play online, not by their username. Someone copying your name cannot copy your permissions. Two files do the work on the server: groups.json holds the groups and what each may do, and users.json maps each key hash to a group.

The fastest way to make yourself admin is to join the server once and leave. Your entry appears in users.json with a hash next to your name; stop the server, set that entry's groupId to 0 and start it again. Group 0 is the Admin group.

Permissions are granular: chat, terraforming, building or removing rides, changing park funds, kicking players and using cheats can each be switched on or off per group. With known_keys_only enabled, only keys already listed in users.json may join, which makes it OpenRCT2's version of a whitelist. You can also set a server password with default_password and give trusted groups PERMISSION_PASSWORDLESS_LOGIN so they skip it.

Plugins, autosaves and version matching

OpenRCT2 supports plugins written in JavaScript, and they run on a headless server as well. Upload plugin files to the plugin directory inside the server's user data folder. Local plugins stay on the server; remote plugins are sent to every player who connects, so nobody has to install anything by hand. That makes the system flexible enough for scheduled announcements, chat commands or moderation helpers.

The autosave and autosave_amount settings in config.ini control how often the park saves itself and how many autosaves are kept. Starting the server from the most recent autosave after a restart is the simplest way never to lose a day's work.

Version matching is strict. OpenRCT2 clients must run exactly the same network version as the server, and even a small difference gets a connection refused. Whenever you update the server, tell your players to update too. Develop builds change often, so community servers are much calmer on a stable release.

How do players join an OpenRCT2 server?

Players open the Multiplayer screen from OpenRCT2's main menu. With advertise enabled in config.ini, your server appears in the public list and a click is enough. To stay unlisted, switch advertise off and give players the IP and port instead; the default is TCP 11753, entered as address:port.

A joining player first downloads the current state of the park from the server. On large parks that can take a few seconds, after which the game advances in step for everyone, driven by the player actions the server relays.

server_name and server_description are what the list shows, while server_greeting is the message each player sees on arrival. Put your rules, the park's theme and your Discord link there so newcomers know what to do in their first minute. With log_chat and log_server_actions enabled, chat and player actions are logged, so if someone deletes a coaster at midnight you can see exactly who did it.

How to Set Up a OpenRCT2 Server

  1. 1

    Start with Bronze 4GB

OpenRCT2 uses so little memory that Bronze 4GB handles even a crowded group; larger plans do not make the park run faster.

  2. 2

Check out and let installation finish

Once payment is confirmed the server installs itself, and gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net gives you the console, file manager and SFTP credentials.

  3. 3

    Upload your own park

Copy the .park file you want to play into the server's save folder via the file manager or SFTP, and have the server load that park on startup.

  4. 4

    Edit config.ini

Set server_name, server_description, server_greeting and maxplayers; switch advertise off if you would rather stay out of the public list.

  5. 5

    Make yourself admin

Join once and disconnect, change the groupId on your new users.json entry to 0, then restart the server.

  6. 6

Share the address and open the gates

Give players the IP and port or your server name to search for, and make sure everyone runs exactly the same OpenRCT2 version as the server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Things worth knowing before you open a shared OpenRCT2 park.

How much does OpenRCT2 server hosting cost?
An OpenRCT2 park server costs $6.00 (₺240.00) a month on the entry plan, and for most parks that is all you will ever need. The price list shows 7 options from 4 GB to 32 GB, but OpenRCT2 barely touches those resources. Whichever tier you pick, the processor is the same Ryzen 9 9950X, paired with NVMe SSD and free DDoS protection.
Which plan should I choose?
Bronze 4GB. An OpenRCT2 server usually needs a few hundred megabytes and runs its simulation on a single core, so the extra RAM and vCores on higher tiers do not make the park faster. Only look higher if you want more disk to archive a large number of saves and backups for a long time.
Do I need to upload the RCT2 files to the server?
Not for the headless OpenRCT2 server. Each player does need RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 or RCT Classic installed on their own computer, because OpenRCT2 loads graphics and sounds from those original files. Anyone who owns the game just points OpenRCT2 at that folder the first time it starts.
Can I host my own park on the server?
Yes. Upload the .park file you saved in single-player to the server's save folder through the file manager or SFTP and have the server load it at startup. Older .sv6 saves open too. Before swapping parks, download the current park's autosaves to your computer so you keep both.
How do I become admin?
Join the server once and leave; a users.json entry with your name and key hash appears. Stop the server, set that entry's groupId to 0 and restart. Group 0 is the Admin group with every permission, and you can place other players into whichever group you like the same way.
How long does setup take?
Installation starts by itself as soon as payment is confirmed, and the panel is available shortly after. Uploading your park and editing config.ini takes a few minutes. The server is light, so it boots quickly too; once the console shows it listening for clients, the park is open.
How do players connect?
Players open the Multiplayer screen in OpenRCT2. With advertise on, your server is in the public list; otherwise they enter the IP and port, TCP 11753 by default. The park downloads from the server on join. If someone cannot get in, first check that their OpenRCT2 version matches the server exactly.
Why do desync errors happen?
In OpenRCT2 multiplayer, the server and every player simulate the park on their own side, and the server relays player actions to everyone. When the park state on two sides drifts apart, you get a desync. Version mismatches are the usual cause. Reconnecting downloads the park fresh from the server and normally fixes it; if it keeps happening, put everyone on the same version.
How is my park backed up?
There are two layers. OpenRCT2 writes its own autosaves at the interval set by autosave and keeps as many as autosave_amount allows. Our panel's automatic backups separately protect the save folder, config.ini, users.json and groups.json. Taking a manual backup before a big park overhaul is always a good idea.
Is there DDoS protection, and can I change plans later?
Yes, free DDoS protection is standard on every plan and filters attack traffic aimed at a publicly listed park server at the network level. Moving to a bigger tier is possible at any moment, and the park files come along untouched. In practice OpenRCT2 rarely needs it, since the bottleneck is single-core speed rather than memory.
