Open Fortress is a Source SDK 2013 mod, and its server follows that platform's rules. Our plans are set up with those rules in mind.
Bunny hopping, rocket jumps and a dozen players firing at once all land on the Source server's main thread. A Ryzen 9 9950X keeps frames stable in a packed free-for-all.
Upload community maps to NVMe storage, list them in mapcycle.txt and point sv_downloadurl at a FastDL host so new players are not stuck on a slow download screen.
Change hostname, rcon_password, sv_password and mp_timelimit in the web file manager, then restart from the console and see the result immediately.
Open Fortress is still in alpha and builds change. Back up from the panel before each update, move the server to the new build and keep your configuration intact.
Public deathmatch servers attract the occasional sore loser with a booter. DDoS filtering scrubs that traffic and helps keep the lobby from dropping mid-match.

Open Fortress server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at $6.00 per month (₺240.00) for a dedicated Source SDK 2013 server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. It runs in our İstanbul datacenter, so players in Türkiye and the surrounding region get the low latency a twitchy deathmatch demands. Open Fortress blends Team Fortress 2 gunplay with old-school arena shooter pacing, and your server can be a public free-for-all, a locked CTF scrim room or a rotation built entirely from custom maps. You get full SFTP access to server.cfg, mapcycle.txt and your FastDL settings from day one.
Open Fortress is a fan-made mod built on Team Fortress 2's world and gunplay, inspired by old-school arena shooters. It is a fan creation and is not affiliated with Valve. Instead of TF2's nine classes there is a single character, the Mercenary, who can use every weapon. Speed is the point: bunny hopping, power-ups scattered around the map and a new arsenal that stretches from dynamite to chainsaws.
On your own server you can run free-for-all deathmatch, capture the flag and objective modes built around stealing briefcases. Build a rotation made entirely of custom maps, dedicate the server to a single mode, or keep a password-protected room where your friends practice movement.
Open Fortress has a small, scattered player base, and a reliable, well-connected server can become the place that community gathers. Hosting in İstanbul matters in a genre where reaction time decides every duel, especially for players in Türkiye, the Balkans and the Middle East.
Open Fortress is still in alpha, and that shapes how you run a server. Players install and update the mod with a tool called Beans from the official site, and they need Team Fortress 2 and Source SDK 2013 Multiplayer installed on Steam to play. The official site also publishes a separate binaries package for server operators.
Version matching is the rule that matters most. When players move to a new build, the server has to be updated to the same build, or their connections will be refused. That is why a manual backup from the panel before every update is worth the ten seconds it takes: server.cfg, mapcycle.txt and your map folder stay safe if something goes sideways.
The developers have opened a Steam store page and plan to release Open Fortress there as a full free-to-play game. The distribution method and server files may change with that release, so follow the official announcements and keep your configuration backed up through the transition.
Bronze 4GB handles most Open Fortress servers, and we recommend starting there for up to 24 players. Source SDK 2013 servers are light on memory; the real bottleneck is single-core CPU performance. In deathmatch every player is moving, shooting and rocket jumping nonstop, which puts a constant load on the main thread that runs game logic. A fast core is what keeps frames from dipping during the busiest fights.
Silver 6GB makes sense for a full server between 24 and 32 players, or when you keep a large custom map archive on disk. Gold 8GB gives breathing room if you experiment with lots of plugins and keep long log and demo history. Anything above that is more than a single Open Fortress server can use: the memory sits idle and gameplay feels the same. Start small, watch how the server behaves, and upgrade to a higher plan when you actually need it.
Open Fortress server settings live in cfg/server.cfg inside the mod folder. hostname sets the name in the browser, rcon_password protects remote admin, and sv_password locks the room. mp_timelimit controls map length; keeping it short on a fast free-for-all server keeps the rotation fresh and players coming back.
Custom maps define a server's identity. Upload .bsp files to the maps folder, add them to mapcycle.txt, and they join the rotation. Players who are missing a map can download it from the server, but Source's built-in transfer is slow. Host the same files on a web server using the FastDL layout, set sv_downloadurl to that address, and newcomers get in far faster.
Plugin platforms such as Metamod:Source and SourceMod can be used with Source SDK 2013 mods, but do not assume every plugin works with Open Fortress, since many depend on game-specific structures. Test each one on an empty server and check the error logs before opening it to players.
Players first need Open Fortress itself: Team Fortress 2 and Source SDK 2013 Multiplayer installed on Steam, and the mod brought up to date with the official installer. From there they can find your server by name in the in-game browser, or open the developer console and type connect followed by the IP and port from your panel.
Source servers default to port 27015, but always use the exact port shown in your panel. If you want the community to grow, pin the address in your Discord and schedule regular game nights. For a niche game like this one, a server that is actually full is the strongest advertisement you can have.
When someone cannot connect, check the version first. If the client and the server are on different alpha builds, the connection will not go through, so updating the server right after an official release announcement solves the most common support question before it is asked.
Start with Bronze 4GB for a deathmatch server of up to 24 players. Pick Silver 6GB if you expect a full 32-player lobby or a large map archive.
Once payment clears, the server is provisioned automatically. gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net gives you the console, file manager, backups and your SFTP details.
Set the server name, RCON password and map time limit, then list the free-for-all and CTF maps you want in mapcycle.txt in the order they should play.
Send .bsp files to the maps folder over SFTP, host copies on a FastDL address, add it to sv_downloadurl and restart the server.
Confirm the server runs the same alpha build as your players, then post the IP and port in your Discord and kick off the first match.
