Why TheCrewHost for Mordhau Wine?

What a Mordhau server built around community maps needs.

Windows Server Build, via Wine

Wine is a compatibility layer that runs Windows programs on Linux without a virtual machine or a Windows license. It lets Mordhau's Windows server run with all of its Windows-specific behavior intact.

Maps Cooked for Windows

Mappers cook their assets for Windows. The Wine edition loads those maps with correct collision data, avoiding the fall-through-the-floor problems that can appear on the Linux build.

Game.ini in the WindowsServer Folder

Your settings live in Game.ini and Engine.ini under Mordhau/Saved/Config/WindowsServer. MaxSlots, MapRotation and Mods lines work the same way as on the native build.

Strong Cores to Absorb Wine Overhead

The compatibility layer adds a small but constant load on CPU and memory. The Ryzen 9 9950X's single-core speed helps a full server hold its tick despite that overhead.

Free DDoS Protection

Popular custom map servers are easy to spot. Free DDoS protection on every plan filters attack traffic and helps keep community events from being cut short.

NVMe for Big Map Packs

Community maps can be larger than official ones. NVMe storage keeps map changes quick, and automatic backups make it easy to undo a problematic map addition.

TheCrewHost Mordhau Wine server hosting starts at ₺345.00 per month and runs Mordhau's Windows dedicated server through the Wine compatibility layer on a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe storage. This edition exists for custom maps: mappers package their maps for Windows, and on the native Linux server those maps can suffer collision bugs, while the Windows server loads them as intended. Add community maps from mod.io, plus some mods that do not work on the Linux build, with Mods lines in Game.ini. Hosted in our İstanbul datacenter, it gives players in Türkiye and nearby regions low-latency duels on your custom arenas.

What is Mordhau Wine and why does it exist?

Mordhau Wine is our edition that runs the game's Windows dedicated server on Linux through the Wine compatibility layer. To see why it is needed when Mordhau already ships an official Linux server, you have to look at how maps are distributed.

In Unreal Engine, a map is packaged for its target platform before it goes into the game, a step called cooking. Community mappers almost always cook only for Windows, because every player uses the Windows client and building a separate Linux package is extra work. The Linux server can open such a map, but its collision data may load incomplete or broken. The result is players dropping through the floor, walking through walls, or a map that is simply unplayable.

The Windows server loads these maps exactly as the mapper tested them. On top of that, some mods that misbehave on the Linux server work properly here. In short, Mordhau Wine exists for servers that put community maps and Windows-dependent mods front and center.

Who should choose Mordhau Wine over the native Mordhau server?

One question decides it: will your server rotate community maps? If yes, Mordhau Wine is the right choice. Servers running custom duel arenas, community-made Frontline maps, fun maps or bespoke event scenes get the most out of this edition.

If no, meaning your server will stick to official maps like Grad, Camp or Taiga, our native Linux Mordhau page makes more sense. With no compatibility layer in between, it uses fewer resources at the same player count and has fewer moving parts.

The price of the Wine edition is resource use. The compatibility layer adds overhead in both memory and CPU, so our plan recommendations here sit one tier above the native edition. For example, a 32 to 48 player Frontline server that Gold 8GB carries on the native build gets a Platinum 10GB recommendation here. If you cannot decide between the two, tell our support team which maps you want to run and we will help you pick the right edition.

How do you add community maps and mods?

Community maps for Mordhau are distributed through mod.io and added to the server like any other mod. Stop the server first, because Mordhau writes its settings back to the ini files on shutdown and edits made to a running server can be lost. Then open Game.ini in the Mordhau/Saved/Config/WindowsServer folder.

Under [/Script/Mordhau.MordhauGameSession], add a separate Mods= line with the mod.io ID for each map or mod. To put a map into rotation, add a MapRotation= line with the map's name in the same file; the mapper usually lists the exact name on the mod.io page. Mods that run as a server actor also need a SpawnServerActorsOnMapLoad line under [/Script/Mordhau.MordhauGameMode].

When you start the server, the mods and maps download. Test every new map on its own first: boot the server on that map, walk the floors and stairs with a player, and check the console output for errors. If it holds up, add it to the rotation. If a map crashes the server, removing its Mods and MapRotation lines and restarting usually fixes it.

Performance and common issues on the Wine edition

Wine adds a small translation cost to everything the server does. In everyday play players will not notice it, but it narrows the CPU margin available for holding tick. So if you are thinking about raising NetServerMaxTickRate in Engine.ini above the default 60, first watch how comfortably 60 tick holds on a full server.

On the first start, the Wine environment and the Windows server's config files are created, so that initial boot can take longer than later ones. If the server did not create its config files after the first start or shut down unexpectedly, the last lines in the panel console usually point to the cause.

The most common custom map issue is a player failing to download a map, or an old version lingering in their cache. When a mapper ships an update, restarting the server refreshes the server-side copy. Taking a manual backup from the panel before adding big map packs lets you return to the last working setup in minutes if something goes wrong.

How do players connect to a Mordhau Wine server?

From a player's point of view, there is no difference between the Wine and native editions; the server shows up in the in-game browser like any other Mordhau server. Players search for the name you set in ServerName and enter the password if you added one. Console users can also connect directly by typing open followed by the IP:port from your panel.

The first time a player joins a custom map server, they wait while the required maps and mods download from mod.io. Large maps can stretch that wait, so mentioning your map rotation in the server name or your Discord announcement sets expectations properly.

Because the server is in Istanbul, players in Türkiye get low latency, and players across Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus generally connect well too. For players who cannot see the server in the list, check version parity first: after a Triternion update, the server files need updating as well.

How to Set Up a Mordhau Wine Server

  1. 1

Pick a plan for your map plans

Think one tier above the native edition to cover Wine overhead: Silver or Gold for custom duel arenas, Platinum and up for full Frontline.

  2. 2

    Let automatic provisioning finish

The Mordhau Windows server and the Wine environment are prepared automatically, and your server appears in gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net with its IP and port.

  3. 3

Run a first boot, then stop the server

The first start creates the config files in the WindowsServer folder. Once they exist, stop the server and move on to editing.

  4. 4

Add maps and mods to Game.ini

Add a Mods= line for each community map and a MapRotation= line for rotation, and set MaxSlots, ServerName and AdminPassword.

  5. 5

    Test maps one by one

Start the server, walk floors and stairs on each new map to check collision, and confirm the console shows no errors.

  6. 6

    Invite your community

Announce the server name, password and map rotation on Discord; players join from the server browser or with the open command.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people most often ask about Mordhau Wine servers.

How much does Mordhau Wine server hosting cost?
Mordhau Wine plans start at ₺345.00 per month ($8.63) with Silver 6GB, and there are 6 options in total. Current prices are on the order page. Because Wine adds overhead, we suggest one tier above the native edition for the same player count, and you can upgrade whenever your needs change.
How is Mordhau Wine different from the regular Mordhau server?
Our regular Mordhau server runs the game's official Linux server. Mordhau Wine runs the Windows server on Linux through Wine. Community maps are cooked for Windows, so they can show collision bugs on the Linux server, while the Windows server loads them correctly. In exchange, the Wine edition uses somewhat more resources.
When should I choose the Wine edition?
Choose Wine if your server will use community maps from mod.io, custom duel arenas, or mods that do not work properly on the Linux server. If you will only play official maps, the native Linux edition is lighter and simpler. If you are unsure, just send our support team the maps you want to run.
How much RAM do I need?
We recommend Silver 6GB for a 16 to 20 player custom duel server, Gold 8GB for 24 to 32 players, Platinum 10GB for 32 to 48 player Frontline and Diamond 12GB for servers approaching 64 players. 64-slot servers with big map packs and many mods are more comfortable on the 6 vCore Emerald plan.
How do I add community maps?
Stop the server and open Game.ini in the WindowsServer folder. Under [/Script/Mordhau.MordhauGameSession], add a Mods= line with the map's mod.io ID, and add a MapRotation= line with the map's name to put it into rotation. The server downloads the map on boot; we recommend testing a new map on its own before rotating it.
How long does setup take?
Provisioning starts automatically once your payment is confirmed, and the server is ready in your panel when the server files and Wine environment are in place, usually within a short time. The first boot may take a bit longer than later ones because the config files and Wine environment are created then.
Do players need to do anything different?
No. To players, the Wine edition is an ordinary Mordhau server: it appears in the server browser, asks for a password if you set one, and accepts direct joins with open and the IP:port in the console. The only difference is a short wait on first join while custom maps download from mod.io.
Are backups and DDoS protection included?
Yes. Your server is backed up automatically, and you can take manual backups from the panel; backing up before adding a new map pack gives you a fast way back if it misbehaves. Free DDoS protection is active on every Mordhau Wine plan and helps filter attack traffic.
Can I upgrade my plan later?
Yes, move up to a bigger plan at any time and your config files, map list and mods are kept. Upgrading makes sense as your community map archive or player count grows. If you are not sure which plan to move to, our 24/7 support team can help via ticket, Discord, WhatsApp, phone or live chat.
