Why TheCrewHost for Modrinth Generic?

Infrastructure set up to get the most out of Modrinth's open pack format and the lean Fabric ecosystem.

Pick the project and version

Identify the pack by its Modrinth project ID and the version by that version's own ID. A pinned version lines up exactly with the pack your players install in the Modrinth App.

The loader the .mrpack declares

Every .mrpack file states which Minecraft version and mod loader it needs. The server is prepared from that information, so you never have to install a loader by hand.

Strong cores for the main loop

Fabric servers are lean, but game logic still runs on one main thread. The high clock speed of the Ryzen 9 9950X protects TPS around busy farms and big redstone builds.

NVMe for pre-generation

Pre-generating a world with Chunky writes thousands of chunks to disk. Samsung 990 EVO Plus NVMe drives speed up that job and the chunk saves that happen during play.

Console and full file access

You get full access to the mods and config folders through the file manager or SFTP. If a client-only mod stops the server, spot it in the console and remove the file right away.

DDoS protection and backups

No plan charges extra for DDoS protection. Besides automatic backups, you can take manual ones from the panel, so a pack update that goes wrong is undone in a few clicks.

With Modrinth modpack server hosting from TheCrewHost, ₺440.00 ($11.00) per month buys the Gold 8GB plan, with 8 GB of DDR5 RAM on Ryzen 9 9950X cores and NVMe storage. The Modrinth Generic server type installs a modpack published on Modrinth from its project ID and version, with the Minecraft version and mod loader declared in the pack's .mrpack file forming the basis of the setup. Everything from lightweight Fabric packs to large packs with hundreds of mods runs on the same infrastructure. Because the hardware lives in İstanbul, players across Türkiye get a short, stable route to the server. Setup is automatic after payment, and the web console, file manager, SFTP and automatic backups are ready from the first minute.

What is Modrinth Generic, and how do you choose a pack and version?

Modrinth is an open-source platform for mods and modpacks, and it publishes packs in an open format called .mrpack. The Modrinth Generic server type is not tied to any single pack; it is a general way to pick a modpack from Modrinth and install it on your server.

The choice comes down to two things. The first is the project itself: every modpack has a permanent project ID, and its short name, the slug, appears in the address bar. The second is the version: each release on the Versions tab has its own version ID. Without a version, the installer typically fetches the newest one, so pinning a specific version is the safer way to stay in sync with your players.

Modrinth tags versions as Release, Beta or Alpha. Release builds suit a public server, while Beta builds are fine for testing with a group of friends. Each version page also lists the supported Minecraft version and mod loader, so a quick look before installing saves surprises later.

How much RAM does your Modrinth pack need?

A large share of Modrinth packs are built on Fabric or Quilt, and they generally boot with less memory than a Forge pack of the same size. Gold 8GB comfortably carries a Fabric pack of up to about 150 mods with four to ten players.

Needs climb as the pack grows or players spread across a wider area. Packs of 150 to 250 mods with six to twelve players fit Platinum 10GB, and heavy Forge-based packs are more realistic on Diamond 12GB. An active community of twelve to twenty benefits from the six vCores on Emerald 16GB, and Xtreme 32GB is there for servers running more than 300 mods or hosting over twenty players.

Allocating more RAM than you need will not make the server faster, because the main tick loop still runs on one core. If the pack author shares a memory recommendation, start there and move up a tier as your player count grows.

How does a .mrpack separate server mods from client mods?

The index inside a .mrpack file tells, for every mod, whether it is required, optional or unsupported on the client and on the server. Packs can also define separate folders for config files that should only be copied to the server or only to the client. When the author fills in these fields correctly, only the files meant to run server-side end up on your server.

Things are not always labeled perfectly. If a rendering or UI mod slips onto the server by mistake, the console shows an error about client classes, and removing that mod from the mods folder usually does the trick. Packs built purely for client performance, like Fabulously Optimized, are simply not designed to run on a server at all.

The pack's Minecraft version decides the Java release: roughly, Java 8 covers packs up to 1.16.5, Java 17 covers 1.18 to 1.20.4, and Java 21 is needed from 1.20.5 on. With the wrong Java the server will not boot; if you see that error, just contact support.

How can you make a Fabric server run faster?

One strength of the Fabric ecosystem is its server-side performance mods. If your pack does not already include them, Lithium optimizes game logic, FerriteCore trims memory use and Krypton improves the networking stack, and all three can be added to the server without players installing anything. Check the pack's mod list first so you do not load the same mod twice.

Chunk generation is the main cause of stutter while exploring. Pre-generating the area around spawn to a fixed radius with Chunky handles that load in one go before players arrive. The server works hard during the run, so schedule it for a time when nobody is online.

The spark profiler is the most practical way to find a problem, showing which mod, block or entity is using up tick time. Keeping simulation-distance lower than view-distance in server.properties also cuts server load without shrinking how far players can see.

How do updates work, and how do players join?

Players install the pack with the Modrinth App or with another launcher that imports .mrpack files, such as Prism Launcher. What matters is that they pick the same version your server runs. When the game is running, they add the server through Multiplayer > Add Server using the address and port from your panel.

When it is time to update, take a manual backup from the panel first, then read the new version's changelog. A removed mod wipes its blocks and items from the world, and major updates that change the Minecraft version may not carry the existing world over. Writing down the config changes you made by hand lets you restore settings quickly if the update resets them.

After updating the server, confirm in the console that it starts cleanly, and only then tell players to switch to the new version. Most login errors on modded servers trace back to exactly that kind of version gap.

How to Set Up a Modrinth Generic Server

  1. 1

Pick a plan by pack weight

Choose Gold 8GB for mid-size Fabric packs, or Platinum 10GB and up for large or Forge-based packs. Installation starts by itself once payment is confirmed.

  2. 2

Get the project and version IDs ready

Note the pack's project ID on Modrinth and the ID of the version you want. Not sure where those IDs go? A quick ticket to support sorts it out.

  3. 3

Follow the first boot in the console

Start the server from the panel and watch the mods load. A client mod that slipped into the pack will name itself in the crash log; remove that file and boot again.

  4. 4

    Tune settings and performance mods

Set the whitelist, view-distance and simulation-distance in server.properties. If the pack lacks them, add server-side mods such as Lithium, FerriteCore or Chunky.

  5. 5

    Pre-generate the world

Run Chunky over a set radius around spawn while the server is still empty. This one-time job noticeably reduces stutter during exploration.

  6. 6

Invite players on the same version

Players install the same version of the pack with the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher and enter your panel's IP:port under Multiplayer > Add Server.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to know about picking versions, the .mrpack format and joining before you put a Modrinth modpack on a server.

What does Modrinth modpack hosting cost?
A Modrinth modpack server costs ₺440.00 ($11.00) per month on Gold 8GB, the smallest plan for this server type. In total there are 5 plans, ranging from 8 GB to 32 GB of RAM. Automatic backups, DDoS protection, SFTP access and unlimited traffic are standard on all of them, and the plans differ only in RAM, vCores and disk space.
Which plan should I choose for my pack?
Gold 8GB is enough for Fabric or Quilt packs of up to about 150 mods. Packs in the 150 to 250 mod range are happier on Platinum 10GB, and heavy Forge-based packs on Diamond 12GB. With more than twelve players, look at Emerald 16GB, and at Xtreme 32GB for very large communities.
What is a .mrpack file, and why does it matter?
.mrpack is Modrinth's open modpack format. Its index defines the pack's Minecraft version, its mod loader and whether each mod is needed on the server or the client. Since the server setup relies on that information, choosing the right version is the key to a server that matches your players exactly.
Does every Modrinth pack run on a server?
No. Packs made purely for client performance, like Fabulously Optimized, are not designed to run on a server. Most packs with actual gameplay content run fine, though. If a client mod ends up on the server by mistake, the console shows an error and you just remove that mod from the mods folder.
Can I install additional mods alongside the pack?
Yes, the mods folder is yours through the file manager or SFTP. Server-only mods such as Lithium, FerriteCore, Krypton, Chunky and spark can be added without touching players' installs. Mods that add content must be installed by every player too. Remember to back up before any change.
How long does installation take?
The installer kicks off by itself as soon as the payment clears. Every mod file in the pack needs to be downloaded, so timing depends on the pack's size. Fabric packs usually start quickly, while a big pack can take a few minutes on its first boot. When the console reports startup is complete, the server is ready.
How do players connect?
Each player installs the same version of your server's pack with the Modrinth App or with Prism Launcher, which can import .mrpack files. From the main menu they open Multiplayer > Add Server and paste the IP:port shown in your panel. With the whitelist enabled, run whitelist add for each player beforehand.
How are backups handled?
Backups happen automatically in the background, and a manual one is always a click away in the panel. Take one right before changing the pack version or deleting a mod, since those are the moves most likely to damage a world.
Does DDoS protection cost extra?
No. Every game server we host includes DDoS protection at no charge, active from the start. Even a public Fabric server keeps its players connected because attack traffic is filtered out. With unlimited traffic, busy days never bring extra charges either.
Is upgrading to a larger plan possible?
Yes, you can upgrade from the customer area at any time. Switching from a light Fabric pack to a heavy one, or simply gaining players, is a good reason to go from Gold to Platinum or Diamond. Make a panel backup before switching part of your routine.
