What L4D2 communities rely on, from casual co-op to league Versus.
Upload campaign VPKs from the Workshop to left4dead2/addons over SFTP. NVMe storage keeps chapter transitions short, even on big multi-chapter custom campaigns.
L4D2 runs at 30 tick by default. Tickrate Enabler with -tickrate 100 unlocks competitive rates, and the plugin also fixes Boomer vomit range misbehaving at high tick.
Build admin tools and vote systems with SourceMod plugins, and edit map entities with Stripper:Source. For co-op beyond eight players, plugins like L4DToolZ lift the slot cap.
Switch to Realism, Scavenge or a mutation with mp_gamemode, and use sv_gametypes to limit which modes lobbies can bring. Community mutations written in VScript run from VPK add-ons.
srcds simulates on one core, and at 100 tick each step has less time to finish. The Ryzen 9 9950X's clock speed helps hold the frame budget when a finale throws a Tank and a horde together.
Competitive L4D2 servers can get targeted mid-match. Free DDoS protection on every plan filters attack traffic and lowers the chance of a league game being cut short.
TheCrewHost Left 4 Dead 2 server hosting starts at ₺240.00 per month for your own L4D2 dedicated server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe storage. Run every official campaign from Dead Center to The Last Stand in Campaign, Realism, Versus, Survival and Scavenge. Hosting from our İstanbul datacenter keeps Charger slams and Jockey rides responsive for players in Türkiye and neighboring regions. Upload Workshop campaigns as VPK files, push the server to 100 tick with SourceMod and Tickrate Enabler, and install competitive configs such as ZoneMod. Custom VScript mutations and Stripper:Source map edits are yours to run as well.
A Left 4 Dead 2 server brings every mode together in one place: four-player Campaign and the harsher Realism, 4v4 Versus and Realism Versus, time-attack Survival, gas-can-collecting Scavenge, and Valve's rule-bending mutations. Alongside L4D2 campaigns like Dead Center, Dark Carnival, The Parish and Cold Stream, you also get the first game's campaigns such as No Mercy and Blood Harvest, plus the maps and Survival stages added by The Last Stand community update.
The difference from the original goes beyond sheer content. The Charger, Jockey and Spitter, melee weapons, Steam Workshop support and VScript-powered custom mutations are all L4D2-only. The competitive scene lives here too: 100 tick Versus leagues played on config packs like ZoneMod are built on L4D2.
Which one should you pick? If the original survivors and the first game's Versus balance are what you are after, see our Left 4 Dead page. If you want Workshop campaigns, competitive configs, mutation nights and a larger active player base, L4D2 is the server to rent.
Bronze 4GB is enough for vanilla co-op or Realism, since an L4D2 server on its own uses only a small slice of memory. What drives memory up is content and plugins: large Workshop campaigns, a long list of SourceMod plugins and Stripper:Source files. For eight-player Versus and Scavenge with plugins, Silver 6GB is comfortable, and a ZoneMod-style competitive setup with a big Workshop archive sits well on Gold 8GB.
It pays to be realistic about tickrate. The cost of 100 tick lands on a single CPU core, and every plan from Bronze to Diamond gets the same 4 vCore Ryzen 9 9950X allocation, so tick performance for one server does not change from plan to plan. Moving up buys you memory and disk space.
If you want to lift the slot cap with L4DToolZ and run 12 or 16 player co-op, more players mean more network traffic and a busier horde; Platinum 10GB leaves safe headroom for that. Emerald and Xtreme are far beyond what a single L4D2 server can use.
A competitive L4D2 server is built in layers, and order matters. Start by installing Metamod:Source and SourceMod into left4dead2/addons. Then add Tickrate Enabler and put -tickrate 100 on the launch line; you also need to match sv_minrate, sv_maxrate, sv_mincmdrate, sv_minupdaterate and net_splitpacket_maxrate in server.cfg to that tick, otherwise players keep receiving 30 tick data.
Community config packs such as ZoneMod ship with Stripper:Source map edits, required SourceMod plugins and gamedata files. Install the pack following its own documentation, and players load the config at the start of a match with the !match command. These packs track game updates closely, so after a Valve patch, wait for the updated config release and refresh the server with it.
If you only want smoother co-op, you do not need the whole stack. Tickrate Enabler at 60 tick already feels noticeably better than 30. The step from 60 to 100 is smaller, but 100 is the standard league players expect.
To add a Workshop campaign to an L4D2 server, upload its VPK file to left4dead2/addons. The key detail: the campaign file does not download to players from the server, so every player needs to be subscribed to the same campaign on the Workshop. Pinning the Workshop links of your server's campaigns in a Discord channel heads off most connection problems.
Mutations come two ways. Valve's official mutations are selected through mp_gamemode, while community mutations arrive as VPKs containing VScript files and require players to have the same add-on. Restricting accepted modes with sv_gametypes stops lobbies from dragging your server into a mode you never intended to host.
Day to day, server.cfg, SourceMod's admins_simple.ini and the console cover almost everything. After the occasional Valve update, the server files need updating, and some SourceMod plugins may need fresh gamedata. Taking a panel backup before a big plugin update means you can roll back in minutes if something breaks.
Players can join two ways: directly by IP from the console, or through a lobby. For the console route, a player enables the developer console in settings and types connect followed by the IP:port shown in your panel. Direct connections are only accepted when sv_allow_lobby_connect_only is set to 0 in server.cfg.
The lobby route is handier for Versus and Scavenge. Once sv_steamgroup holds your Steam group's ID, members can create a lobby and pick the group server option; sv_steamgroup_exclusive 1 reserves the server for the group. That is how you get all eight players into the same match in one go.
When a player drops while the map loads on a server running a Workshop campaign, the cause is almost always a missing add-on or a version mismatch. Ask them to check their Workshop subscription and restart the game. If it keeps happening, send us the console output via ticket or Discord and our support team will dig in with you.
Bronze 4GB suits vanilla co-op, Silver 6GB plugin-driven Versus, and Gold 8GB a ZoneMod server with a sizable Workshop archive.
The L4D2 dedicated server files install on their own after payment, and your server appears in gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net with its IP and port.
Set hostname, rcon_password, mp_gamemode and sv_gametypes; add sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0 for direct joins and sv_steamgroup for group lobbies.
Upload Metamod:Source, SourceMod and Tickrate Enabler to addons, add -tickrate to the launch line and update the rate cvars in server.cfg.
Upload Workshop campaign VPKs to addons; for competitive play, install a config pack like ZoneMod per its documentation and run a test match.
Share the IP:port and the Workshop links of your campaigns; players join with the connect command or through your Steam group lobby.
