What an LMP server brings to a jointly run space program, and the files you'll be working with.
In career and science modes, funds, science and research are shared by the whole server, and players can organize into groups that work like companies.
Interpolation stops other players' ships from jumping when the connection wobbles, and cached QuickLZ compression keeps traffic lean without generating garbage.
Generate the file from LMP's in-game settings, then define mandatory and forbidden plugins, allowed parts and required expansions such as Making History and Serenity.
Server name, password, max players, port and warp mode live in XML files in the Config folder, including GeneralSettings, ConnectionSettings and WarpSettings.
Set an AdminPassword and trusted players can administer the server from within KSP; leave it empty to keep administration in the panel console only.
The server stores and relays vessel data rather than running physics, so even the smallest plan leaves plenty of Ryzen 9 9950X headroom for a full crew.
KSP LMP server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 ($6.00) a month and runs the Luna Multiplayer server for the original Kerbal Space Program on a Ryzen 9 9950X in İstanbul. LMP's big difference from DarkMultiPlayer is a single shared scenario: funds, science and the tech tree belong to the whole server, so your group runs one space program together. The server talks UDP through the Lidgren library, interpolates vessel positions so ships don't jump around on a shaky connection, and registers with LMP's master servers so players find you in the in-game list. Plans run from 4 GB to 32 GB.
Luna Multiplayer (LMP) is a multiplayer mod for the original Kerbal Space Program that lets players fly together in one shared universe. The server side is a .NET program that stores that universe and distributes updates between players; everyone installs the LMP client in KSP and connects here.
The main difference from DarkMultiPlayer is how progress is kept. DMP gives every player their own scenario, whereas LMP has exactly one scenario per server, so everyone contributes to the same pool of funds, science and technology. LMP also brings reliable UDP messaging through Lidgren, vessel interpolation, NAT punchthrough and a server list visible from inside the game. For time warp you can choose subspace or no warping; DMP's voted, master-controlled warp modes are not part of LMP.
If your group wants to act as one agency, split missions and climb a single tech tree, LMP is the right fit. If everyone should run a separate career, look at our DMP page. For groups coming from DMP, LMP documents a Universe converter, but because there is only one shared scenario, you have to pick one player's progress to carry over.
Settings live in XML files in the Config folder, which the server creates with default values on first start. GeneralSettings.xml is the one you'll edit most: ServerName (30 characters at most), Description, Password, AdminPassword, MaxPlayers (20 by default), GameMode (Sandbox, Career or Science), GameDifficulty, Cheats and ModControl are all there. You also set the number of untracked asteroids and comets with NumberOfAsteroids and NumberOfComets, and the maximum part count for a spawned vessel with MaxVesselParts, 200 by default. Keep TerrainQuality identical to players' own KSP setting, or terrain differences can appear.
ConnectionSettings.xml holds the port; the default is UDP 8800, but go by the port assigned in your panel. WarpMode in WarpSettings.xml takes Subspace or None. RegisterWithMasterServer in MasterServerSettings.xml decides whether the server shows up in the in-game list.
Stop the server from the panel before editing and restart it afterwards. LMP's own documentation notes that the server creates backups when it shuts down cleanly, so avoid killing the process.
In career or science mode, everyone on the server works toward the same budget and the same research tree. Science one player brings back from the Mun becomes technology anyone can unlock, and the reward from a contract someone else completes goes into the common funds. LMP also supports groups in career and science modes, letting players organize themselves like companies.
Multiplayer comes with natural limits, and LMP documents them openly. Once you switch to another player's vessel or enter one from the Tracking Station, you can't revert. Quickloading is disabled, because going back in time makes no sense on a shared timeline. Pausing isn't possible either. According to the documentation, tourist and rescue contracts are currently unsupported, and ground-deployed experiments aren't synchronized with the server.
Talking these limits through with your group at the start avoids disappointment. Players used to reverting should try new designs on short test flights near Kerbin before committing to long missions, and making a manual backup in the panel before critical missions is a good habit.
On first start the server writes a default LMPModControl.xml into the Config folder. The easiest way to produce one that fits your own mod set is from inside KSP: the button for generating a server LMPModControl.xml in LMP's settings menu writes the file to your KSP root folder. You copy it into the server's Config folder with SFTP or the file manager and restart.
The file has several sections. Mandatory plugins define mods every player must have, optionally with a SHA256 hash, a download link and a message shown to the user. Required expansions such as Making History and Serenity are listed there too. AllowNonListedPlugins decides whether plugins outside the lists may load, and forbidden plugins name mods that block a connection. Allowed part and resource lists limit which vessels can be launched.
With ModControl on in GeneralSettings.xml, the server prevents launches of vessels containing unapproved parts. Turn it off and every player needs an identical mod install, which usually only works in small, tightly coordinated groups.
Not much. Physics is calculated in each player's own game; the server stores vessel, Kerbal and scenario data and hands out updates. 4 GB is more than enough for a group of friends, and bigger plans only come into play for a very busy, long-running universe packed with vessels. The smallest plan runs on the same Ryzen 9 9950X cores, so the CPU is never the bottleneck here.
Players install the LMP client that matches the server's version into KSP. With RegisterWithMasterServer on, your server appears in the in-game list through LMP's master servers, and players join from there in one click. If you have turned the listing off, or players prefer a direct connection, they add the server manually by IP address and port. Share the Password if you set one.
Our datacenter in İstanbul gives players in Türkiye low latency, and those connecting from Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus usually get a good connection too. Interpolation helps orbiting ships look smooth even when the connection has a momentary hiccup.
An LMP server is light and Bronze 4GB covers groups of friends; a larger plan only matters for a crowded universe full of vessels.
Setup proceeds automatically after payment, and the XML files in the Config folder appear on first start; you manage everything at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.
Enter ServerName, Description, Password, MaxPlayers, GameMode and GameDifficulty; set an AdminPassword if you want to administer from inside the game.
Match the port in ConnectionSettings.xml to the one assigned in the panel, and choose Subspace or None in WarpSettings.xml.
Create the mod control file from LMP's settings in KSP, copy it into the server's Config folder over SFTP and restart the server.
Have players install the LMP client matching the server version; they find your server in the in-game list or add it manually by IP and port.
What people ask before setting up a shared Kerbal space program with Luna Multiplayer.
Our İstanbul datacenter runs on Ryzen 9 hardware, delivering low latency to players in Türkiye and good connectivity to Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus.
