The server-side tools for keeping a small, close-knit BeamNG.drive group together.
kissmp-server is open source and built in Rust; its QUIC-based networking layer moves BeamNG vehicles between players with low traffic use and lag compensation.
Next to text chat, KissMP ships its own voice chat, so a convoy or a derby can talk without firing up a separate voice app.
Place vehicle and map mods in the server's mods folder; players download them while connecting, so everyone joins with the same content.
Server-side addons laid out as addons/ADDON_NAME/main.lua never reach players; game modes, commands and admin systems all run from here.
server_name, description, map, max_players, max_vehicles_per_client, tickrate and show_in_server_list all sit together in a single JSON file.
A public KissMP server listed for everyone to see still comes with free DDoS protection on every plan, with nothing extra for you to do.
TheCrewHost hosts KissMP servers from ₺240.00 per month ($6.00), keeping kissmp-server online 24/7 on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in Istanbul. KissMP (KISS Multiplayer) is an open-source multiplayer mod for BeamNG.drive: its server is written in Rust, uses QUIC networking and offers both text and voice chat inside the game. In config.json you set the map, the player and vehicle limits, the tickrate and whether the server shows on the server list. Content you place in the mods folder downloads automatically to connecting players, while Lua addons in the addons folder run your own rules on the server side.
KissMP takes its name from the KISS (keep it simple) principle and is an open-source multiplayer mod for BeamNG.drive. Its server, kissmp-server, is written in Rust and uses QUIC for networking. In the game it offers a server browser with search and favourites, text chat and built-in voice chat, and players can use client-side security settings to block unwanted scripts or downloads.
The project went quiet for a while: after the 0.5.0 release in 2022, no new version appeared for a long stretch. In 2026 a new team of developers published the 0.7 and 0.8 releases, and the project became active again. To be fair, though, the busiest public server list for BeamNG.drive belongs to BeamMP.
So which should you pick? If you want a large public community server that draws players from a list, our BeamMP server is the better choice. If you want a lightweight, open-source server with voice chat built into the game for your own group of friends or a small club, KissMP is a good fit. The two mods cannot connect to each other's servers, so settle on one with your group before you start.
The first time kissmp-server runs, it writes a config.json with default values into its folder. server_name is the name shown on the server list and description is its blurb; to be listed, the name must stay within 64 characters and the description within 256. The map line takes the form /levels/map_name/info.json and points to the smallgrid map by default. The easiest way to find a map's exact path is to load it in single player and run print(getMissionFilename()) in the game console.
max_players defaults to 8 and max_vehicles_per_client to 3; lowering the latter eases the load on players' PCs on a busy server. tickrate is how many updates the server sends per second, 60 by default. show_in_server_list is false out of the box, meaning your server is hidden; set it to true if you want to be public. upnp_enabled is meant for home networks and is not needed on a hosted server.
The port value is handled by the panel and may be written into the file on every start, so leave it alone. Names containing inappropriate words are blocked from the list automatically; if you do not appear, check show_in_server_list first and your server version second.
On first start the server creates two folders: mods and addons. The mods folder holds content for players; drop a vehicle or map mod's zip in there and everyone who connects downloads it. For a modded map, besides placing the zip in mods, change the map line in config.json to that map's path. Players can also fetch big mod packs ahead of time: files they place in the kissmp_mods folder, which sits next to BeamNG's own mods folder, make the first join faster.
The addons folder is for Lua scripts that run on the server and are never sent to players. Each addon lives in its own folder with main.lua as its entry point, so the layout is addons/ADDON_NAME/main.lua. KissMP's Lua API provides hooks for connections, vehicles and vehicle data, and the official documentation includes an example admin system. Community-curated addon lists are a good place to start.
Take a manual backup in the panel before adding a new addon or a big mod, so you can snap back to a working setup if something breaks.
kissmp-server is a light Rust application and does not compute vehicle physics. Physics run in each player's own copy of BeamNG.drive, and the server distributes that information between them. That makes the Bronze plan with 4 GB of memory more than enough for a group of friends or a small club server.
Silver gives disk and memory headroom if you keep big maps and many vehicles in the mods folder, and it is a comfortable choice for servers running several Lua addons together. The resources on Gold and above go beyond what this software needs; the extra vCores on Emerald and Xtreme in particular sit idle.
Two things really drive performance. The first is the players' computers: because each player simulates every vehicle on the server locally, max_players and max_vehicles_per_client need to stay balanced. The second is the connection: our Istanbul datacenter offers players from Türkiye and nearby regions a short route, and unlimited traffic easily covers each newcomer's mod download.
Connecting to KissMP takes two pieces. First, the player puts KISSMultiplayer.zip into BeamNG.drive's user mods folder; the file must be named exactly that, or the mod will not work. Next, they run the bridge application from the release package, kissmp-bridge, and wait for its console to report that the bridge is running. Only then do they launch the game.
In the game, the KissMP interface opens with the server list. If show_in_server_list is on, players can search for your server by name, add it to favourites and connect with one click. A server that is not listed is joined through Direct Connect by entering its IP address and port.
One important detail: matching the players' KissMP version to the server's version gives the most trouble-free result. Since the project resumed releases in 2026, updates may arrive often; whenever you update the server, tell your group to refresh the client mod and the bridge too.
kissmp-server is light and physics run on the player side, so 4 GB Bronze covers a friend group or club server.
Setup starts automatically when payment clears. The first run from the panel creates config.json plus the mods and addons folders.
Set server_name, description, map, max_players and max_vehicles_per_client; set show_in_server_list to true if you want to be listed.
Put vehicle and map zips in the mods folder over SFTP, and Lua addons into the addons folder using the addons/ADDON_NAME/main.lua layout.
Ask everyone to place KISSMultiplayer.zip in their BeamNG mods folder and to run kissmp-bridge before launching the game.
Restart from the panel; players join from the KissMP server list by name, or via Direct Connect with your IP and port.
