What an always-on Convoy session needs, from the package files to the moderator list.
Lobby name, description, welcome message, password, AI traffic limits, player damage and collision rules all sit in the one file the server reads on every start, and you edit it directly.
The dedicated server needs no DLC or mod data of its own. The server_packages files you export from your game carry the map, the DLC list and the mods.
List trusted drivers in moderator_list. They are promoted automatically when they join and can use chat commands such as /set_time and /set_rain_factor.
The convoy keeps running with nobody online, so drivers can join at any hour instead of waiting for whoever used to host from their own PC.
Strong single-thread performance and NVMe disks help the server load its map data quickly after a restart, and DDR5 memory leaves room for large map-mod packages.
Missing server packages error, or a logon token that will not take? Open a ticket, ping us on Discord or WhatsApp, call, or use live chat, day or night.
TheCrewHost runs the official Euro Truck Simulator 2 dedicated server for Convoy from ₺240.00 a month ($6.00), on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in our Istanbul datacenter. For ETS2 groups in Türkiye and around the Black Sea, that means your group drives on a session that stays up when the host logs off, instead of one tied to somebody's gaming PC. You drop in the server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat files exported from your own game, set the lobby name, password and moderators in server_config.sii, and the convoy is ready to roll. This is SCS's built-in Convoy mode, not TruckersMP.
An ETS2 dedicated server is SCS Software's official, headless host for Convoy, the multiplayer mode that arrived in Euro Truck Simulator 2 with update 1.41. It runs a private session for your own group: you choose the map setup, the DLCs and mods, the password and the rules. Convoy sessions are small by design, and SCS's dedicated server documentation caps max_players at 8.
TruckersMP is something else entirely. It is a third-party multiplayer mod with its own public servers, launcher and rulebook, and nobody can rent or run a private TruckersMP server. If your group wants hundreds of trucks on the same highway, TruckersMP is where you go. If you want a closed convoy for your friends, your virtual trucking company or your stream community, with your own traffic, damage and collision settings, a Convoy dedicated server is the right tool.
The practical gain over hosting Convoy from the game menu is simple: the session no longer depends on one person keeping their PC switched on. Drivers can log in after work, finish a night delivery and log off, and the session is still there tomorrow.
Three files in the server's home folder do the work. server_config.sii holds the session description, ports, logon token and moderator list, and a default copy is created on first launch. server_packages.sii describes the map, the essential and optional DLCs and the mod list, while server_packages.dat carries the internal map data that goes with it.
You cannot write the two package files by hand; you generate them in your own game. Set g_console to 1 in config.cfg, load into your profile so the map is running, press the tilde key and type export_server_packages. The game writes both files to its home folder, mirroring exactly the DLC and mod setup you are driving with. Push both to the server over SFTP or through the file manager, then restart.
If the console complains that the server packages file was not found, one of those two files is missing or sits in the wrong folder. The files are not tied to a Steam account, so any member of the group with the right setup can export them. Whenever you add a DLC or a map mod later, export again and replace both files together.
For almost every group the answer is the Bronze plan with 4 GB of RAM. The ETS2 dedicated server renders nothing and loads no DLC or mod assets; it works from the exported map data. Because a session holds at most 8 drivers, more memory will not let more people in, which is why we do not steer anyone toward the bigger tiers for this game.
Silver makes sense if your package combines several large map mods, which makes server_packages.dat considerably bigger, or if you run heavy AI traffic through max_ai_vehicles_player and want spare headroom. Anything from Gold upward is more than this server can use. The extra vCores and memory of Emerald and Xtreme are sized for far heavier games, and a Convoy session would leave them idle.
Location matters far more than memory for how the convoy feels on the road. Our datacenter is in Istanbul, so groups in Türkiye, the Balkans and neighbouring regions reach the session over a short route, and other trucks stop jumping around on the road.
Most of the tuning happens in server_config.sii. lobby_name, description and welcome_message are what drivers see, and password closes the session to outsiders. traffic switches AI traffic on or off, while max_ai_vehicles_player and max_vehicles_total limit how busy the roads get. player_damage decides whether trucks can damage each other, service_no_collision removes collisions in service areas, force_speed_limiter makes everyone drive with the limiter, and name_tags shows names above vehicles.
Because the dedicated server has no interface, you cannot promote anyone while the session is running. Add each moderator's Steam64 ID to moderator_list, set the counter to the number of entries and restart. Once connected, a moderator can type /set_time 08:00 in chat to change the time of day, use /set_rain_factor with a value from 0 to 1 to control rain, and run /help for the list.
When something goes wrong, server.log.txt in the same folder records it, and server.crash.txt appears after a crash. The panel writes a few values such as ports at startup, so if an edit in the file does not stick, check the panel's startup settings. After a major ETS2 patch, make sure the server and every driver run the same game version.
Drivers join from the Convoy menu inside ETS2. The server runs on a public IP, so it can appear in the session browser, but the most reliable route is the search id. When the server starts, the console prints a session search id line; the number before the slash is what players type into the browser's search field. Post that number in your Discord next to the server name.
Out of the box the server logs in anonymously, and an anonymous server receives a new search id every time it starts. For one permanent id, create a logon token on Steam's game server account page and paste it into server_logon_token. One detail trips people up: the token has to be generated with the game's app ID, 227300, not the dedicated server's 1948160, or it will not work. Generating a token also requires owning the game on that Steam account.
Before everyone connects, agree on DLC and mods. The session follows the package you exported, so a driver whose game does not match that setup may be unable to join. Pin the current mod list in your Discord, and set a password if only your own group should get in.
A Convoy session tops out at 8 drivers and the 4 GB Bronze plan already covers that; consider Silver only for very large map-mod packages.
Setup starts automatically once payment clears. Sign in at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net and start the server once so it creates its home folder and a default server_config.sii.
Set g_console to 1 in config.cfg, load your profile, open the console with the tilde key and run export_server_packages to produce both package files.
Place server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat in the server's home folder next to server_config.sii, using SFTP or the panel's file manager.
Set the lobby name, password, welcome message, traffic and damage rules, add moderators by Steam64 ID and, ideally, a logon token generated for app ID 227300.
Restart from the panel, copy the number before the slash in the session search id line, and send it to your drivers for the Convoy browser.
