The pieces that keep a traffic-filled freeroam lobby running, all under your control.
An open-source server written for freeroam. It reads the same server_cfg.ini and entry_list.ini files, then adds traffic, plugin and admin features through extra_cfg.yml.
With EnableAi on, cars marked AI=fixed in entry_list.ini become traffic, and the server manages the highway flow around every connected player.
admins.txt, whitelist.txt and blacklist.txt decide by Steam identity who runs the server, who may enter a closed lobby and who stays out.
EnableAntiAfk and MaxAfkTimeMinutes remove idle cars, while MaxPing and MaxPingSeconds kick high-latency connections, keeping busy lobby slots for real drivers.
AI cars are computed on the server, so the processor matters. High-clocked Ryzen 9 9950X cores help traffic keep flowing smoothly in a full lobby.

TheCrewHost hosts Assetto Corsa freeroam servers with AI traffic from ₺240.00 per month ($6.00). Instead of the race-focused acServer, this server runs AssettoServer, an open-source server built for freeroam that generates traffic on the server side, so players drive through a living traffic flow on long highway maps. Our Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in Istanbul supplies the CPU that traffic simulation asks for. From extra_cfg.yml you control AI traffic, anti-AFK rules, the ping limit, real-time clock and permission lists. If you are after leagues, qualifying and race sessions, our standard Assetto Corsa server is the better choice.
This server replaces Assetto Corsa's stock, race-focused acServer with AssettoServer, an open-source server developed for the freeroam community. It reads the server_cfg.ini and entry_list.ini files you already know and layers new features on top through extra_cfg.yml. The headline feature is AI traffic generated on the server: players drive a long highway or city map inside a real traffic flow, weave through it and cruise in convoys.
On top of that come a clock synced to real time, dynamic weather through Custom Shaders Patch's weather system, anti-AFK rules that remove idle cars, a ping limit and plugin support. That makes it the right tool for cruise meets, night highway runs, car club events and freeroam lobbies that stay open around the clock.
Here is the quick way to choose: if you want racing, qualifying, standings and league rules, pick our standard Assetto Corsa server; if you want traffic, free driving and social meets, pick this Freeroam + AI server. Both use the same game, but the server software and its purpose are different.
Traffic works when three pieces come together. The first is the EnableAi: true line in extra_cfg.yml; with it off, the server spawns no AI at all. The second is entry_list.ini: you mark the slots that should become traffic with AI=fixed, and slots reserved for players stay AI=none. Those entries also decide which car models appear in traffic.
The third piece is where most people get stuck: the track needs an AI spline. AssettoServer reads the lanes traffic follows from the fast_lane.aip file in the content/tracks/track_name/ai folder. Most highway maps made for freeroam ship with that file; if yours does not, no traffic appears. When uploading a map, make sure its ai folder came across complete.
The AiParams section of extra_cfg.yml governs how the traffic behaves. Rather than changing values drastically in one go, adjust them in small steps and test each change in a full lobby. If the server refuses to start after an edit, read the console first; the faulty line or missing file usually shows up in the startup messages.
Because AI traffic is computed on the server, this setup uses clearly more resources than a normal race server. Load grows with two things: the number of connected players and the number of AI cars around each of them. A large lobby spread across a big highway map means the server is running traffic in many different places at once.
That is why we recommend Silver for a typical public traffic server. Bronze is enough for a small server where a few friends cruise through light traffic, and Gold leaves comfortable headroom when you aim for a full lobby with dense traffic on a large map. Platinum and Diamond only make sense if you see memory pressure while running many plugins; on those tiers the vCore count is still four.
Emerald's six vCores are worth considering if the panel shows all four cores pinned in a full lobby. On the network side, NetworkBubbleDistance and OutsideNetworkBubbleRefreshRateHz lower the update rate for far-away cars, easing both bandwidth and load.
The biggest headaches in open lobbies are parked, idle cars and players who join with high ping and disrupt traffic. EnableAntiAfk and MaxAfkTimeMinutes kick anyone who stays still too long, and AfkKickBehavior defines what counts as activity. MaxPing and MaxPingSeconds remove a player whose latency stays above your limit for a set time.
Permissions run through three files under UserGroups: admins.txt holds your admins, whitelist.txt turns the server into a members-only lobby, and blacklist.txt keeps banned players out. UseSteamAuth verifies player identities through Steam, and MandatoryClientSecurityLevel sets the security level required from clients.
For atmosphere, ForceLights keeps everyone's headlights on, which suits night cruise events. EnableRealTime ties the clock to real time, EnableWeatherFx switches on dynamic weather, and RainTrackGripReductionPercent sets how much grip drops in the rain. ServerDescription and LoadingImageUrl let you tailor the lobby description and loading screen image to your community. Taking a manual backup in the panel before a change keeps a working setup from getting lost.
Players find the server by name in the Online tab of Content Manager and connect from there. To get the most out of AssettoServer, having Custom Shaders Patch installed alongside Content Manager is recommended, since dynamic weather, some visual features and several server-side extras rely on CSP. As the admin you can require a minimum CSP version, so players on an older build are turned away until they update.
Every player must have the server's track and cars installed in their own game. Freeroam maps tend to be large downloads, so pinning the links in your Discord saves newcomers from getting stuck on their first attempt. For a closed club lobby, fill in whitelist.txt and set a server password.
Hosting in Istanbul keeps the network path short for drivers joining from Türkiye and the surrounding region. When you run a tight convoy through traffic, that translates into other players' cars showing up in more consistent positions.
Bronze suits a small group with light traffic, Silver a typical public traffic server, and Gold a full lobby on a large map.
AssettoServer is set up automatically after payment. In gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net you get the console, the file manager and the config files in the cfg folder.
Transfer the freeroam map and traffic cars to the content folder over SFTP, and confirm the track's ai folder contains fast_lane.aip.
Define player slots as AI=none and traffic cars as AI=fixed, then update the track and car list in server_cfg.ini to match.
Set EnableAi: true, choose anti-AFK and ping limits, add your own Steam ID to admins.txt and, if you like, require a minimum CSP version.
Restart from the panel and check the console for errors; once the server appears in Content Manager's Online tab, share it with your community.
