Why TheCrewHost for Automobilista 2?

The tools you will use on an AMS2 server, from league night to a practice server that never closes.

The server sets the rules

With controlGameSetup on, track, class and car choice move to the server, and sessionAttributes locks session lengths plus damage, fuel and tyre wear settings.

Automatic rotation with sms_rotate

Reiza's bundled Lua addon moves to the next track and class setup when a race ends, so an open practice server keeps cycling on its own.

HTTP API and web controls

enableHttpApi starts a built-in web server: watch session status, pull track and class lists, and send admin commands as a user in the admin group.

Fill the grid with AI rivals

Keep GridSize above MaxPlayers and set the matching flag, and empty slots fill with AI; OpponentDifficulty sets their level on a scale from 0 to 100.

Steam-verified sessions

With secure enabled, joining players are authenticated through Steam and checked for VAC bans, and a password keeps the server to your league drivers.

Support whenever you race

Server missing from the browser, or a track ID that will not load? Our support desk is reachable around the clock via ticket, Discord, WhatsApp, phone and live chat.

TheCrewHost hosts Automobilista 2 dedicated servers from ₺240.00 per month ($6.00), running Reiza's DedicatedServerCmd around the clock on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in Istanbul. A room opened from inside the game depends on the PC of the player who created it; on a dedicated server the session waits in the browser even with nobody connected. In server.cfg you can lock the track, vehicle class, session lengths, damage and tyre wear rules, and fill the grid with AI opponents. The built-in Lua addons handle track rotation, welcome messages and stats, while the HTTP API lets you watch and manage the server from a browser.

What is an Automobilista 2 dedicated server?

The Automobilista 2 dedicated server is a separate tool Reiza Studios distributes through Steam, and it runs as DedicatedServerCmd. The difference from rooms opened inside the game is that it is not tied to a player's PC: the session stays visible in the server browser with nobody connected, and drivers come and go whenever they like.

That setup shines in three situations. League organizers lock the track, class and rules on the server and race under identical conditions every week. Communities keep a practice server open around the clock and let the tracks rotate by themselves. Small groups of friends fill the grid with AI opponents, so a race with four or five people feels like a full field.

AMS2 ships with a wide official line-up that includes Brazilian circuits such as Interlagos and series such as Stock Car Brasil. The server picks track and vehicle class from that content by numeric ID. The choices a host makes in the in-game lobby are taken over by the server here, so nobody can change the track or the rules halfway through a race.

How is server.cfg laid out?

Everything the server does is defined in server.cfg, and the file comes annotated; lines starting with // are comments. The first block holds the basics. name is what appears in the server browser. password is required both to join and to create sessions, and a password typed in the game's create screen is ignored on a dedicated server. With secure on, players are authenticated through Steam and checked for VAC bans.

maxPlayerCount is the largest session size the server allows. The file's own notes state that the game does not support sessions larger than 32, so choose the value with that in mind. steamPort, hostPort and queryPort are the connection ports and must be reachable from outside. On a hosted server the panel assigns ports, so if a port change in the file does not stick, check the panel's startup settings.

sleepWaiting and sleepActive set how long the server waits between ticks while idle and during a session. Lowering them makes the server slightly more responsive but raises CPU usage. The defaults suit most leagues; if you do change them, move in small steps, and raise logLevel only as far as you need for troubleshooting.

How do you lock the track, cars and rules for every race?

The key is controlGameSetup. When it is true, the server rather than the host controls the game setup, and the starting values in sessionAttributes take effect. Setting ServerControlsTrack, ServerControlsVehicleClass and ServerControlsVehicle to 1 stops drivers from changing track, class or car. With allowEmptyJoin on, the server shows up in the browser even while empty.

Inside sessionAttributes, PracticeLength, QualifyLength and RaceLength set session durations; DamageType, TireWearType, FuelUsageType and PenaltiesType set realism; RaceDateHour and the RaceWeatherSlot values set time and weather. TrackId, VehicleClassId and VehicleModelId are numeric IDs. Instead of guessing them, take the correct values from the HTTP API's /api/list/tracks and /api/list/vehicle_classes endpoints.

The Flags field is a bit sum: permission for driving aids, forcing the same class, automatic engine start and filling the grid with AI are all combined into a single number. When GridSize is larger than MaxPlayers and the AI fill flag is set, empty slots get opponents at the OpponentDifficulty level. Take a manual backup in the panel before touching league settings, because one wrong bit can scramble every rule.

What can you automate with Lua addons and the HTTP API?

The AMS2 server comes with two extension layers. The first is the Lua API: when enableLuaApi is on, the addons named in luaApiAddons are loaded. Among Reiza's bundled addons, sms_rotate cycles through race setups, sms_motd greets joining players with a message and race info, and sms_stats keeps server, session and player statistics. sms_base is the core addon that always loads first. Addons are read from the lua folder, and community-made ones can be uploaded there over SFTP.

The second is the HTTP API. enableHttpApi starts a built-in web server offering both API endpoints and simple browser-based controls. By default it listens only on 127.0.0.1, port 9000. Access is split into public, private and admin levels; you define users with httpApiUsers and the admin group with httpApiGroups.

Before opening the API to the outside world, always put the admin level behind a password, or anyone could run your server. Making it reachable from outside also needs an additional port, so talk to our support team about how to set that up.

Which plan fits, and how do drivers join?

The AMS2 dedicated server draws no graphics and is a light process, so the Bronze plan with 4 GB of memory is enough for most league and practice servers. Silver adds margin if you fill the grid with AI while running several Lua addons and stat logging at the same time. Gold and above exceed what this server needs, and the extra vCores and memory sit idle.

Drivers connect through the server browser in the game's online menu. They search for your server name, select it and enter the password if there is one. A freshly started server can take a little while to appear in the browser; once the console shows the server has switched to its running state, waiting a few minutes is normal.

Our Istanbul datacenter gives drivers from Türkiye and nearby regions a short route to the server. In close racing, everyone driving on similar latency also means fewer arguments after contact.

How to Set Up a Automobilista 2 Server

  1. 1

    Choose Bronze for DedicatedServerCmd

The AMS2 server is light, and 4 GB Bronze suits most leagues. Choose Silver if you plan an AI-filled grid plus several Lua addons.

  2. 2

    Open server.cfg in the panel

The server installs itself after payment. Through gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net you reach the console, the file manager and server.cfg.

  3. 3

    Enter the basic settings

Set name, password and secure in server.cfg, and choose maxPlayerCount with the game's 32-driver session limit in mind.

  4. 4

    Lock track, class and rules

Set controlGameSetup to true, then fill in TrackId, VehicleClassId, session lengths, Flags and, if you want, AI grid filling under sessionAttributes.

  5. 5

    Enable rotation and stats addons

Turn on enableLuaApi and add sms_rotate, sms_motd and sms_stats to luaApiAddons so an open practice server cycles by itself.

  6. 6

    Restart and check the browser

Restart from the panel, watch the console confirm the running state, and after a few minutes search for your server name in the in-game browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from AMS2 leagues and communities planning a practice server.

What does an Automobilista 2 server cost per month?
A 24/7 AMS2 league or practice server starts at ₺240.00 per month ($6.00), and the 4 GB of memory on that Bronze plan carries a full 32-driver session with ease. Of our 7 plans, AMS2 rarely needs anything higher; consider Silver only if you run AI-filled grids alongside several Lua addons.
How many drivers can join one session?
maxPlayerCount in server.cfg accepts higher values, but the file's own notes say the game does not support sessions larger than 32. In practice, GridSize and MaxPlayers in sessionAttributes decide the grid. The Bronze plan comfortably carries a full 32-driver session.
Can I fill the grid with AI opponents?
Yes. Keep GridSize above MaxPlayers in sessionAttributes and set the AI fill flag in the Flags field, and the empty slots fill with AI. OpponentDifficulty, from 0 to 100, sets how strong they are. Groups racing with only a few people get the feel of a full field this way.
Why do I enter the track and class as numbers?
The AMS2 server identifies tracks, classes and cars by numeric IDs. Rather than guessing TrackId and VehicleClassId, take them from the HTTP API's /api/list/tracks and /api/list/vehicle_classes endpoints; Lua addons can read the same lists. Enter a wrong ID and the session will not open on the track you expected.
Can I use DLC tracks and cars?
The server selects from AMS2's official content by ID, DLC included. Drivers who do not own the content, however, may be unable to join a session set on that track or car. When you build a league calendar, announce which DLCs you will use so drivers can get them before race day.
How long does setup take?
DedicatedServerCmd installs automatically when your payment clears, so the real setup time is the few minutes you spend in server.cfg. The rest depends on your settings: enter the name, password and session rules in server.cfg, restart, and the server lands in the browser. The first appearance in the browser can take a few minutes.
Where do drivers find the server in AMS2?
Through the server browser in the game's online menu. They search for your server name, select it and enter the password if you set one. With allowEmptyJoin on, the server is listed even while empty, so the first driver of the evening finds you just as easily.
Are my settings and stats backed up?
Yes. server.cfg and the files your Lua addons write are included in the automatic backups, and you can add a manual backup from the panel whenever you like. The most valuable files in AMS2 are server.cfg and the configuration and stats files of your Lua addons. A manual backup before changing Flags or the rotation list mid-season makes it easy to recover from a bad value.
Is a browser-listed AMS2 server protected, and does upgrading help?
Yes. Free DDoS protection comes switched on with every plan and needs no configuration, a real safeguard for a race server that anyone can see in the browser. If your needs change you can move to a higher plan at any time, though in AMS2 extra RAM does not enlarge the session.
