Why TheCrewHost for Killing Floor 2?

The tools and hardware you actually use when running a KF2 server week after week.

Workshop Map Subscriptions

Paste a Workshop ID into a ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems line and the server fetches the map on boot. With the Workshop download manager enabled, players pull the same map from Steam automatically as they join.

Web Admin in Your Browser

Flip bEnabled=true in KFWeb.ini and the KF2 web admin comes online. Log in as admin with your AdminPassword to change maps, kick or ban players and watch chat without launching the game.

Difficulty and Wave Control

Difficulty values 0 through 3 map to Normal, Hard, Suicidal and Hell on Earth, while GameLength picks 4, 7 or 10 waves. Raise the bar as your squad's perks level up.

Single-Core Speed for Big Waves

The Unreal Engine 3 server leans heavily on one core for game logic. A high-clock Ryzen 9 9950X keeps the server frame steady when dozens of Zeds, bile clouds and explosions fill the screen.

Free DDoS Protection

Public KF2 servers are easy to find and easy to target. Free DDoS protection on every plan filters attack traffic and helps keep your team connected through the Patriarch fight.

NVMe Storage and Auto Backups

As your Workshop cache grows, NVMe keeps map changes quick. Automatic backups let you roll back an ini experiment that broke the map cycle in one step.

TheCrewHost Killing Floor 2 server hosting starts at ₺345.00 per month and gives you your own dedicated server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. It runs in our İstanbul datacenter, so squads in Türkiye and nearby regions get responsive hit registration when a Fleshpound rages. You choose difficulty from Normal to Hell on Earth, set matches to 4, 7 or 10 waves, and subscribe the server to Steam Workshop maps with a single ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems line. Kick players or swap maps mid-session from the built-in web admin in your browser. Setup is automatic after payment, and DDoS protection plus automatic backups come with every plan.

What game modes can you run on a Killing Floor 2 server?

A Killing Floor 2 dedicated server can run Survival, Endless, Weekly Outbreak and Versus Survival. Survival is the classic loop: six players hold out through escalating waves and finish against a boss, and it is where most squads grind perks on Suicidal or Hell on Earth. Endless removes the wave cap and keeps scaling the Zeds, which makes it a favorite for long late-night sessions. Weekly Outbreak rotates special rule sets, and Versus hands part of the lobby control of the Zeds against the human team.

You can lock the server with a game password for your own group or leave it public so it shows up in the server browser. A server near your players also beats the random high-ping lobbies that matchmaking sometimes drops you into. One thing worth knowing before you start adding mods: KF2 tracks a server's ranked status. Stock settings keep it ranked, while non-whitelisted mutators and some script-heavy custom maps can flip it to unranked and affect perk XP gains. Decide early whether your community is there to level perks or to play wild modded rule sets, and configure accordingly.

How much RAM does a KF2 dedicated server need?

For a standard six-player server, Silver 6GB is a comfortable starting point and the smallest plan we offer for this game. Player count is not what drives memory use on a KF2 server; content is. Every Workshop map is downloaded to disk and loaded into memory when it becomes the active level, and big community maps with custom models and audio weigh far more than the stock set. If you plan to rotate fifteen or twenty Workshop maps, Gold 8GB or Platinum 10GB gives you real headroom.

CPU behaves differently. When a wave peaks with dozens of Zeds on screen, one core carries most of the load, so moving between the 4 vCore plans adds RAM and disk rather than making a single server tick faster. Pushing the slot count past six with a mutator increases both the Zed count and network traffic, and that is where Diamond 12GB or the 6 vCore Emerald 16GB start to make sense. Every plan includes at least 60 GB of NVMe storage, which easily holds the game files and a sizable Workshop cache, though pruning maps nobody votes for anymore keeps things tidy.

How do you add Workshop maps and mutators?

Adding a Workshop map takes three small edits, all doable from the control panel's file manager or over SFTP. Stop the server first: KF2 writes its in-memory settings back to the ini files on shutdown, so edits made while it runs can be silently overwritten.

First, in the KFEngine.ini file, add one ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems= line per map under the [OnlineSubsystemSteamworks.KFWorkshopSteamworks] section, using the number from the map's Workshop URL. Second, make sure the [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver] section contains DownloadManagers=OnlineSubsystemSteamworks.SteamWorkshopDownload, which is what lets clients grab the map from Steam. Third, in KFGame.ini, add the map to your GameMapCycles list and create a KFMapSummary entry with its name so it appears in the rotation and the end-of-match vote.

Mutators load through the ?Mutator= option on the server's launch line. The community has built mutators that raise the player cap, rebalance perks or tweak spawn rates. Add them one at a time and check the console output after each restart; when something breaks, you will know exactly which mutator caused it.

Config files, web admin and day-to-day management

Killing Floor 2 keeps its settings in ini files under KFGame/Config. On Windows builds they are named PCServer-KFGame.ini and PCServer-KFEngine.ini; the Linux build generates the same files with a LinuxServer- prefix. KFGame.ini holds gameplay rules such as server name, AdminPassword, difficulty, game length and the map cycle, while KFEngine.ini covers networking and Workshop subscriptions.

The web admin is the tool KF2 admins live in. Once bEnabled=true is set in KFWeb.ini, it listens on port 8080 by default; the username is admin and the password is the AdminPassword from KFGame.ini. From there you change maps, queue the next difficulty, kick or ban, and read chat. If several people moderate the server, switch the web admin to its multi-admin authentication so everyone gets a separate login instead of sharing one password.

Whenever Tripwire ships a patch, the server files need to match the new client version or players will fail to connect with a version mismatch. Before a big config change, take a manual backup from the panel on top of the automatic ones; it takes seconds and saves an evening of guesswork.

How do players join your KF2 server?

Players can join through the in-game server browser or directly by IP from the console. In the browser, searching for your server name and setting the difficulty and mode filters correctly is usually enough, as long as the server is public. The faster route is the console: open it in game, type open followed by your server's IP:port, and the client connects straight away. You will find the IP and port in your control panel as soon as the server is provisioned.

To keep the server private, set a game password in KFGame.ini and share it with your squad on Discord. The first time someone joins a server running a Workshop map, they may wait a few minutes while the map downloads; after that it loads from their local cache. If a friend cannot connect, check versions first: both the client and the server must be on the current patch. Still stuck? Send the connection lines from the panel console to our support team and we will look at it with you, around the clock.

How to Set Up a Killing Floor 2 Server

  1. 1

    Pick a plan

Silver 6GB covers six-player Survival on stock maps; choose Gold or Platinum for a large Workshop rotation. You can upgrade later without reinstalling anything.

  2. 2

Check out and let provisioning run

Once payment clears, the KF2 server files install automatically and your server appears in gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net with its IP address and port.

  3. 3

Stop the server and edit KFGame.ini

Set the server name, AdminPassword, difficulty and game length in the file manager. Edit while the server is stopped so shutdown does not overwrite your changes.

  4. 4

    Subscribe to Workshop maps

Add ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems lines to KFEngine.ini, list the maps in GameMapCycles with matching KFMapSummary entries in KFGame.ini, then start the server and let the downloads finish.

  5. 5

    Turn on the web admin

Set bEnabled=true in KFWeb.ini, restart, and log in from your browser as admin to confirm you can change maps and manage players remotely.

  6. 6

    Bring in your squad

Share the IP:port and game password. Friends join from the server browser or type open with the address in the console, then gear up for wave one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what people ask before renting a Killing Floor 2 server.

How much does a Killing Floor 2 server cost?
Killing Floor 2 hosting starts at ₺345.00 per month ($8.63) with the Silver 6GB plan, and there are 6 plans in total. Live prices are shown on the order page. Plans differ by RAM, NVMe space and, on the top tiers, vCore count. You can move up to a larger plan at any time without losing files.
Which plan should I choose for KF2?
Silver 6GB handles a standard six-player Survival server on stock maps. If you plan to pull lots of Workshop maps, Gold 8GB or Platinum 10GB is more comfortable. Raising the slot cap with mutators or running heavy mod packs points to Diamond or the 6 vCore Emerald plan. When in doubt, start smaller and upgrade.
Do players have to download Workshop maps manually?
No. If KFEngine.ini includes DownloadManagers=OnlineSubsystemSteamworks.SteamWorkshopDownload, clients download the map from Steam Workshop automatically when they connect. They wait for the download on their first visit, and the map loads from cache afterwards. On the server side, the map must be subscribed with a ServerSubscribedWorkshopItems line and listed in GameMapCycles.
How do I log in to the KF2 web admin?
Set bEnabled=true in KFWeb.ini and restart the server. Then open your server IP with the web admin port in a browser; KF2 uses 8080 by default, so use the port assigned in your panel if it differs. The username is admin and the password is the AdminPassword from KFGame.ini, so make it a strong one.
Do players earn perk XP on a custom server?
On a server running stock settings, players earn perk XP normally. Non-whitelisted mutators and some script-heavy custom maps can change the server's ranked status and switch XP gain off. If your community is focused on leveling, stick to stock rules and simple Workshop maps; for a fun server, accept the trade-off and add your mods.
How long does setup take?
Provisioning starts automatically once payment is confirmed, and the server is ready to start in your panel as soon as the game files finish installing, usually within a short time. From there you set the name, password and difficulty and launch the first match. Workshop maps add some download time on the first boot after you subscribe to them.
How do my friends connect?
The quickest way is to open the in-game console and type open followed by the IP:port shown in your panel. Public servers can also be found by name in the server browser. If you set a game password, it is requested when connecting. Anyone who cannot get in should first make sure the game is fully updated on Steam.
How are backups handled?
Your server is backed up automatically, and you can create manual backups from the panel too. On a KF2 server, the ini files and Workshop list change most often, so take a manual backup before trying a large mutator or map pack and you can restore the previous setup in one step if it goes wrong.
Is DDoS protection included, and can I upgrade?
Yes. DDoS protection is free and always on for every Killing Floor 2 plan, with nothing to configure. As your community or Workshop library grows, you can switch to a bigger plan whenever you like and keep all files and settings. Our 24/7 support team is reachable by ticket, Discord, WhatsApp, phone and live chat.
Who benefits most from an Istanbul-based KF2 server?
Our servers run only in our İstanbul datacenter. That means low latency for squads in Türkiye and generally good connections for players across Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus. In KF2, headshots and stun timing depend on responsive hit registration, so a nearby server makes a noticeable difference on higher difficulties.
