Resources sized for Sandstorm's AI-heavy co-op and crowded PvP, with full file access and mod.io support.
List mod IDs line by line in Mods.txt and give the server a read-only access token from your mod.io account; custom maps and mods then download to your server.
Line up scenario names starting with Scenario_ in MapCycle.txt to decide which mode and which side are played on each map.
Add admins' 64-bit Steam IDs to Admins.txt, and they can kick players, change maps and manage votes from inside the game.
Round times, co-op enemy counts, AI difficulty and mode-specific rules all live in Game.ini, so you can build a realistic or action-heavy server to suit your group.
In Checkpoint, every insurgent bot thinks, moves and shoots on the server. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed keeps things consistent as the attack waves roll in.
Watch server output live in the panel console, enable RCON to send commands remotely, and catch mod download errors on the very first boot.
At TheCrewHost, an Insurgency: Sandstorm server costs from ₺440.00 per month ($11.00). Because the server for this Unreal Engine 4 tactical shooter manages dozens of AI insurgents at once in co-op, plans start at the Gold tier with 8 GB of DDR5 memory. Setup is automatic after payment; you edit Game.ini, Admins.txt, MapCycle.txt and Mods.txt in the panel to set scenarios, admins and mod.io mods. From Istanbul, the server gives players in Türkiye low ping, which you feel directly in a firefight lost to a single round from a rooftop.
An Insurgency: Sandstorm server can run co-op modes against AI or PvP modes with up to 14 players per side. Developed by New World Interactive on Unreal Engine 4, the game is a tactical shooter known for low health, realistic ballistics and a minimal HUD, where communication and squad discipline matter as much as aim.
Checkpoint is the heart of co-op: the team takes objectives in sequence while insurgents periodically counterattack to win them back. Hardcore Checkpoint delivers the same experience under harsher rules, and Outpost and Survival round out the co-op options. On the PvP side you have Push, Firefight, Skirmish, Domination, Frontline and Team Deathmatch, among others. Community servers usually build an identity around one mode, such as a calm late-night Checkpoint crew or a packed weekend Push server. On your own server you can change the rules with mutators, running sessions where only headshots kill or where hardcore settings apply.
Our Sandstorm plans start with 8 GB of memory, a realistic floor for a vanilla co-op or PvP server. The Unreal Engine 4 server juggles map data, player state and, in co-op, dozens of AI insurgents at once, and custom maps and mods pulled from mod.io add to both memory and disk use.
Our recommendation: Gold covers a small co-op team playing vanilla Checkpoint or an unmodded PvP server. Platinum is the more comfortable margin for full 14v14 PvP or co-op with raised enemy counts. For community servers running several custom maps and mods, Diamond is the safe pick. Emerald, with 6 vCores, gives extra CPU breathing room on servers that run very high bot counts alongside a heavy mod list. Xtreme, with 12 vCores and 32 GB, is usually more than a single Sandstorm server needs. On disk, remember that every custom map takes space; keeping the mod list lean eases both storage and startup time.
Sandstorm keeps its settings in two places. Gameplay and engine settings are in Game.ini, Engine.ini and GameUserSettings.ini inside the server folder under Insurgency/Saved/Config (LinuxServer on Linux servers). The admin list, map rotation and mod list live in Admins.txt, MapCycle.txt and Mods.txt in the Insurgency/Config/Server folder.
Game.ini carries settings such as round times, co-op enemy counts, AI difficulty and mode-specific rules. MapCycle.txt defines one scenario per line; scenario names begin with Scenario_ and specify the map, mode and side together. Admins.txt holds admins' 64-bit Steam IDs, one per line. The server name, player cap, ports and active mutators are passed as launch parameters; if you are not sure how to change those in the panel, just message our support team. Enable RCON through the launch parameters with a password and you can manage the server with remote commands too. Backing up before every major change lets you recover quickly when a bad .ini line keeps the server from starting.
Insurgency: Sandstorm mods are distributed through mod.io, and your server downloads them from there directly. First, create an OAuth access token with read-only permission in the API access section of your mod.io account; write access is not needed. Add that token to the server's .ini settings, then write the numeric IDs of the mods you want into Mods.txt, one per line. For the mods to load, the server has to be launched with mod support enabled.
Custom maps need a little more care: add the map's scenario to MapCycle.txt and set the launch options that let the server travel to that map. Mutators are enabled in the launch parameters as comma-separated names and are case-sensitive. If a mod fails to download or install, the server may never reach a joinable state, so watch the console for mod.io errors on the first boot after adding mods. Startup time grows with the mod list, and a lean list always runs more smoothly.
Players find your server in the in-game server browser by name, or by filtering on mode and map, and join from there. Anyone who wants to connect directly can open the in-game console and type open followed by the IP and game port. Sandstorm uses 27102 for game traffic and 27131 for server queries by default; your server's assigned ports are shown in the panel, and the server only appears in the list when the query port is right.
Password-protected servers are ideal for closed clan practice and events. On co-op servers, scaling the enemy count in Game.ini to your player count means a four-person squad and a bigger fireteam both have a good time. From Istanbul, the server offers low ping to players in Türkiye and a balanced connection for those joining from Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus; in a game where firefights end in moments, consistent latency is the precondition for a fair match.
The 8 GB Gold plan handles vanilla co-op or unmodded PvP; choose Platinum or Diamond for full 14v14 matches and modded servers.
The server installs automatically once payment is confirmed. Start it once from the control panel and confirm in the console that it boots cleanly.
Add your Steam ID to Admins.txt and list the scenarios you want to play, by their Scenario_ names, in MapCycle.txt.
Set round times, co-op enemy counts and AI difficulty in Game.ini to match the way your community likes to play.
Get a read-only access token from mod.io, write mod IDs into Mods.txt, and watch the console on first boot for mod download errors.
Share the server name and any password on Discord; players join from the server browser or with the open command in the console.
