What it takes to keep a modded Valheim server healthy: a ready loader, an open file layout and logs that point at the problem.
The server ships with BepInEx in place. Drop plugins into the plugins folder and restart; no fiddling with doorstop files or custom launch scripts.
Manage BepInEx/plugins and BepInEx/config through the file manager or SFTP, so adding, removing or retuning a mod is a job of a few minutes.
Watch plugins load in the live console at startup, and after a crash open LogOutput.log to find the failing mod or the dependency it is missing.
Mods built on ServerSync push the server's .cfg values to connecting players, so drop rates and crafting rules stay identical for everyone.
Choose from 4 GB to 32 GB depending on whether you run a handful of tweaks or dozens of content mods, and move up whenever the list grows.
Since a Valheim patch can break mods, back up plugins, configs and world files together before updating and roll everything back if something goes wrong.
Our Valheim BepInEx server starts at $6.00 per month (₺240.00) and arrives with the BepInEx mod loader preinstalled, so you skip the loader setup and go straight to building your mod list. It runs in İstanbul on a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe SSD storage. Upload the DLLs you grab from Thunderstore into BepInEx/plugins over SFTP, tune each mod's .cfg file under BepInEx/config, and when a plugin refuses to load, LogOutput.log tells you exactly which one failed and why. It is built for groups running content mods like Epic Loot, or communities that want to push past the vanilla player cap.
This server is aimed at groups who want to play Valheim with mods. On a standard Valheim server you would first have to place BepInEx on the server by hand and adjust the launch configuration to load it; here that work is done, and the first boot creates the full BepInEx folder layout.
A simple way to decide between our Valheim options: if crossplay and a clean game matter most, the vanilla Valheim server needs the least upkeep. If all you want are the familiar ValheimPlus improvements, such as crafting from nearby chests, shared map exploration and building helpers, the Valheim Plus Mod server gets you there fastest. If you want to mix several mods, run Jotunn-based content packs or add new weapons, creatures and loot systems, this BepInEx server is the right home.
Be realistic about maintenance. After every major Valheim patch you will need to track compatible mod versions and occasionally switch a few off until their authors release an update.
Every mod you download from Thunderstore is a zip that usually contains a manifest.json, a README and one or more DLLs. On the server it is the DLLs that matter: upload them, inside their own folder if the package uses one, to BepInEx/plugins. The dependencies line in manifest.json lists the libraries the mod needs; skip a dependency like Jotunn and the mod simply will not load.
The first time a mod runs, it writes its own settings file into BepInEx/config. That makes the right order: upload the mod, start and stop the server once, then edit the freshly created .cfg and start again.
When something breaks, BepInEx/LogOutput.log is your first stop. Missing dependencies, mods compiled for an older game version and conflicts between two plugins all show up there as error lines. To disable a suspect mod, move its DLL out of the plugins folder instead of deleting it, so you can bring it back later.
Most Valheim mods have to be installed on the server and on every player's PC at the same version. The most practical approach is to build the server's list as a profile in r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager, export the profile as a code and share it with your group. Friends import the code and launch the game through the mod manager, which puts everyone on an identical list.
Some mods run purely server-side and need nothing on the player's end, while others are client-only, such as interface tweaks. The mod page usually says which is which. Mods built on Jotunn can check versions at connection time and turn away a player whose setup differs, naming the mismatched mod.
On crossplay, the answer is straightforward: console players cannot run BepInEx. A server that requires client-side mods is effectively PC-only. If someone in your group plays on a console, either stick to server-side mods or run the vanilla server instead.
A small group running a handful of quality-of-life mods is still fine on 4 GB. What drives memory is less the number of mods than what they do: a mod that tweaks a few values barely registers, while content mods that add creatures, items and build pieces cost real memory at load time and during play.
In practice, a mixed list of 10 to 20 mods with 10 players sits comfortably in the 6–8 GB range. Once you combine dozens of content mods, a raised player cap and a world that has been growing for a long time, 10–16 GB starts to make sense. Mods also tend to place more objects in the world, so the .db file grows faster than it would in vanilla.
The CPU picture does not change with mods: Valheim still leans on a single core, and every Harmony patch adds a little work to the main loop. That makes the Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed even more noticeable on a modded server than on a vanilla one.
Iron Gate patches can break mods, and the 1.0 release in September 2026 was a good example, with many mods needing days to publish compatible builds. Because players get the patch from Steam automatically, holding the server back is not always an option, so it pays to have a routine.
A safe sequence looks like this: back up the plugins, config and worlds_local folders from the panel first. Then update the server and the BepInEx pack, bump your mods to their newest Thunderstore versions and start the server. Use LogOutput.log to find plugins that throw errors, move them out of the plugins folder one at a time until the server boots cleanly, and add them back once their updates arrive.
Take extra care when removing mods that place persistent objects. Pull a content mod from the list and the build pieces and items it added can vanish from the world. A world backup taken right before that kind of change is the easiest way to avoid a mistake you cannot undo.
Bronze or Silver handles a few light mods; a list full of content mods and a bigger group will run with far fewer headaches on Gold or above.
Setup completes automatically after payment. Start and stop the server once so BepInEx creates its folder structure and its first log files.
Put the DLLs from each Thunderstore package into BepInEx/plugins over SFTP, and add dependencies such as Jotunn that are listed in manifest.json.
Run the server once more, stop it, then edit the new .cfg files under BepInEx/config to set values like player caps or drop rates.
Recreate the same list in r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager, export the profile code and send it to the group so everyone launches through the manager.
Join with the IP:port shown in the panel; if a player is rejected, LogOutput.log and the console usually show which mod version does not match.
The sticking points people hit when running a modded Valheim server: the loader, compatibility, crossplay and patches.
