Why TheCrewHost for Aloft?

The tools and hardware that keep a floating archipelago running.

Build the world to your scale

Map name, island count and mode are set when the world is created. Choose something like 250 or 500 islands, and pick Survival or Creative.

Headless server commands

The server runs with -batchmode and -nographics, skipping rendering entirely. Values such as servername, playercount and serverport in the load command define its identity.

Private islands and admin list

Use privateislands to lock players' home islands to everyone else, and add Steam IDs to the admin parameter to give trusted friends control.

Room codes and browser visibility

The server writes its join code to ServerRoomCode.txt. With isvisible on, it also appears in the in-game browser; with it off, only people holding the code get in.

Saves and log files

Your world save is backed up automatically. Since output.log is rewritten on each start, grab it over SFTP whenever you are chasing down an error.

Support whenever you need it

Aloft server hosting starts at $6.00 per month for a server on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in Istanbul, Türkiye, with 4 GB to 32 GB of RAM to choose from. An Aloft server is a headless copy of the game running without graphics: you create the world once with an island count and game mode, then load that same save on every start. The game supports co-op for up to eight players, and with a hosted server your friends can keep restoring islands and upgrading ship-islands while you are offline. Players join with the room code the server generates or through the server browser.

Why rent an Aloft server?

Aloft is a survival and building game set on islands above the clouds, developed by Astrolabe Interactive and published by Funcom. You clear islands overrun by fungal corruption, rebalance their ecosystems, and eventually turn a whole island into a ship that sails the open sky. Automation with windmills and cables, farming and animal husbandry round out the loop.

The game supports co-op for up to eight players. Normally the world lives on the host's PC, so nobody can continue while that person is offline. With your own server the world is always reachable: one friend can steer the ship to a new island cluster in the evening while someone else harvests the fields the next morning.

For crews that play at different hours, a server stops shared progress from depending on one person's schedule. And in a shared world, settings like privateislands let everyone keep their own space safe.

How does an Aloft server actually run?

Instead of a separate server program, Aloft runs the game itself without a graphical interface, launched with -batchmode and -nographics. The developers provide two scripts: AloftServerNoGuiCreate.ps1 to create a new world and AloftServerNoGuiLoad.ps1 to load an existing one.

In the create step, the create command takes the map name (no spaces), the island count and a Creative value, where 0 means Survival and 1 means Creative. These are locked once the world has been generated, so agree on island count and mode with your group up front.

The load step is where you set servername for the display name, playercount for the player cap, serverport for the port, isvisible for browser listing and privateislands for island protection. The admin parameter can be repeated to grant several Steam IDs admin rights at once, and disablevideo prevents shader errors while running headless.

How much RAM do you need, and which plan fits?

Because the server does no rendering, it is far lighter than the game client's requirements suggest, and a small group can start on Bronze 4GB. What actually drives memory is the island count, how many separate island clusters players occupy at once, and how large the automation in your bases gets.

Ship-islands load new areas as they move. If the crew travels together on one ship the load stays low; if everyone flies off in a different direction on their own island, the server has to simulate all of those areas at the same time.

A practical guide: Bronze 4GB for two to four players on a 250-island world, Silver 6GB for groups nearing the full eight, and Gold 8GB for 500-island worlds and long campaigns. With co-op capped at eight players, most of what Diamond and higher tiers offer goes unused, and you can always upgrade later if you need to.

How do players join an Aloft server?

You do not connect to Aloft by IP address or hostname; there are two ways in. The first is the room code. On startup the server generates a code, prints it to the console and saves it to ServerRoomCode.txt. Friends enter that code on the in-game join screen and land straight on your server.

The second is the server browser. If isvisible is set to true in the load command, your server appears in the in-game list and players can search for it by name. If you only want to play with people you know, switching visibility off and sharing the code privately is the simplest approach.

After a restart, check ServerRoomCode.txt or the panel console in case the code has changed. When friends cannot connect, the first thing to rule out is an outdated code, and the second is a game version that does not match the server.

Administration, backups and updates

Aloft is updated regularly, and the server has to run the same version as its players. Back up the world before any big update so you have a point to roll back to if the new version will not load the old save. Automatic backups are already on for every plan, and you can take manual ones from the panel as well.

Your first troubleshooting source is output.log. The server overwrites it on every restart, so when you catch an error, download the log over SFTP and keep a copy. It is also worth noting down the contents of ServerRoomCode.txt after the first setup so the code is never lost.

On the permissions side, only add Steam IDs you trust to the admin parameter. On a server that shows up in the public browser, setting privateislands to true makes it much harder for strangers to damage players' home islands. Free DDoS protection helps keep public servers reachable too.

How to Set Up a Aloft Server

  1. 1

Choose a plan for your crew size

Bronze 4GB handles two to four players on 250 islands; groups approaching eight or worlds with 500 islands should take Silver or Gold.

  2. 2

Let setup finish and open the panel

Once payment is confirmed, installation starts on its own and you get the console, file manager and backups at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.

  3. 3

Create the world with island count and mode

Enter a map name without spaces, set the island count and choose Survival or Creative. These values cannot be changed after the world is generated.

  4. 4

Set the server name, player cap and admins

Fill in servername, playercount, isvisible and privateislands, and add your own Steam ID plus those of trusted friends to the admin parameter.

  5. 5

Share the room code with your crew

Send friends the code shown in the console or in ServerRoomCode.txt; if browser visibility is on, they can also search for your server name.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before starting an Aloft server.

How much does an Aloft server cost?
Plans start at $6.00 per month with Bronze 4GB, and there are 7 tiers in total. Each comes with a Ryzen 9 9950X, DDR5 memory, NVMe storage and free DDoS protection; RAM, vCores and disk space are what change between them. The order page lists current prices.
Which plan fits me, and how much RAM do I need?
Bronze 4GB is enough for two to four players on a 250-island world. If you are close to a full crew of eight, take Silver 6GB, and for a long-running 500-island world we suggest Gold 8GB. Because co-op tops out at eight players, higher tiers add little for most groups.
How do my friends join the server?
Aloft does not use IP addresses for joining. The server creates a room code at startup and writes it to ServerRoomCode.txt; friends enter it on the in-game join screen. If isvisible is on, your server also shows up in the in-game browser and can be found by name.
Does Aloft support mods on the server?
Server customization in Aloft comes from launch parameters: island count, Survival or Creative, private islands and player cap. We have no verified information about an official mod loader or Workshop support for the server. You do get full file access through the file manager and SFTP, but take a backup before experimenting.
How long does setup take?
Installation starts automatically once payment is confirmed, and the game files are downloaded to your server. You then create the world with your island count and mode, set the load options and start the server. The room code appears in the console and in ServerRoomCode.txt once it is running.
Should I pick Survival or Creative?
Survival has you gathering resources, fighting fungal corruption and progressing step by step, and it is what most co-op groups choose. Creative suits servers focused on building and design. The mode is chosen at world creation and cannot be changed later, so settle it with your group first.
Is my world backed up?
Yes, automatic backups are included on every plan and you can take a manual backup from the panel whenever you like. We especially recommend one before game updates, so you can roll back if a new version has trouble loading the old save. Snapshotting after a big milestone is a good habit too.
Does the server get DDoS protection, and can I move to a bigger plan?
Free DDoS protection comes with every plan. If your crew grows or you move to a larger world, you can upgrade to a higher plan whenever you want; your world save and settings carry over, and only the available memory, CPU and disk space increase.
Can other players damage my island?
Set privateislands to true in the load options and each player's home island is closed to others. That matters most on servers listed publicly in the browser. For a fully private group, set isvisible to false and share the room code only with your friends.
