Built around what actually takes up a Valheim admin's time: world files, access lists and keeping up with patches.
Download or upload the .db and .fwl files in worlds_local through SFTP or the file manager, so moving a single-player world onto the server takes minutes.
Adding -crossplay switches the server to the PlayFab backend, letting players on Xbox, PC Game Pass and other supported platforms join the same world as your Steam friends.
Edit adminlist.txt, bannedlist.txt and permittedlist.txt straight from the panel, lock the server to people you know and keep griefers out for good.
Use -preset, -modifier and -setkey to set combat difficulty, death penalty, raid frequency, resource rates and portal rules once for everyone on the server.
Valheim leans heavily on one core, so the high-clocked Ryzen 9 9950X paired with DDR5 memory keeps big raids and sprawling bases in sync.
When Iron Gate ships a patch, update the server from the panel to match your players' version, with an automatic backup already in place for large updates.
TheCrewHost Valheim server hosting starts at $6.00 per month (₺240.00) and gets you a dedicated server that installs itself after payment and stays online around the clock. It runs in İstanbul on an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe SSD storage, which keeps latency low for players in Türkiye and nearby regions. Add -crossplay to the launch parameters to bring in friends from platforms outside Steam, and move your .db and .fwl world files in and out over SFTP. Nobody has to keep their PC running anymore: one Viking can grind iron in the Swamp at midnight while another logs in the next morning to tend the farm.
A dedicated server decouples your world from whoever created it. A world opened through the in-game Host option shuts down the moment that player quits, while a hosted server keeps bases, chests and portals available to the whole group at any hour. If your crew plays on different schedules, that alone justifies it.
Vanilla Valheim accepts up to 10 players at once. That covers most friend groups and small clans comfortably; larger communities push past it with BepInEx-based mods. The world name and seed decide how the map generates, and you can bring over a world you started in single-player without losing a single building.
Valheim 1.0 launched in September 2026 with the Deep North and took the game out of Early Access. Patches like that require the server and every client to be on the same version, and because updating is a single action in the panel, your group can start on new content the same day it drops.
For a fresh world and a vanilla group of two to five players, 4 GB of RAM is enough. Valheim's memory use tracks the number of objects in the world more than the number of players: every wall piece, chest, torch, dropped item and tamed animal counts, and the .db file grows with them.
A late-game world with lots of explored territory and several large bases runs far more comfortably at 6–8 GB when all 10 slots are filled. Once BepInEx mods enter the picture, each adds its own overhead, and lists with dozens of mods justify 10 GB or more.
On the CPU side, single-core speed is what matters. During a busy raid or inside a castle built from hundreds of pieces, the server's main loop does the heavy lifting, which is exactly where a high-clocked Ryzen 9 9950X helps. Storage shows up mostly at save time: Valheim pauses briefly while it writes the world, and NVMe keeps that hitch as short as possible.
You enable crossplay by adding -crossplay to the server's launch parameters. With that flag the server uses the PlayFab backend, so players on Xbox, PC Game Pass and other supported platforms can connect; without it, the server runs on Steam networking only.
The password rule trips up a lot of first-time admins: it must be at least five characters long and must not appear anywhere in the server name. Break either rule and the server throws an error on startup. Use -public 1 to list the server in the community browser, or -public 0 to hide it so only people with the address can join.
Access is controlled by three text files in the save folder: adminlist.txt for admins, bannedlist.txt for bans and permittedlist.txt for the whitelist. Put one player ID per line; the official guide formats IDs with a platform prefix, such as Steam_ followed by the SteamID64. Admins can open the F5 console in game and run kick, ban, unban and save. As soon as permittedlist.txt has entries, anyone not on it is refused, so add your own ID first.
Every Valheim world is a pair of files. The .fwl holds identity data such as the world name and seed, while the .db holds everything placed in the world: structures, chest contents, dropped items and creatures. Move one without the other and the world will not load. On the server they live in the worlds_local folder inside the save directory; on your own Windows PC, look under %USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local.
By default the server saves every 1800 seconds, or every half hour, and -saveinterval changes that. The game also keeps rotating backups of its own: -backups sets how many copies to keep, and -backupshort and -backuplong control how often they are taken.
On top of that, the TheCrewHost panel runs automatic backups and lets you take a manual one whenever you like. Taking a snapshot before a major patch, a mod experiment or a risky boss attempt is a habit worth building. To roll back, stop the server and restore the .db and .fwl from the same backup together.
Vanilla is the lowest-maintenance way to run Valheim: when a patch lands you update the server and you are done, and crossplay players keep connecting without issues. If you want mods, BepInEx is the standard loader for the game; mods usually come from Thunderstore and go into the BepInEx/plugins folder.
Two things are worth knowing up front. Most mods must be installed on the server and on every player's PC at the same version. And console players cannot run BepInEx at all, so a server that requires client-side mods effectively turns crossplay off.
That is why we offer separate options. If you plan to build a mod list, the Valheim BepInEx server ships with the loader already in place. If you only want well-known quality-of-life changes like crafting from nearby chests, shared map exploration and building tweaks, the Valheim Plus Mod server is the shorter path. If a pure experience and crossplay matter most, stick with the vanilla server on this page. After big patches such as 1.0, expect to wait for mod authors to catch up.
In Valheim, lag does not always come from the server. The game often hands the simulation of an area's creatures and objects to one of the players standing in it, so when someone with a poor connection becomes the owner of a zone, everyone nearby sees stuttering mobs and rubber-banding. If the problem only appears when the same person is around, check their connection before blaming the host.
The second big culprit is object density. A single base made of thousands of pieces, hundreds of items dropped on the ground or wolf and boar herds that were allowed to breed unchecked all weigh on the server and on every client entering that area. Clearing loose items into chests and keeping animal numbers in check noticeably reduces those spikes.
If players get a version mismatch message when connecting, the cause is nearly always that the game patched and the server did not, or the other way round. Update from the panel and restart. A short freeze during world saves is normal and grows slightly as the world gets bigger.
Bronze 4GB covers a small group starting fresh; a full crew of 10 heading into late game, or planning to add mods later, will be more comfortable on Silver or Gold.
Once payment clears, the Valheim server files install automatically and your login appears at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net, so there is nothing to download or compile yourself.
Fill in the server name and the -world value in the startup settings. Keep the password at least five characters and out of the server name, or startup will fail.
Drop your .db and .fwl files into worlds_local over SFTP and set -world to match their file name, and the world loads with every structure intact.
Add -crossplay if friends are joining from consoles or Game Pass, then use a -preset or individual -modifier values to make the run gentler or harsher.
Start the server, confirm the console shows no errors, add your platform ID to adminlist.txt and share the IP:port shown in the panel with your friends.
