Run The Forest's dedicated server software in a ready environment, complete with save slots and admin tools.
Change difficulty, veganMode, vegetarianMode, treeRegrowMode and allowBuildingDestruction straight from the file manager to shape how brutal the peninsula feels.
Players who connect with serverPasswordAdmin can run /save, /kick, /ban and /shutdown from in-game chat without ever touching the panel.
The slot setting writes the world to one of slots 1 through 5, and initType Continue makes every restart pick up exactly where the group stopped.
A Steam game server token in serverSteamAccount makes sure player progress is saved, and enableVAC switches on Valve's anti-cheat for the server.
targetFpsIdle keeps the server ticking slowly while nobody is online, and targetFpsActive sets how smoothly the simulation runs once players connect.
The server runs nonstop in İstanbul, so one friend can chop logs at 2 a.m. and you can return to the same camp the next day to continue the cave run.
The Forest server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 ($6.00) per month with 4 GB of RAM and runs Endnight Games' official The Forest Dedicated Server. The camp you built on the cannibal-infested peninsula after the plane crash stays online in İstanbul no matter who launched the game. In config.cfg you set the difficulty, the enemy-free vegan mode, tree regrowth and whether structures can be destroyed, while players who join with the admin password get chat commands to save, kick and ban. A Ryzen 9 9950X and NVMe SSD keep saves quick.
In The Forest, multiplayer normally runs on one player's PC. When that player quits, everyone is kicked off the peninsula and the world only resumes when they come back. Endnight Games added a separate tool to fix this: The Forest Dedicated Server. It runs without a graphical interface, keeps the world alive on its own and accepts players from the server list.
On a hosted server that software stays up in İstanbul around the clock. Your camp, traps, tree houses and log piles live in one world that does not depend on anyone's PC. The game is built for co-op, and serverPlayers defaults to 8, so a dedicated server here is ideal for a group of friends rather than a big public community.
One quick note: Sons of the Forest is a separate game with its own server software. The plans and settings on this page are for the original The Forest.
Everything about the server comes from config.cfg. Each line is a key followed by a value; edit the file while the server is stopped and start it again afterwards.
Start with serverName, serverPassword and serverPasswordAdmin. The difficulty line accepts Peaceful, Normal, Hard or HardSurvival. Turning veganMode on removes enemies entirely, while vegetarianMode limits them to nighttime, which suits groups who want to focus on the story or are new to the game. treeRegrowMode regrows a share of chopped trees while you sleep, allowBuildingDestruction toggles whether structures can be torn down, and allowCheats decides whether players may open the built-in debug console.
realisticPlayerDamage sharply increases the damage players deal to each other; keep it off unless you want PvP to matter. The port lines (serverSteamPort, serverGamePort and serverQueryPort) can stay as they are as long as they match the values assigned in your panel.
The server writes the world to the slot chosen with the slot setting, and there are five of them, numbered 1 to 5. When initType is New, the server starts fresh on every boot; when it is Continue, it loads the save in the selected slot. The practical approach is to create the world with New on the first launch, then switch the line to Continue once a save exists.
serverAutoSaveInterval sets the autosave interval in minutes, with 15 as the minimum and 30 as the default. An admin can also type /save in chat for an instant save. Be careful: passing a slot number to /save can overwrite whatever is already stored in that slot.
For player progress to be saved, serverSteamAccount needs a Steam game server token created for The Forest's app ID, 242760. Panel backups and automatic backups add a separate safety layer on top, so take one before any major settings change.
The Forest server is lightweight, and because player counts stay at co-op scale, the Bronze plan with 4 GB is enough for a group using the default 8-player capacity. What actually drives memory is world size: hundreds of wall pieces, dozens of traps and sprawling camps all grow the save.
For long-running, build-heavy worlds, Silver 6GB or Gold 8GB leaves comfortable headroom during saves. Platinum and above are more than this game needs; a single The Forest server simply cannot use that much memory.
On the CPU side, the server simulates the world at the rate set by targetFpsActive. The strong single-thread performance of the Ryzen 9 9950X keeps the server from bogging down when a cannibal raid hits while several players are building at once. Keeping targetFpsIdle low avoids wasting resources when nobody is connected.
The simplest route is the in-game server list. Players open the join screen from the Multiplayer menu, find the name you set in serverName among the dedicated servers and enter the password if there is one. Whoever will act as admin also types the admin password while joining, which unlocks the chat commands for them.
If the server does not show up in the list, or your friends are tired of searching every time, Steam's server favorites help. In Steam, open the Servers window from the View menu, go to the Favorites tab and add a server using the IP address with the query port (27016 by default); the game port will not work in this list.
For players in Türkiye, the İstanbul location keeps latency low, which helps hits and building placement register at the same moment for everyone during a cannibal attack.
Bronze 4GB is enough for a co-op group of up to 8. If you are planning enormous building projects, Silver 6GB gives extra headroom.
After payment, The Forest Dedicated Server installs by itself and your server appears at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net with a console and file manager.
On Steam's game server account management page, create a token for app ID 242760 and paste it into the serverSteamAccount line of config.cfg.
Fill in serverName, serverPassword, serverPasswordAdmin and difficulty, and switch on rules such as veganMode or treeRegrowMode if they suit your group.
Use initType New on the first boot to create the world. Once the first save exists, change it to Continue so every restart resumes from the same slot.
Players find the server in the dedicated list or add IP:27016 to their Steam favorites, then enter the password. The camp now belongs to everyone, with no waiting for a host.
