Why TheCrewHost for Romestead?

Features chosen for Romestead's dedicated server application and its eight-player co-op design.

Full control via config.json

Edit AutoStartWorldName, AutoCreateWorldSize, AutoCreateWorldSeed, Password, MaxPlayers and EnableCheats in the panel's file manager or over SFTP.

Sized for world generation

The first world generation needs far more memory than normal play. Our plan recommendations account for that peak, so your server does not stall on its first start.

New worlds from seed and size

AutoCreateWorldSeed and AutoCreateWorldSize decide how a world is generated. Give the world a new name and start over on a different map.

Ryzen 9 9950X for undead hordes

Hordes of the walking dead, working villagers and production chains are all simulated on the server. The high-clocked Ryzen 9 9950X keeps big fights smooth.

NVMe SSD and automatic backups

Your settlement, storage and villagers save quickly to Samsung 990 EVO Plus NVMe drives, and automatic panel backups guard against early access surprises.

Romestead server hosting comes in seven plans from 4 GB to 32 GB, starting at ₺240.00 per month. Beartwigs' survival and settlement game entered early access in May 2026, supports 1 to 8 players and ships a separate dedicated server application installed through SteamCMD. Settings live in config.json: world name, world size from 1 to 10, seed, password, player cap and cheat mode. The one thing to plan for is the first world generation, when memory use can climb to several times the normal footprint, and our plan recommendations are built around that. Behind it sits a Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe SSD storage in İstanbul.

What does a Romestead server give you?

A Romestead server keeps your crew's shared world online 24/7 in this action survival game set after the fall of Rome. You gather resources, haul logs and stones on your back, grow a camp into a working settlement, recruit villagers and farm the land. You fight the walking dead, dive into dungeons and push toward awakening the Roman gods.

The game entered early access on Steam on May 25, 2026 and supports 1 to 8 players. One detail matters for server owners: Romestead scales its difficulty to the number of players in the world. When six more friends join a world two of you started, the enemies toughen up to match.

The real benefit of a dedicated server is continuity. One friend can log in in the evening to plant the fields and another can set up trade routes the next morning, without anyone waiting for the host to be online. With Romestead server hosting, the world stays put while you are offline, and your settlement and villagers are waiting when you return.

Which settings live in config.json?

The Romestead dedicated server keeps its settings in config.json. Open it in the panel's file manager or over SFTP and edit it while the server is stopped. JSON does not tolerate a missing comma or quote, so copying the file before you change it is a good habit.

The core settings: AutoStartWorldName is the world the server loads at startup. With AutoCreateAndLoadWorld enabled, the server creates a new world if none exists under that name. AutoCreateWorldSize sets the world's size from 1 to 10, and AutoCreateWorldSeed sets the seed the map is generated from. Password is the join password, MaxPlayers the player cap from 1 to 8, and Port the port the server listens on. EnableCheats turns cheat commands on.

World size and seed only apply when a new world is created; they do not resize an existing one. To start over on a different map, set a new world name, seed and size, then restart. The old world remains in its folder.

How much RAM does a Romestead server need?

Romestead has two distinct memory needs: world generation and normal running. Server operators report that memory use can reach 6 to 8 GB while the first world is generated, while the server runs at roughly 2 to 3 GB once the world exists. Restarting once after generation frees the memory that was allocated during that process and never handed back.

That is why we recommend Gold 8GB, which handles the first world generation comfortably. For a full crew of eight and large world sizes, it is the most balanced choice. Silver 6GB can work for small world sizes and small groups but may run tight during generation. We do not recommend Bronze 4GB for the first world generation.

As worlds and settlements grow, Platinum 10GB adds headroom. Since Romestead supports at most 8 players, Diamond 12GB, Emerald 16GB and Xtreme 32GB are more than this game needs; extra RAM does not raise the player cap.

How do players connect, and how do you run the server?

Friends join your server from Romestead's multiplayer menu. To connect, they need the server address shown in your panel and the password you set in config.json. Because MaxPlayers tops out at 8, a full server has to wait for someone to log off before a new player can get in.

Since difficulty scales with player count, it pays to think about who you share the server with. A crew that usually plays with 3 or 4 people will notice enemies getting noticeably tougher on nights when all 8 show up.

On the admin side, EnableCheats lets server owners experiment with cheat commands; on a persistent shared world, keeping it off preserves the meaning of progress. Our İstanbul location gives players in Türkiye low latency, and friends joining from Europe and the Middle East generally get solid connections too.

Backups and early access updates

Romestead is in early access, and the developer ships regular patches, new biomes and dungeon updates. After each one, the server has to match the version of players' clients, or connections fail.

The panel takes automatic backups of your server files, and your world files are part of them. Before a major update, or before changing the size or seed to build a new world, a manual backup from the panel is the easiest way to protect a settlement you have spent weeks growing. You can also download the files over SFTP and keep a separate copy yourself.

If the server will not start after an update, look at config.json first; the new version may have added a setting, or the formatting may have broken. If the problem persists, our support team is there to help.

How to Set Up a Romestead Server

  1. 1

    Start with Gold 8GB

Gold 8GB comfortably handles the memory peak of the first world generation and is the most balanced start for crews of eight and large worlds.

  2. 2

    Wait for the automatic install

After payment, the Romestead dedicated server files install automatically through SteamCMD. Log into gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net and open the console.

  3. 3

    Edit config.json

Stop the server, then set the world name, world size, seed, password and player cap. Copy the file first so a JSON typo never breaks your setup.

  4. 4

Generate the world, then restart once

Memory use climbs while the world is generated on first launch. When generation is done, restart the server once to release memory it no longer needs.

  5. 5

Send friends the address and password

Share the server address from your panel and the password; friends join from the multiplayer menu. After the first session, take a backup from the panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people most often ask before renting a Romestead server.

How much does Romestead server hosting cost?
Romestead plans start at ₺240.00 per month (about $6.00), and you can choose from 7 plans. Because of the memory needed for the first world generation, though, we recommend Gold 8GB with 8 GB of RAM for most crews. Each plan includes NVMe SSD storage, automatic backups, unlimited traffic and free DDoS protection.
Why don't you recommend the smallest plan?
Server operators report that memory use can reach 6 to 8 GB while Romestead generates its first world. The server runs at around 2 to 3 GB once the world exists, but Bronze 4GB may not survive that peak. That is why we suggest Gold 8GB as the comfortable start, and Silver 6GB only for small worlds.
How many players can join?
Romestead supports 1 to 8 players, and the MaxPlayers value in config.json is set within that range. A bigger plan does not raise the limit. Since the game scales difficulty to the number of players in the world, expect enemies to hit harder in crowded sessions.
How fast will my server be ready?
Setup starts automatically after payment, and the server files download through SteamCMD. Then edit config.json and start the server; the first launch generates the world, so it takes longer than later ones. Once generation finishes, restart once and you are set.
How do my friends connect?
Friends join your server from Romestead's multiplayer menu. Send them the server address shown in your panel and the Password value from config.json. When all 8 slots are taken, someone has to log off before a new player can get in.
Can I start a new world?
Yes. Give AutoStartWorldName a new name in config.json and set the size and seed with AutoCreateWorldSize and AutoCreateWorldSeed; with AutoCreateAndLoadWorld enabled, the server creates a new world under that name. Your old world files are not deleted. Generating a new world brings the memory peak again, so do it while the server is empty.
Can I install mods?
Romestead is in early access and has no documented server-side mod system. Customization comes from config.json: world size, seed and cheat mode. If the game adds mod support later, you can upload files over SFTP or with the file manager; there is no one-click mod installer.
How are backups handled?
The panel backs up your server files automatically, and your world files are included. Because Romestead is in early access, we recommend a manual backup from the panel before major patches and before experimenting with new worlds. You can also keep your own copy by downloading it over SFTP.
Is DDoS protection included, and can I upgrade?
Yes to both. Every Romestead plan ships with free DDoS protection, and you never have to switch it on. If you started on Silver 6GB and want a bigger world, you can upgrade to Gold 8GB or Platinum 10GB at any time; your world files and config.json settings stay in place.
