The settings, permissions and mod setup you will actually use when running a Necesse server.
Edit values like port, slots, password, pauseWhenEmpty, maxClientLatencySeconds and zipSaves in the server.cfg file inside the cfg folder, right from the panel file manager.
Every Necesse mod is a single .jar file; upload the jar of any Workshop mod you like into the server's mods folder over SFTP and run a modded world.
Assign User, Moderator, Admin and Owner levels with /permissions set, giving kick and save rights to moderators and teleporting or item spawning to admins.
With pauseWhenEmpty on, the world stops when the server is empty, so you decide whether settlements and crops keep advancing while everyone is away.
zipSaves compresses saves by default, NVMe drives write even large worlds quickly, and automatic backups protect the save data on a regular schedule.
The Java-based Necesse server loves high single-thread speed, and the Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory keeps busy settlements and boss fights running smoothly.
For $6.00 a month (₺240.00), the Bronze 4GB plan gets you Necesse server hosting at TheCrewHost: a 24/7 dedicated server on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. It is hosted in İstanbul, so friends connecting from Türkiye and nearby regions move between settlements without lag. You set the player cap, the password and whether the world pauses when the server is empty in server.cfg, and hand out owner, admin and moderator rights through the game's built-in permission system. Upload the .jar mods you pick from the Steam Workshop into the server's mods folder and you have a modded world for your whole group.
Settlements are the heart of progress in Necesse: settlers work the fields, workstations craft, and defenses go up against raids. In a player-hosted world, all of that only runs while the host is playing. A rented Necesse server keeps the world online 24/7, so your friends can log in at any hour to explore, attempt a boss or develop their own settlement.
Necesse, made by Fair Games, ships with official dedicated server support, and the server can run headless in a terminal with the -nogui parameter. That makes it a natural fit for hosting. The official wiki sums up the main advantage of a dedicated server simply: the world is always online and accessible.
The slots value can be set anywhere from 1 to 250, so a server works for anything from a small friend group to a busy community. If you want to play with mods, the .jar files you upload to the server's mods folder give everyone the same content.
Necesse is a relatively light server, and a group of two to ten players in a vanilla world runs comfortably on Bronze 4GB. What drives memory use is less the player count than how many areas are loaded at once: when players spread out to different corners of the map and each builds their own settlement, the server has to keep far more of the world in memory.
For 10 to 20 players or a server running a few mods, Silver 6GB leaves headroom, and for modded communities of 20 to 35 with lots of settlements, Gold 8GB is more comfortable. Public servers climbing past 35 players fit Platinum and Diamond, while large communities above 70 players should look at Emerald 16GB with 6 vCores.
Because the Necesse server runs on Java, high single-thread speed and fast memory make a direct difference in crowded settlements and during raids. World saves stay small, especially with zipSaves on, so the NVMe allocation starting at 50 GB is more than enough for saves and a long backup history.
Necesse server settings live in server.cfg inside the cfg directory of the Necesse data folder. port sets the listening port, slots the player cap and password the join password. With pauseWhenEmpty on, the world pauses when nobody is online. maxClientLatencySeconds decides when an unresponsive player is dropped, zipSaves controls save compression, logging toggles session logs and language sets the server language.
Many of the same options can be passed as launch parameters too. -world picks the world to load, -slots sets the cap, -password the password, -motd the message of the day, and -owner names the player who receives owner rights on connect. -ignoreseasons turns off seasonal content.
The panel file manager and SFTP both work for editing it. For changes to load cleanly, stop the server first, save the file and start it again. If you are not sure whether a setting is coming from a launch parameter or from server.cfg, our support team can help you sort it out.
Necesse has four permission levels. User covers basics like /help, /playtime and /whisper. Moderator adds /players, /kick and /save. Admin can run world-changing commands such as /time, /give and /tp. Owner controls the server itself with /stop, /password, /permissions and /regen. To assign a level, use /permissions set <name> <level>, and the -owner launch parameter is handy for defining the owner from the start.
Mods are packaged as a single .jar file, and using one on the server is as simple as uploading that jar to the server's mods folder. The clientside setting in the mod's mod.info decides whether players can connect without the mod installed; for most content mods, players need the same mod.
Saves live in the data folder and are protected by TheCrewHost's automatic backups. Running /save with moderator rights and then taking a manual backup from the panel before adding a new mod or updating the game reduces the risk of a broken world to almost nothing.
Players open Multiplayer from Necesse's main menu and enter the server's IP address and port. The official default port is UDP 14159, but on TheCrewHost the IP and port assigned to your server in the panel are what apply, so send your friends both together. If you set a password, it is requested when they connect.
If you are running a modded server, tell players ahead of time which mods you use. Subscribing to the same mods on the Workshop prevents mismatch errors on join. When the game updates, the server and players must be on the same version, and after an update it is worth checking that your mods are compatible with the new build.
Most connection problems come down to a wrong port, an outdated version or a missing mod. Confirming in the console that the server finished starting and is listening on the right port narrows things down within minutes.
Bronze 4GB covers a vanilla world for two to ten players; start on Silver or Gold if you plan a modded community with many settlements.
Once payment is confirmed, the Necesse server installs automatically and appears in the control panel at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net, ready to start.
Stop the server, open server.cfg in the cfg folder and set slots, password and pauseWhenEmpty to suit your community.
Upload the .jar files of the mods you want into the server's mods folder over SFTP, and ask players to install the same mods.
Start the server and check the console, give yourself owner rights, then use /permissions set to make trusted players moderators or admins.
Share the IP and port shown in the panel; players enter them in the Multiplayer menu and connect straight to your server.
