Why TheCrewHost for VanillaCord?

What it takes to run an untouched vanilla world inside a network: correct forwarding, enough resources for the world, and backups you can trust.

Three forwarding modes

Set the forwarding line in vanillacord.txt to bungeecord, bungeeguard or velocity, then put the matching key on the seecret line; that is the whole handshake setup.

Mojang's own server jar

VanillaCord patches only the login path of the official vanilla server, leaving gameplay code alone, so redstone timings, spawning rules and farm rates match vanilla.

Customize with datapacks

Vanilla has no plugin API, so customization comes from datapacks: upload them to the world's datapacks folder via SFTP or the file manager and enable them with /reload.

Strong single-thread CPU

The vanilla game loop leans on one core, and the Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed helps keep tick times down around busy farms and large redstone builds.

Protected behind the proxy

Players arrive through your proxy while the vanilla server stays in the background as a backend; free DDoS protection and your forwarding secret guard that entrance together.

World backups on NVMe

One mistake can erase hours of technical work, so automatic backups plus manual panel snapshots let you keep the world safe before every version upgrade.

VanillaCord server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at $6.00 (₺240.00) per month, and what you get is not a proxy but a pure vanilla Minecraft server that can sit behind one. VanillaCord downloads Mojang's official server jar and patches the login flow so your Velocity or BungeeCord proxy can forward real UUIDs and IP addresses using BungeeCord, BungeeGuard or Velocity forwarding. It is built for technical communities that want farms and redstone to behave exactly as they do in vanilla. Your world runs on high single-core Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in İstanbul, stored on NVMe and backed up automatically.

What is VanillaCord, and why isn't it a proxy?

VanillaCord is a patching tool, maintained by ME1312, that adds IP forwarding support to vanilla Minecraft servers. The name can mislead: VanillaCord is not a proxy itself, it prepares the backend server that sits behind one. You give it a version, it downloads Mojang's official server jar for that version, patches the login process, and writes a new jar named after the version into its out folder.

Why is that needed? An unmodified vanilla server cannot understand the real identity of a player coming through Velocity or BungeeCord; it sees everyone as an offline player arriving from the proxy's address. VanillaCord lets it read the forwarded data, so the whitelist, operator permissions and player data stay tied to the correct UUID.

The project README lists versions from 1.7 to 1.21, plus snapshots and pre-releases. Version 2.0, released in March 2024, was a full rewrite on bridge-asm prompted by internal changes in 1.20. If you plan to run a newer Minecraft release than that list covers, test it on a separate server first.

Why choose a pure vanilla backend over Paper?

Paper is fast and runs plugins, but it changes some vanilla behavior for performance and safety. It disables piston-based TNT, carpet and rail duplication by default, for example, and certain farm designs or redstone timings can produce different results. For technical players who expect wiki farm designs to work exactly as documented, those differences are frustrating.

VanillaCord gives those communities a place inside a network. Your lobby and minigames can keep running on Paper with all their plugins, while the survival world stays pure vanilla and players switch between them with /server.

The trade-offs are real. Vanilla has no plugin API, so there are no permission, economy or land-claim plugins; customization is limited to datapacks, functions and command blocks. Vanilla also lacks Paper's optimizations, so it uses more CPU and RAM for the same player count. When you pick a plan, size a VanillaCord server like a real survival server, not like a proxy.

How do you configure forwarding in vanillacord.txt?

The first time the patched server starts, it creates vanillacord.txt in its working directory. Two lines matter: forwarding and seecret. It looks like a typo, but the key really is spelled seecret, and you can repeat that line if you need more than one key.

forwarding defaults to bungeecord. That mode reads the ip_forward data sent by BungeeCord and Waterfall but carries no signature, so anyone who reaches the backend port directly could try to log in under a fake identity. The bungeeguard mode wraps the same format in a token; copy the token from the proxy's BungeeGuard config onto the seecret line.

On a Velocity network, the cleanest option is the velocity mode. Paste the key from Velocity's forwarding.secret file onto the seecret line and set player-info-forwarding-mode to modern in velocity.toml. Velocity's modern forwarding works on 1.13 and newer; for an older vanilla version, use Velocity's bungeeguard mode instead.

After editing the file, restart the server, join through the proxy, and confirm the player data file was created under the correct UUID.

How much RAM does a VanillaCord server need?

Unlike the other software in this category, VanillaCord actually runs a world, so its memory needs resemble a vanilla survival server rather than a proxy. What drives usage is player count, the view-distance and simulation-distance settings, how many chunks stay loaded, and how dense your farms are.

Bronze 4 GB is fine for a small group of friends. Around ten active players with a few automatic farms sit more comfortably on Silver or Gold. If technical players keep mob farms, raid farms and sprawling redstone permanently loaded, Platinum and above leave room for both world data and Java's garbage collector.

There is also a ceiling to understand: the vanilla game loop runs on a single core. Past a certain point, extra RAM does not shorten tick times. At that stage, lowering simulation-distance, clearing unnecessary chunk loaders and keeping entity counts in check make a bigger difference. That is where the Ryzen 9 9950X's strong single-core performance earns its keep.

Day-to-day administration behind the proxy

Most administration happens through familiar vanilla files. In server.properties you tune view-distance, simulation-distance, difficulty and max-players. Permissions come from ops.json and operator levels, access from whitelist.json; with enforce-whitelist on, anyone not on the list is kicked when the whitelist reloads. Because forwarding works, those files match each player's real UUID.

Upgrading versions takes a little more care than on Paper. For a new Minecraft release, you run VanillaCord again with that version number to produce a fresh patched jar. Take a manual world backup first and, ideally, trial the copy on a separate server, because once a world opens on a newer version there is no clean way back. Also make sure your proxy already supports the target version.

Datapacks go into the datapacks folder inside the world; /datapack list shows what is loaded, and /reload refreshes them. With the panel's web console, you can run all of these commands without joining the game.

How to Set Up a VanillaCord Server

  1. 1

Pick a plan by players and farm load

VanillaCord runs a real world: Bronze 4 GB suits a small group, while an active world full of technical farms points to Gold or higher.

  2. 2

    Settle on the Minecraft version

Choose a vanilla version that your proxy and players support; the README covers 1.7 through 1.21, so test anything newer before going live.

  3. 3

Set the forwarding mode in vanillacord.txt

For Velocity, write forwarding = velocity and paste the forwarding.secret key onto the seecret line; on BungeeCord networks, use bungeeguard mode with its token.

  4. 4

Register the server on your proxy

Add the IP:port from the panel under a short name in velocity.toml's servers block or config.yml's servers list, then reload the proxy.

  5. 5

    Configure datapacks, whitelist and ops

Upload datapacks to the world's datapacks folder, manage access with whitelist.json and ops.json, and balance view-distance against simulation-distance in server.properties.

  6. 6

Join through the proxy and verify

Players only ever use the proxy address; switch to the vanilla world with /server, confirm skins and UUIDs come through correctly, then announce it to the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions before connecting a pure vanilla server to a Minecraft network with VanillaCord.

What does VanillaCord server hosting cost per month?
Prices start at $6.00 per month (₺240.00) and span 7 tiers. The more important point is how to choose: VanillaCord runs an actual vanilla world rather than a proxy, so size it by players and farms the way you would a survival server. The entry plan suits a small group, while active technical worlds are happier on Gold and above.
How much RAM should my plan have?
The 4 GB Bronze plan is enough for a handful of players. Around ten active players with automatic farms fit Silver or Gold, and technical worlds full of permanently loaded mob and raid farms do better on Platinum or above. Vanilla uses more resources than Paper for the same player count, so starting one tier higher is reasonable.
Can I install plugins on a VanillaCord server?
No. VanillaCord patches Mojang's vanilla server only for forwarding and does not add a Bukkit or Paper plugin API. Customize with datapacks, functions and command blocks instead. Features that need plugins, such as permissions, economy or a lobby, belong on the Paper servers in your network or on the proxy.
Which Minecraft versions does VanillaCord support?
The README lists 1.7 through 1.21, along with snapshots and pre-releases, and version 2.0 in March 2024 was rewritten to handle the 1.20 changes. Test anything newer on a separate server before relying on it. Keep in mind that Velocity's modern forwarding only works with vanilla 1.13 and newer.
How soon is my server ready?
Provisioning is automatic the moment payment is confirmed, and the server is waiting in gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net with no ticket involved. Its first start writes vanillacord.txt and server.properties. Set the forwarding mode and key, add the server to your proxy's list, and the network can begin routing players into the vanilla world.
How do players reach the VanillaCord server?
Players do not connect to the vanilla server directly; they join your network's proxy address. After you add this server to the proxy's servers list, they move to the vanilla world with /server, a menu plugin or a forced-host subdomain, so the backend address never needs to be public.
Should I use bungeecord mode or velocity mode?
If you run Velocity and your version is 1.13 or newer, choose velocity mode; it is signed with a key and is the most secure option. On BungeeCord or Waterfall networks, bungeeguard mode is clearly safer than plain bungeecord thanks to its token. Use plain bungeecord only if you are certain nothing but the proxy can reach the backend port.
How is my world backed up?
Your world is backed up automatically, and you can snapshot or restore it by hand from the panel as often as you like. The critical moment on vanilla is a version upgrade: once a world opens on a newer release there is no clean way back, so take a manual backup right before. You can also pull the world folder down over SFTP.
Does DDoS protection apply to this server too?
Yes, free DDoS protection is standard on every plan, including your VanillaCord backend. Attackers usually aim at the proxy first since that is where players connect, but the backend has its own IP address and the same protection sits in front of it. The forwarding key, meanwhile, blocks forged logins at the application level.
Can I upgrade as my world grows?
Absolutely, and the switch can happen at any time. On vanilla servers the need tends to show up as new farms go in, as the explored area expands, or as lag warnings appear in the console on busy evenings. Checking simulation-distance and entity counts before adding RAM tells you whether memory is really the bottleneck.
