Why TheCrewHost for MohistMC?

The environment we built for Mohist, which keeps Forge mods and Bukkit plugins under one roof.

Forge mods + Bukkit plugins

Mohist loads Forge mods from the mods folder and Bukkit or Spigot plugins from the plugins folder. It's the shortcut to adding LuckPerms, economy or announcement plugins to your modpack.

Fine-tuning with mohist.yml

Mohist's own settings live in mohist-config/mohist.yml. Together with bukkit.yml and spigot.yml, that's where you adjust hybrid behavior before restarting the server.

A fast CPU for heavy 1.20.1 packs

Forge mods and Bukkit event listeners share the same main thread. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock speed keeps tick time in check on crowded packs.

Clear error trails in the console

Mohist prints every plugin and mod it loads to the console. When a plugin clashes with mod content, you spot the error line right away in the live console and logs folder.

Backups for a pinned build

On EOL software, preserving the build that works matters. Automatic and manual backups give you a way back, with your server files stored on NVMe SSD.

Free DDoS protection

DDoS protection and unmetered traffic come with every Mohist plan at no extra charge, so a public plugin server doesn't need a separate security package.

Rent a MohistMC server and you get Mohist, which lets you add Bukkit and Spigot plugins to a Forge modpack; MohistMC server hosting starts at ₺345.00 per month (about $8.63), with 6 tiers from 6 GB to 32 GB of RAM. Built by the MohistMC team, Mohist became a common choice for plugin-enabled Forge modpack servers on 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.20.1. The team has since marked Mohist as end-of-life (EOL) and moved its focus to Youer, a NeoForge-based project for 1.21.1. Your server runs in Istanbul on an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory and NVMe SSD storage, and you manage the mods and plugins folders over SFTP.

What is MohistMC, and which versions is Mohist used on?

MohistMC is the name of a team that builds hybrid server software, and its best-known product is Mohist. Mohist adds the Bukkit and Spigot APIs on top of Minecraft Forge, so Forge mods and Bukkit plugins run together on one server. It found a wide audience among plugin-enabled modpack servers on 1.12.2 and 1.16.5, and later on 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.20.1.

Each Mohist version needs a different Java: according to MohistMC's own docs, Java 8 is recommended for 1.12.2, Java 11 for 1.16.5, and Java 17 for 1.18.2 and later. The wrong Java version is one of the most common causes of confusing startup errors.

Who should choose Mohist? Communities playing a Forge modpack on 1.20.1 or older that want the plugin ecosystem on top. On 1.20.1 Forge packs, Arclight is an alternative worth comparing. For a NeoForge 1.21.1 pack, Magma or Arclight's NeoForge build fits better, and if you only want mods, a plain Forge Enhanced server is the simpler route.

What does Mohist being EOL mean for you?

MohistMC has marked Mohist as EOL (end-of-life), which means no new features or regular bug fixes are expected. The existing builds remain downloadable, and many stable 1.20.1 and 1.12.2 servers keep running on them. The team has shifted its energy to Youer, a NeoForge-based project that targets Bukkit and Spigot plugins on 1.21.1.

In practice this has three consequences. First, once you find a Mohist build that works, pin it: stay on the one that runs cleanly instead of trying every new build. Second, if a new plugin or mod release causes trouble on Mohist, plan to stay on the compatible older version rather than wait for a fix. Third, if you're starting a new community from scratch and aiming for 1.21.1, an actively developed hybrid is the healthier long-term bet.

None of this makes Mohist unusable. It simply shifts a bit more of the maintenance responsibility onto you, which is why regular backups matter even more on Mohist servers.

How much RAM does a Mohist server need?

We recommend at least 6 GB for Mohist, since Forge's mod registries and the Bukkit side's plugin data live in the same heap. 1.12.2-era packs with 50–80 mods plus a few plugins give 2–6 players a comfortable time on Silver 6GB. For 1.20.1 packs with 100–150 mods and 10–20 plugins, 8–10 GB feels much better.

If you're pairing big 1.20.1 packs of 200+ mods with economy, protection and quest plugins, start at 12 GB. Above 15 players Emerald 16GB is the safer pick, and above 25 players Xtreme 32GB; the extra vCores on those tiers keep garbage collection and chunk generation off the main thread.

When estimating memory, add roughly one tier to what a plain Forge server would need for the same pack. If tick time climbs, take a spark profile first; the report tells you whether time is going into a mod or into a plugin's event listener.

How do you manage plugin and mod compatibility on Mohist?

Mohist's settings are spread over three files: bukkit.yml and spigot.yml handle the Bukkit side, while mohist-config/mohist.yml controls behavior specific to the hybrid layer. Some options in mohist.yml can affect gameplay directly, so don't touch them without knowing what they do, and copy the file before every change.

Most compatibility problems are predictable. Plugins with version-specific NMS code, plugins that scan every block and item type, and protection plugins that don't account for the fake players mod machines use cause trouble most often. Mods that overhaul inventories, the world or entities can also make Bukkit events fire at unexpected moments.

Build a safe routine: boot cleanly with mods only, then add plugins one by one, restarting and reading the console after each. Don't run a mod and a plugin that do the same job; handle land claims with either a claim mod or a plugin, for example, never both.

How do players join a Mohist server, and how are permissions set up?

Players join a Mohist server the way they'd join any Forge server: their client needs the same Minecraft version, the same Forge version and the same mods as the server. Plugins run server-side, so players don't install any. After setting up the modpack with the CurseForge app or Prism Launcher, they go to Multiplayer, Add Server, and enter the IP:port from your panel.

For permissions you get the strength of the Bukkit ecosystem. LuckPerms handles ranks, groups and plugin permissions, while the vanilla op and whitelist commands keep working. Remember that most mod commands check the op level rather than a permissions system, so think about which mod commands your moderators will reach before giving them op.

If you want the server open only to your community, enable the whitelist. And if the port isn't 25565, mention in your announcement that players need to add it after a colon.

How to Set Up a MohistMC Server

  1. 1

    Identify your pack's Mohist version

Note the Minecraft and Forge versions your pack uses, and make sure Mohist has a build for that version and your plugins support it too.

  2. 2

Choose a plan; setup runs automatically

Pick a tier based on your mod and plugin load. After payment is confirmed, your Mohist server installs itself and becomes reachable at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.

  3. 3

Upload mods and boot without plugins

Transfer the mods and config folders from the server pack over SFTP and start the server without plugins. Move on once you see a clean boot in the console.

  4. 4

    Add plugins individually

Put plugins into the plugins folder one at a time, restarting and reading the console after each. That way you catch the problematic one immediately.

  5. 5

    Tune mohist.yml and permissions

Review the mohist-config/mohist.yml settings if needed, set up ranks with LuckPerms, and turn on the whitelist to suit your community.

  6. 6

Back up the working build and invite players

While everything runs cleanly, take a manual backup from the panel, then share the IP:port from the panel with your players.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people want to know about MohistMC and Mohist before launching a server.

How much does MohistMC server hosting cost?
Mohist servers start at ₺345.00 per month (about $8.63), and RAM climbs to 32 GB across 6 tiers. The CPU is a Ryzen 9 9950X on every tier, with DDR5 memory and NVMe SSD storage, and DDoS protection plus automatic backups are included in the price. Pick your tier by mod and plugin load.
Which plan suits Mohist?
Silver 6GB is enough for 1.12.2-era packs with 50–80 mods and a few plugins. 1.20.1 packs with 100–150 mods run comfortably on Gold 8GB or Platinum 10GB. If you're combining 200+ mod packs with a big plugin list, start at Diamond 12GB, and consider Emerald 16GB beyond 15 players.
Should I keep using Mohist now that it's EOL?
If you already have a stable 1.20.1 or 1.12.2 server, continuing is reasonable; the builds are still downloadable and still run. Since no new bug fixes are coming, pin the build that works and back up regularly. For a brand-new project targeting 1.21.1, an actively developed NeoForge hybrid is the healthier choice.
Do Paper plugins work on Mohist?
Mohist is built around the Bukkit and Spigot APIs, and most Spigot-compatible plugins work. Plugins tightly bound to Paper-specific APIs may run into problems. If a plugin page says Paper is required, look for a Spigot-compatible alternative, and test every plugin only after taking a backup.
How do players join a Mohist server?
Each player sets up the server's exact modpack on the matching Forge version, and the plugin side asks nothing of them. After installing the pack with the CurseForge app or Prism Launcher, they go to Multiplayer, Add Server, and enter the IP:port from your panel, adding the port if it isn't 25565.
What does the mohist.yml file do?
mohist.yml, in the mohist-config folder, is the main config file for settings specific to Mohist's hybrid layer. Some options can affect gameplay directly, so learn what an option does before changing it and keep a copy of the file. The Bukkit side is managed through bukkit.yml and spigot.yml.
How long does setup take?
Once your payment is confirmed, setup starts on its own and your Mohist server is waiting in the panel. On the first boot, Forge libraries, mod registries and the Bukkit side all get prepared, so that start takes longer than later ones; a few minutes on a big pack is normal.
How do I back up my Mohist server?
Automatic backups happen in the background, and you can create a manual one from the panel whenever you want. Because you're on EOL software, a manual backup before adding a plugin or switching builds is especially important. You can also download the plugins and world folders over SFTP and keep them on your computer.
Do I pay extra for DDoS protection?
No. DDoS protection is free and on by default across all Mohist plans, and traffic is unmetered. If you run a public community server with plugins, that protection is active in the background, while measures like a whitelist or a login plugin add extra security.
Can I scale up my Mohist plan later?
Yes, you can step up to a higher tier at any moment. If adding mods and plugins brings memory warnings, long garbage-collection pauses or TPS drops to the console, it's time for more RAM. If you're undecided, our 24/7 support team can look at your mod and plugin list and point you the right way.
