What we provide on the hardware and admin side for Magma, which runs mods and plugins in one process.
Magma runs the mod loader and the Bukkit/Spigot API in the same process, so mods in the mods folder and plugins in the plugins folder share a single world.
Every block break or interaction fires events on both the mod side and the plugin side. The Ryzen 9 9950X's single-core speed keeps that extra work from bloating tick times.
Is it a plugin or a mod? The live console and logs folder show which plugin Magma was loading when it failed, and you can pull the log files over SFTP for a closer look.
Hybrid worlds pile up both mod data and plugin data. Samsung 990 EVO Plus NVMe storage, with disk space starting at 60 GB, handles that growth comfortably.
Magma builds are tied to a specific mod loader version. A backup taken before moving to a new build or plugin version makes rolling back simple if you need to.
Public plugin servers get hit by attacks more often, so free DDoS protection and unmetered traffic come standard with every Magma plan.
Magma server hosting brings you a long-standing hybrid that pairs Forge or NeoForge mods with Bukkit plugins, from ₺345.00 a month (about $8.63) across 6 tiers of 6 GB to 32 GB RAM. For a long time Magma powered plugin-enabled 1.12.2 Forge modpack servers, and its current release is built on NeoForge and Spigot for Minecraft 1.21.1. Mods go in the mods folder, plugins in the plugins folder, and players only need the modpack. Your Magma server runs in our Istanbul datacenter on a Ryzen 9 9950X with DDR5 memory, on NVMe SSD storage.
Magma is a hybrid project that inherited the idea of running Forge mods and Bukkit plugins on one server from the Cauldron line of the 1.7.10 era. Its first big success came on 1.12.2: Magma 1.12.2, which merged Forge with a Spigot/Paper base, became one of the standard cores for plugin-enabled modpack servers. Versions for 1.16.5 and 1.18.2 followed, and the community-run Magma Maintained forks stretched as far as 1.19.3 and 1.20.1.
Magma's own 1.20.1 version was never officially finished, and part of the old team went on to start a separate project called Ketting. Today's Magma sits on a new foundation: it targets Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge and Spigot and requires Java 21.
That history has a practical consequence: the Magma build you run decides whether your mods are Forge or NeoForge. If you're carrying over a Magma server from the 1.12.2 or 1.16.5 days, you use Forge mods; if you're starting fresh on 1.21.1, you use NeoForge mods. Pin down which build you're targeting before you set anything up.
All three projects combine mods with Bukkit plugins, but each shines in a different spot. Magma is an established name in plugin-enabled modpack servers going back to 1.12.2, and its current release pairs NeoForge 1.21.1 with Spigot. If your community already runs Magma, or you want a NeoForge 1.21.1 pack on a familiar Spigot base, Magma is a natural pick.
Arclight injects its Bukkit layer through Mixin and also ships a Fabric build, so if you play a Fabric pack rather than a NeoForge one, look at Arclight. MohistMC's Mohist project is especially common on 1.20.1 Forge packs, but it's now marked end-of-life and the team has moved on to the NeoForge-based Youer.
Whichever hybrid you choose, one thing stays true: some plugins won't recognize mod content, and some mods fire Bukkit events in unexpected ways. If you only want mods, a plain Forge or NeoForge server runs with fewer surprises, and if you only want plugins, so does Paper.
The Magma project suggests at least 4 GB of RAM on its site, but that figure is for booting an empty server. With a real modpack and plugin list we recommend starting at 6 GB, which is why our plans begin with Silver 6GB. A group of 2–5 players with 40–70 mods and a few admin plugins is comfortable on Silver.
NeoForge packs of 100–150 mods and setups with around 15 plugins do better on 8–10 GB. If you're combining big 1.21.1 packs with economy, protection and quest plugins, you'll want 12 GB or more. For communities above 15 players, Emerald 16GB's 6 vCores keep background work like garbage collection away from the main tick.
The biggest memory driver is the number of loaded chunks. Add chunk loader mods, players scattered across dimensions and the data that region protection plugins hold, and it's natural for a hybrid to need more memory than a plain server running the same pack.
The most common problem on Magma is plugins written without a modded world in mind. A plugin that loops through every block and item type, or expects only vanilla materials, can throw errors when it meets content added by mods. Plugins that use version-specific NMS code are the most fragile group on any hybrid.
Because current Magma is Spigot-based, plugins that need Paper-specific APIs won't run. When choosing plugins, go for Spigot-compatible releases and, where possible, look for notes that the plugin has been tested on hybrid servers.
Avoid installing a mod and a plugin that do the same job. Handle land protection with either a mod like FTB Chunks or a claim plugin, not both, because running the two leads to permission conflicts. Add each new plugin on its own, restart, read the console and test in-game. If something breaks, the backup you took from the panel gets you back to where you were.
On Magma, settings are split between two worlds. Vanilla settings live in server.properties, the Bukkit side is configured in bukkit.yml and spigot.yml, each plugin keeps its settings in its own directory under plugins, and mods keep theirs in the config folder. You reach all of them through the file manager or SFTP.
For permissions, a plugin like LuckPerms manages plugin commands, while basics such as whitelist and op work just as they do on vanilla. When granting moderators access, keep in mind that mod commands mostly check the op level.
Players install an exact copy of the server's modpack on the same loader version: NeoForge for current Magma, Forge for the older Forge-based builds. Plugins require nothing on the client. They connect by adding a server entry under Multiplayer that points to the IP:port in your panel, with the port included whenever it isn't 25565.
Choose between current NeoForge 1.21.1-based Magma and an older Forge build, then pick your mods and plugins to match that version.
Choose the tier that fits your mod and plugin load. Once payment is confirmed, your Magma server installs automatically and is ready to manage at gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net.
Upload mods to the mods folder over SFTP and start the server before adding any plugins. A clean boot in the console makes later problems much easier to pin down.
Place each plugin in the plugins folder individually, restart and check the console. If a plugin throws errors, remove it and look for an alternative.
Adjust the core Bukkit settings, set up ranks with LuckPerms, and use the whitelist to decide who gets access to the server.
Players install the same modpack and connect using the IP:port from the panel. They don't need to install anything extra for plugins.
