What you need to move an older TShock install onto new hardware without breaking it.
TShock 5 required every plugin to be rebuilt for .NET 6. Plugins that were never updated still load from ServerPlugins on a TShock 4 server built for them.
Accounts, groups, regions and bans live in the database inside the tshock folder. Upload that folder over SFTP and your community's records come back intact.
A legacy install keeps your world on the older Terraria release you choose, so game updates cannot break an adventure map or a server balanced around old rules.
Moving a server that has run on the same aging box for years onto Ryzen 9 9950X and NVMe SSD shortens startup and world saves without touching the software.
Take a full copy from the panel before you experiment with modern TShock. If you need to go back, the world and database are right where you left them.

TShock legacy server hosting at TheCrewHost starts at ₺240.00 ($6.00) per month and is meant for the pre-version-5 TShock 4.x line: the older TerrariaServer.exe build that runs on Mono. That series targets Terraria 1.4.3.6 and earlier, and its final release was TShock 4.5.18 for 1.4.3.6. If you rely on a plugin that never made it to TShock 5, or you want to freeze your community's world on a specific version, this is the setup for you. The server runs 24/7 on Ryzen 9 9950X hardware in İstanbul, and you bring over your tshock folder, SQLite database and ServerPlugins over SFTP.
TShock legacy refers to the 4.x series that came before TShock 5. With version 5 the project moved to OTAPI 3 and .NET 6, dropped the Mono requirement, and switched its executable from TerrariaServer.exe to TShock.Server. That jump came at a cost: every existing plugin had to be updated for the new version, and some never were.
The legacy option exists for communities caught in that gap. If an economy or minigame plugin you have used for years only runs on TShock 4, if your server rules are built around it, or if you host an adventure map designed for a specific Terraria release, a legacy server keeps everything alive.
If you are starting fresh, you do not need legacy. Current TShock supports newer Terraria releases and still receives fixes. Treat legacy as a deliberate choice for existing setups that must stay on an older version.
The TShock 4 series was released for Terraria versions before 1.4.4, reaching up to 1.4.3.6. Its final release was TShock 4.5.18, published in August 2022 for 1.4.3.6. Terraria 1.4.4 and newer need TShock 5 or later, which a legacy install cannot provide.
There is one practical catch to plan around: every player's Terraria client must match the server's version exactly. Steam keeps Terraria updated to the latest release, so connecting to a server on an older version takes extra effort on the player side. Before you commit to a legacy server, make sure your community can actually run that version, or nobody will get in.
Type version in the console to confirm what your server is running. If you need a particular TShock 4 release, message support before setup so you start on the right one.
The tshock folder is the heart of an old TShock server. It holds the default SQLite database with accounts, groups, permissions, regions and bans, along with the JSON configuration files. Copy that folder across unchanged and your community's records come with it.
Keep the order simple. Shut down the old server and confirm the world saved its final state. Then upload the world file (.wld), the whole tshock folder and the .dll files from ServerPlugins over SFTP. Some plugins write their own settings into the tshock folder, which is why moving it as one piece is safer than cherry-picking files.
If your old install used MySQL, the connection details are in the configuration file, and you will need to plan separately how the server reaches that database. Watch the console on first launch; it names any plugin that fails to load or any dependency that is missing.
By today's standards, older Terraria releases and TShock 4 are light. For a community of up to about 20 players running a few plugins on SQLite, Bronze 4GB is our recommended starting point. The Mono runtime adds a little overhead but nowhere near enough to strain that plan.
If you are moving a busier community server with a long plugin list, Silver 6GB or Gold 8GB leaves comfortable room for event nights and large worlds. Anything above that is usually more than one legacy server will use. The Terraria server handles the world mostly on one core, so extra vCores tend to sit idle.
For servers coming off old hardware, the real gains are CPU clock and disk speed. The Ryzen 9 9950X's high clock reduces stutter during busy moments, and NVMe storage noticeably cuts the wait during world saves and startup.
TShock 4 no longer receives releases, which means no new Terraria content and no new security fixes. Once your plugins have current equivalents, or your players start asking for newer Terraria content, it is time to plan the move.
Three things matter when you do. First, the TShock 5 release notes recommend copying the tshock folder from the old install, so accounts and regions can come with you. Second, you need versions of your plugins built for the new release, because old .dll files will not load. Third, once a Terraria world is opened and saved in a newer version, it cannot be taken back to the older one.
The safest path is to take a full backup of the legacy server and trial the migration on a separate install. If everything works, move the community over; if not, your legacy server and its backup are still exactly where you left them.
Choose legacy if a critical plugin only runs on TShock 4 or your world must stay on an older Terraria version. Otherwise, go with current TShock.
Bronze 4GB suits most legacy servers. If you need a specific TShock 4 or Terraria version, contact support before setup.
Make sure the world saved its final state, then archive the .wld file, the complete tshock folder and every plugin from ServerPlugins.
Once automatic setup finishes, connect with the SFTP details from gamepanel.hostingmerkezi.net and place the world, tshock folder and plugins where they sat before.
Confirm each plugin loads on first launch. Fix any missing dependency or config file the console reports, then join and test your admin rights.
Share the IP and port from your panel along with the exact Terraria version the server runs, since players on a different version cannot connect.
